Here’s something interesting about this film. There were actually a lot of problems shooting it. Production began in 1975 but it was halted and started up again in 1977 with new cast members and choreographers. According to Kuo Chui, a lot of actors at the time were working on more than one film, so it was hard for them to allocate a lot of time to one film. It ended up not being released until 1980. The film has even gone through several different titles. One of them was "The Third Kind," as noted by Lu Feng.
Unfortunately, it was not a hit with audiences at the time. Lu Feng mentioned that Chang Cheh may have been ahead of his time. However, Lu Feng believes that Hong Kong zombie films that came later were influenced by Heaven and Hell (1980) to a certain degree.
