I recently taken an interest in Tintin (being French, I surprisingly didn't grow up with those stories) and the similarities would not stop piling up ! A young redhead, throwing himself into danger and always being hit on the head; and his little fearless white companion who is always saving his best friend butt... let's say I immediately took a liking to our boy reporter who is just... Cal if he was Belgian.

Chang not only represents a turning point in the politics of the Tintin series, he also represents a sense of chronology in the otherwise floating timeline of the canon. While Tintin almost never discusses his past, Chang is a key part of his personal story in Tintin in Tibet.

I imagine him and Tintin being around the same age, with Chang being a few months younger.

I remember discussing Tintin casting choices with a friend from Germany and remarked how it was odd he often has an English accent in adaptations rather than a Belgian one, and my friend just replied "that's because Tintin gives incredibly strong English boy energy (derogatory)"

Here in the UK there's a lot of weird classism tied into accents. Today accent diversity and representation in broadcasting is actively pursued but in Tintin's time there certainly was a preferred accent to have.
