Reblogging because I am thinking about them again. I need to start writing again
ALEK has the ability to switch between different consciousness- their own singular mind or the collective mind of the mycelium that runs through her body and through everything else, should he choose to connect to it. This comes with amazing capabilities like being able to heal robots by replacing bygone parts with living and learning mycelium to help connect things once again, or being able to locate water accurately from thousands of miles away, and even being able to extract oil. But the trade off is that when Alek enters that state, there’s no telling when the collective consciousness will relinquish control back to the singular mind, and they can sometimes become lost in that state for years. Another trade off is that sometimes the mycelium overruns his own neuro-pathways, so when she comes back to himself, Alek can sometimes have whole chunks of memory missing. To combat this they tattoo everything they feel is significant and contributes to who they are as a person on their body in mirror writing, so they can read it even when she wakes up alone. ROOSTER was designed to be a mobile meteorologist station. He was meant to travel long distances in inclement weather to gather readings and data so that the world could best prepare for natural disasters. He was one of 6 like him. He remembers his siblings very well and wonders about them, though he has trouble remembering much else. He navigates via starlight at night, like a dung beetle. But recently (the last thousand years) he’s been lost and confused. (His inner clock and compass are broken). When he finds the oasis, basically on accident, he meets Alec who immediately starts on repairs. To repay him, Rooster stays near the Oasis and provides protection and assists with running it. Rooster is 20 stories tall, Alek is 8 ft 1
