nero does in fact get all of my uwus every now and then because her desire for praise and approval especially the physical kind stems from her being deprived of love and affection within her family as she was used by her mother as a political pawn and that basic absence of familial love caused her to become a person who can only demand love but not know neither how to ask of it healthily or reciprocate it in a way that takes the feelings of others into consideration. nero may be a bastion of self-confidence to the point of being narcissistic but it’s not because she’s malicious she just has a hard time relating to other people and doesn’t really know what being overbearing means. she does however love them sincerely and truly wishes to express that love as ugly and twisted as it may turn out because she doesn’t want to regret anything and because that ugliness does not make her feelings any less true. 

throughout her life she wrestled with her inner demons to the point where she could be unsightly at times but now in her new life as a servant she embraces the glory and depravity of the love she feels for her master because with hakuno she can be all the things others wouldn’t accept her for or others wouldn’t allow her to be without the patience and understanding to help her become just a little more self-aware and devoted to in a way that actually works . 

in fate/extra she is mostly cold, abrasive, and aloof because she doesn’t know hakuno and she’s also afraid they’ll reject her if they found out their true name. it’s not until nero has fought alongside hakuno enough when they can say “regardless of whether you’re repelled by me i want you to know who i am and what i’ve done because i love you more than you could ever hate me and will forever be faithful to you”. nero when alive could not handle rejection after pouring out her heart and soul into making her people love her to the point of committing a slow and painful suicide so now in death she will accept any and every outcome because she understands that the freedom of the people she loves (LOVES!!) is what matters ultimately because she would not deny others the thing that was denied to her her entire life.  

but hakuno doesn’t reject her because that sincerity, that devotion, that LOVE forged through fire and peril is beautiful!! nero is a beautiful person and hakuno would never toss aside the partner, the companion, who has shared their pain and carried them through their fear and been close to giving her life for their safety. it makes it all the more powerful when nero decides to enter eternal slumber with hakuno in the core of the moon cell at the end of fate/extra because both of them have been through this journey of transformation together and nero does not wish to be anywhere else but at their side because of hakuno’s dazzling blossoming into a person who can not just stand proud as an individual among the senseless carnage but give it meaning in choosing peace and finality rather than continue twice’s cycle of suffering and war for the desperate wish for evolution and justification for the things that happened to him at the end of his life.

tl;dr: nero is good and love is stored in the emperor!!
