is it wrong to admire mingyu as he leans over the open hood of your car, grease stains on his jeans, carefully looking over the problems... again? sometimes you swear you have the worst luck when it comes to this shit, but it does help that you have a mechanic living just down the hall from you... who fully introduced himself to you with his career right there.

"well?" you're sitting on the only clean chair in this place. it's technically after hours now, but mingyu made an exception when you managed to get your car towed here after it crapped out on you. he always seems to do that, for some reason. "can you fix it, doc?"

he chuckles a little, glancing over at you. "it's already fixed," he reaches up, closing the hood of your car. "i had to replace the spark plug, but i thought i'd see if i could see any other problems." mingyu reaches to a rag, wiping his hands off. "sorry about the mess. ended up taking care of a few other things, and..."

he got carried away. you shift uncomfortably in your seat. "so... how much do i--"

"you don't." he's smiling, but he's not looking at you. he's too focused on wiping off his hands, almost as if he's too shy to look at you now. "not this time. i..."

"how much would it have been?"

he says nothing. it tells you everything you need to know. very outside of what you can afford at the moment. and you frown, hugging yourself.

"mingyu, i--"

"then have dinner with me." he finally looks up. "i'm..." he licks his lips nervously, that same awkward smile coming back, "i'm not reading this wrong, am i?"

your heart flutters. you push yourself up from your chair and make your way over, leaning up to peck him on the cheek. but he recoils away quickly, laughing.

"i'm sweaty!" he says, "and--and i've got grease on me! if you want to kiss me, do it later!"

a laugh bubbles up from your chest, and you find yourself only further enamored with this silly man. "i'll take you up on that, then."

the… the tongue… okay…

maybe hannie being stuck in the woods is a good thing. for the townsfolk sake especially 😭 there probably wouldn’t even be a town left for him to rule honestly, he would’ve been like “damn i love ayce” and then just move onto the next or something

a personal favourite thought is jeonghan just, not understanding how doors work?? like windows yeah sure, probably thinking “idk why y’all covering your ventilation but alright” but doors he just does not understand and thinks humans are dumb for climbing up to their second story or whatever to get inside their homes

with reader still being human and able to leave, am thinking jeonghan using reader as bait to lure in more innocent townsfolk (probably their co-workers who are probably very worried about their sudden disappearance and suddenly seeing them at the woods). at least they’re eating tho ig

no because the townsfolk telling eachother to avoid looking into the woods, especially at night, and one day some kid does and they just see this literally entity standing there like mom i threw up waiting for his favourite human to walk by. he thinks he’s about to die but it’s literally so unbothered, maybe getting annoyed because the kid isn’t leaving so he could wait for reader in peace but hes not wasting his energy on that tonight as he watches the kid scurry off. jeonghan doenst even care that he’s just missed a possible dinner he wants his human. kid goes home that night and thinks it’s finally time he stops getting drunk in the park with his friends because what the fuck

the other species concept is so cool. or even if he’s the only one but he can like, idk control the trees and nature and what not.

loved watching the gradual loss of humanity in reader but also, did you have a certain like, way of that happening or was it a bit more up to the readers interpretation? reading it i felt like that feeling you described everytime the reader walked by the woods may be it if not a part of that but just wanted to see what you originally had in mind whilst writing it

it was so interesting seeing all that unfold though, even in the beginning and how it’s already so, dark and then the gradually intensity of it occur. i loved reading it sm, the entire fic really.

Okay so lemme try to explain this but please have patience because honestly I was just working with vibes and vague ideas throughout the whole writing process so I have not actually ever wrote this down or explained it, and I'm not even sure I really thought it all through properly ngl lol

Right so reader moved to the new place a few months back and it's close enough to the woods that Jeonghan spotted them and instantly decided he wanted to eat them, like literally entirely consume. But Jeonghan can't leave the woods so he had to try to use his monstery mind control type thing to lure reader into the woods. It didn't work.

At least, not at first. Jeonghan kept jumping into reader's mind at every chance he could to wear them down and it worked, though not when reader was awake. Jeonghan could only lure reader when it's the middle of the night (at it's darkest) and his powers are strongest because idk maybe reader was just mentally stronger with instincts that worked well enough to tell them to keep the fuck away from the woods and not even look in that direction. Which was good because the eyecontact makes Jeonghan's powers stronger and almost impossible to ignore his lure.

Anyway, basically(I say knowing I'm about to ramble even more) those scenes about reader being in the dark that seem like dreams, yeah, no, they had just fallen prey to Jeonghan's lure and had climbed out of their window every night which is why it was always open in the morning.

Jeonghan was so intruiged by their strong mind and at first, reader was a challenge he wanted to beat and was determined to lure them during the day when their will is strongest and his powers weakest. And then he just became enamoured and no longer wanted to eat reader but claim them as his own and his companion for all eternity.

Jeonghan had actually lured Seokmin before in order to spy on reader through Seokmin's mind but the poor dude didn't know and had entirely forgotten. Then the day came that Seokmin asked for reader's number and Jeonghan got posessive and so he stole Seokmin away and essentially tortured him for a while and fully took over his will. So now Seokmin is basically Jeonghan's slave and Jeonghan can use him to move in the day and away from the woods, which will help Jeonghan lure people in to eat much easier!

I hope that all made sense and answered your questions! I am very aware I cannot get to the point and just ramble a lot but that's just how my brain works so lol, sorry if it's all a bit of a mess to you

"saving the world again, shua?" jeonghan had chuckled to himself when he saw joshua for the first time, arms folded across his chest. "i didn't even know superheroes could break bones."

joshua didn't have to tell any of his friends what he was doing after he got out of the hospital. you were already blowing up his phone, and both jeonghan and seungcheol already made fun of him for kissing you and running away when they first saw him again. but he couch-surfs for the week after he gets away from doctor jihoon: from seungcheol's place, to jeonghan's, back to seungcheol's, then to soonyoung's (just to try and keep you off his tracks), then back to jeonghan's and that's where he's stayed for two days. moving around sucks, especially with a broken arm (even with the accelerated healing). the funny part about going into a situation expecting to die is that he doesn't even know how to pick up the pieces of the mess he made.

which is why he doesn't know what to say when he hears you bickering with jeonghan after buzzing the apartment half a dozen times until he let you up. soonyoung apparently told you where he was (and joshua will... probably thank him for having the guts to do what he couldn't). so he doesn't run away when you come in, instead finally facing you for the first time in a week.

"hey."

for a moment, your gaze softens as you make your way over to him. "is this arm okay?" you say, pointing to his thankfully uninjured arm. when he nods, you immediately punch it as hard as you can. thankfully, for someone like him, it doesn't do too much, and he knows you're betting on that. "i'm gonna fucking kill you for that shit, hong--are you kidding me?!"

"i thought i was going to--"

but you yank him to you by the front of his shirt, kissing him hard. he just reaches up, cupping your cheek, and smiles. even when you pull away, already angry again, he's smiling like an idiot.

"you're a jerk," you huff. "i thought--" your voice wavers a little, "i thought i'd never see your stupid, smug face again."

to his surprise, you just hug him tight. he wraps his uninjured arm around you, and savors the feeling, eyes fluttering shut. his smile falls, and the guilt he's been feeling rises in his chest again. "i'm sorry."

"you can make it up to me by buying dinner, then," you mumble, squeezing him tighter. "you big, dumb, handsome super-jerk."

(and he knows right then and there that you're going to change his name to super-jerk hong in your phone as soon as you get the chance... if it's not already that.)
