Joshua always helps you carry your purse and every other thing, including your feelings.

"I think I left... oh, right," you grin when Joshua brings forward your purse. You link your arm with his free one, leaning closer to press a kiss on his cheek. "Thank you, Josh."

Joshua smiled back at you, securing your purse in his other hand. He loves carrying your purse, one because you often leave them lying around without supervision, and two because he can store his phone and some other belongings in them. It's a win-win solution.

You stopped before going into the venue, smoothing the front of your dress.

"Still nervous?" Joshua stepped in front of you, trying to find your eyes.

You look up at him, seeing his sincere gaze fixed on you, the way it always does all this time. He had convinced you to come and meet his friends since all of them are in town. A small gathering, but somehow, you feel intimidated. These were the people that Joshua knew from such a young age, the people who stayed through all the ups and downs in his life. You envy them, but you're more scared that they will dismiss you easily.

"Darling?" He called you, tilting his head slightly.

"I'm fine," you tell him. Offering a genuine smile. Your fear can sit this one out.

"I promise they don't bite," he joked lightly. He then took your hand back in his arms and walked together inside the venue. You were immediately greeted by the warm atmosphere and playful energy that filled the room. Joshua turned to you, watching as a smile blooms on your face.

Soon enough, you were engaging in conversations with his friends, exchanging jokes and stories about him.

"I like her," someone spoke beside him. He had excused himself to grab a drink five minutes ago. In his hands, two glasses of soda but he stopped himself from going directly to you. Joshua smiled at the comment, his heart swelled at the amount of adoration his friends showed you.

"I like her too," Joshua said mindlessly. "No, I love her actually," he said when you turned your head to where he was standing, offering a smile and a little wave. His friend just grinned and smiled at his antics.

"Did you have fun?" Joshua asks when you both walk back to his car. Your purse is still secured on his arm. Goodbyes were exchanged, and the night was finally setting in with the moon shining brightly.

"You know, I was afraid that they wouldn't like me," you pondered. "But they're the nicest person I've ever met, Josh," you added.

"How could someone don't like you, darling?" Joshua chuckled lightly. He knows for one thing none of his friends would dislike you. Not when you're the only person who could paint the sweetest smile on his face for days on end.

You only laugh in response, feeling way lighter than before. This is how you trust Joshua; with all of your feelings packed in a purse. Trust him to always know how to handle them.

Protecting you from getting hurt.

He's a protector… period. We all know that already. He's the leader of seventeen, the leader of carats, this man is used to taking control of the situation and it's almost instinctive for him. Cheol simply doesn't notice the way he puts his hand on the edge of the table so you don't hit your head when you get up. He doesn't notice the protective hand on your back, urging you into the first seats. He notices even less the way he wakes up in the middle of the night because he knows you're moving around in a strange and potentially dangerous position for your back. It's just natural.

Jeonghan

Brushing or drying your hair.

On those occasions when you've had a bad day, your head is throbbbing and all you want is to be looked after by your boyfriend, you can bet that Jeonghan will do it. He'll follow your hair care routine step by step to the letter. Jeonghan has such a light hand that you fall asleep whenever he's gently brushing your hair. If Dino sees you with anything in your hand, he'll rush to take it from you. If you need to call the elevator, he'll rush to do it before you even think about it.

the sound of the apartment door unlocking is what catches both you and jeonghan's attention. joshua's talking on the phone to seungcheol, having returned from getting some last-minute things for the dinner you three have planned, and neither of you move to greet him. it's too hot, and the only salvation you have from the heat is how cool the floor is against your skin. the most contact you can really take is the side of jeonghan's hand pressed lazily against your own (although if he held your hand, you wouldn't complain: it's a worthy sacrifice to have that little contact with him). a reminder that he's there next to you now, suffering. the AC is cranked as low as you think it can go, but both of you see the light on signalling that it needs the filter cleaned out...

"really?" joshua shifts a bag from one arm to the other as he looks down at you two. he lets out a sigh. "they're fine, cheol," he continues on to the kitchen. "just melting."

"tell him to bring us those ice cream bars he owes us!" jeonghan yells out.

you don't have to see joshua's face to know he's rolling his eyes at him. his back is still to you, and you crane your neck a little to catch a glimpse of him as he tells seungcheol he'll call him back another time. he hangs up, and the two of you listen to the sound of him unpacking the goods. you sink back onto the floor, shutting your eyes. the apartment could be cooler. but you're sleepy with midday fatigue, and you don't think jeonghan's going to move, either.

joshua's footsteps pass you. the AC cuts off. you hear the sound of joshua opening it, and his footsteps growing distant again as he goes to scrub it clean. soon enough, he's passed by the two of you again and the AC is kicked back on and bumped back down to the lowest temperature.

and then you feel water hit your face. you jerk up, peeling yourself off the floor like a bandaid, and joshua's standing over the two of you with a smirk on his face. he's holding a glass of water in his other hand, fingers wet from where he's flicked water at you.

"ice cream bars are firming back up in the freezer," he says, and then flicks more water into your face before standing back up.

he might be a menace, but he's still your menace to love. and you see the twinkle in jeonghan's eyes as he rolls onto one side, already formulating a way to get back at him... and you're on board for that, too, because jeonghan is also your menace to love. just as much as you're theirs.
