“I could help you to sleep,” the other man replied calmly, slowly peeling off bandage tape.

“Pass.” Trouble rolled his eyes, managing not to wince as the tape came away. “I’m not tired anyway.”

“Your body must be. You took a beatin’ when you went down that hill.”

“I didn’t do it on purpose.” Trouble watched the other man’s face since looking at his wound made him feel squirmy. “Can I come with you?”

“I’m not goin’ anywhere.”

“No, I mean, when you go see whatshisname. The guy in the duct tape with blue hair. Ow.” Trouble flinched. F was pressing down too hard placing the fresh bandage. “Ow! Eff, stop,” he whimpered.

“What?” Instantly the pressure let up. F seemed to give himself a mental shake and his gaze refocused on Trouble. “No. Sorry.”

“But why?”

“You’re a mess. You shouldn’t go anywhere for a while.”

“Can’t I watch?” Trouble’s ears pricked forward. “You can carry me there and I’ll be quiet.”

“Not a chance.”

“That’s not fair,” he pouted, setting a hand on F’s wrist.

are you a teenager? do you wish you had the space & resources & organization to do a thing, whether that's an anime club or a movie night or a big craft workshop or creative writing group or literally whatever? would you like to do your thing totally for free? yes?

okay, then bring it up to a librarian

seriously, teenagers are the absolute hardest group to engage at most libraries & we'll often organize programs that absolutely no one will show up to & it sucks. if you go up to a public librarian & say "hey, some friends & i want to do this thing. does that sound like a feasible teen program for the library?" most people will move heaven & earth to pull it off for you because we know there's an interest in our community. we will go balls to the freaking wall to make it happen

do you want a cosplay contest? a video game tournament? a free escape room? bring it up to the library. it's not a burden or an annoyance at all. it'll be like christmas came early for us

“Thank you.” The captive kept still while F began to peel away the tape pinning his arms to his chest. “It was very thoughtful of you to let me have the painkillers.”

“It isn’t your fault that you were injured, so there’s no reason for you to suffer.”

Trouble watched the captive pale as he digested F’s words.

“I wish every guest could be as obedient as you. That really would be the safest way for everyone.”

Trouble narrowed his eyes and growled softly as F glanced over his shoulder at him.

“I should really go get to work.” F’s eyes were back on the captive. “Do you understand what I need you to do for me?”

“...I think so.”

“Excellent.” Trouble watched F give the captive’s blue hair an affectionate ruffle. “If my other guest isn’t behavin’ well, yell for me.”

“But you haven’t told me your name.”

“I don’t have one.” F crumpled the used tape into a giant gray wad and turned to leave. “Yell anythin’ you want. Really, it’s okay. I’m the only one who will be able to hear you. Drink your water and be good.”

“YOU UNGRATEF--”

“Careful,” Trouble interrupted, meeting the stranger’s gaze. He rested his claws against the captive’s throat. “I wouldn’t want my hand to slip.”

“Mm, mmph...”

“S-stop!”

“Someone could get hurt,” Trouble added, struggling to control his breathing. He tilted his head, resting his temple against the young man’s cheek. “I can’t believe I didn’t smell him on you. He’s very sweet.” He smirked as his captor’s eyes bulged. He made a show of burying his nose in blue hair and inhaling deeply.

“Let go of him.”

“I told you I could find my own meal.”

“He’s not for you.”

“Oh?” Trouble raised an eyebrow. “You’ve returned so quickly and I don’t see anyone else with you. Did you even mean what you said about taking care of me?” he demanded, pressing in with his fingertips so the captive’s skin dimpled around his claws.
