Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

I woke up and rubbed the sleepiness off my eyes as I looked around my room. Sunlight filtered into the room through the cracks between the curtains. I live with Erwin in a small cottage on the east side of Wall Rose near Stohess district. It's been two years since Erwin rescued me from my house. Having said that, it still seems weird since a house is presumably the place where one can feel safest but here I am breaking all laws of nature.
Instead of sending me off to some kind of orphanage, he asked me if I would like to live with him. When I said yes, he even went through the trouble of legally adopting me into his family. Now I'm Verity Smith, or V as I prefer to be called. In general, he's a fantastic brother, pampering me all the time, buying me anything I want, and just taking good care of me.
It took me a little while to get used to seeing someone actually caring about me and showing me any emotion other than hatred and anger. Moreover, I was worried that my mother would somehow find us and hurt him because I’ve seen her do that many times before to anyone that tries to help us or even speaks badly about her.
It was my dream to follow in his footsteps, be strong, courageous, independent, wise and kind. When I told him that I wanted to join the Survey Corps, he immediately refused saying that he didn’t want his sister to get hurt, but I was stubborn, so I insisted. He eventually agreed to two conditions; one, I would be trained by him and two, I would leave the wall on an expedition only if I happened to be among the top 10 cadets of the batch.
Soon after, I began training with Erwin. He was hard on me at first, but I suppose I had no choice if I was going out the wall to find certain truths and defend humanity. Because I was a fast learner, after about a year of training with him, I was able to join the Training Corps.
My first interaction with Levi came through Erwin, who introduced us on my first day at the Training Corps. I once heard about Erwin rescuing him from the underground world, and now he has decided to join the Corps after some convincing by Erwin himself.
I was quite an introvert...as my life revolved around Erwin and I never really met anyone other than Erwin’s acquaintance John who worked with him. He was a very nice guy. He was about Erwin's age, and whenever I was done with Erwin's harsh training, he would always fetch me water and make sure I got back home safely without passing out. I also consider him to be my brother.
Levi struck me as a man who was hiding something behind his cold and intimidating facade and I wanted to know him on a deeper level.
“Levi! This is my sister Verity and she will be training in the same batch as you so hope you both get along”, said Erwin introducing me to him as he nods and leaves and then my brother turns to me and says, “This is Levi….he’s someone I really trust. So stick with him throughout your time here if you don’t feel comfortable talking to anyone else...ok?”
“Um...sure”, I replied hesitantly as Levi stared daggers into my soul while talking to two of his friends. I observed him talking to a girl whose hair was reddish strawberry-coloured and a sandy-blonde guy. I noticed he looked really calm and even laughed when he was with them, so I assumed he must have known them from earlier and be friends with them.
“Well anyway...good luck and work hard on your training if you want to join me outside. Got it?...You do remember your promise... right?” asked Erwin.
I rolled my eyes as I replied, “Yes… I know. I’ve to come out among the top ten or I won't be joining the Survey Corps.”
As he patted my head, he chuckled and we parted ways.
I then looked around feeling nervous due to my social anxiety. I didn’t know anyone there except Levi, so I decided to go and stay by his side. As I approached Levi and his friends, I saw the girl’s eyes light up as she whispered something to the blonde guy who looked at me and smiled.
Moments after I approached them, the girl introduced herself enthusiastically, “Hi!! My name is Isabel Magnolia, you can just call me Isabel and this is Farlan”, she said as she pointed towards the sandy blonde guy.
“H-Hi. I’m Verity, you can just call me V.” I replied nervously.
“It’s nice to meet you. Would you like to sit with us during dinner?” Farlan asked with a slight smile. My anxiety must have been obvious earlier, I thought to myself.
“Sure...I’ll take you up on the offer” I said, feeling relieved that I wouldn’t need to socialize for the day.
Levi stared at me throughout dinner, so I felt super uncomfortable sitting with them. He seemed to be trying to figure me out so I didn't say anything and just ate dinner alongside him and his friends.
I went out for a walk with Isabel after dinner.
"I'm sorry about Levi, he's been through a lot so he acts strangely around strangers. Once you get to know him, he's quite nice, so just give him some time and he'll come around.” Isabel muttered looking up at the stars in the bright sky.
“It’s alright… I'm not that good with strangers either so I can't really blame him” I chuckled.
"If I'm crossing a boundary, please let me know; however, I can't help but wonder if you're actually related to Captain Erwin because you both look so different in terms of appearance. It’s not just that….but i had heard earlier that he was a single child" She questioned hesitantly looking at my nervous figure.
“I- Um…. He’s…..” I took a deep breath before replying “He adopted me into his family a few years ago...but I consider him as my own brother after everything he’s done for me” I answered not meeting her eyes anymore.
“I understand that it’s a sensitive topic for you and I’m sorry for bringing it up and making you uncomfortable. I was just curious. It’s okay….none of us had a proper family or parental figure, so we just relied on each other. So we know what it’s like...but I’m glad you were able to find a family that loves you. You’re always welcome to join us...we’ll be happy to be your friend.”
I felt so happy at that moment and felt like I could conquer anything at that time. She was the first friend I had ever made and she had a super kind heart in spite of the things she had faced in the underground.
Over time, I learned more about Farlan and Levi's background or rather, their life story in general. I became very close to Farlan as well, and he always treated me as if I had grown up with them. I tried a number of ways and methods to get close to Levi, but he never let me inside the walls he had built up. The most I ever got out of him was an order that the Captain asked him to pass on to me. It frustrated me to no end, but I calmed down after remembering that he had endured so much at such a young age. I went through something similar but the problem was that he didn’t know that….I had only told Isabel and she kept it a secret for me. Sometimes I wondered if he would have let me in, if he knew about my past.
It didn’t help that I developed a massive crush on him. I know I know…. you might be thinking that it’s the usual ‘falling in love with a cold guy that doesn’t show emotions’ story. Probably….but i’m pretty sure that the reason I developed a crush on him was because I admired him. I admired him because he went through a hell of a past, stood strong and became independent mostly without help unlike me who couldn’t even stand up for myself and needed someone to come save me. Even though I am stronger, independent, and more confident than I was a few years ago...I could not help but reflect on my pathetic past self.
There was just a few more weeks left before we would emerge as soldiers...and it was around this time that I first met Hange Zoe. I had noticed her earlier several times but never really got the chance to actually talk to her. My introvert ass also played a big role here, but let’s just ignore that. The moment I met her, I could see an unrealistic glint...or was it love in her eyes? She was very much interested in learning about the titans rather than the training itself. I found that very odd, since the rest of us always barely stayed awake in such classes. But this doesn’t mean that she was bad in training….she was pretty good at it, however she would easily get distracted. She even got Levi to talk with her in a conversation for about three minutes. I was pretty jealous, but also upset because he must really hate me if he can talk to everyone else for longer than 5 seconds, but not with me.
I was with Isabel and the guys eating our dinner one night when….
“Hey….are you gonna eat that?” I turned to find Hange pointing at the mashed potatoes that I had pushed aside on my plate.
“Uh…..no..? You can take it if you want it.” I said awkwardly.
“Thanks….by the way do you don’t mind if I join you guys? I would eat alone but I was feeling rather tired and you guys seem interesting. Can you guys believe that the titans are right outside a few kilometers?!! What kind of titans do you think we’ll see there?? Huhh?? It would be great if we saw at least a few abnormals!!! God I can’t wait for the day we go on an expedition!!!” She kept mumbling on and on about Titans. We were all dumbfounded but soon went back to eating while nodding occasionally to whatever she was saying.
I looked up to see Levi looking at her with irritation clearly written on his face which made me giggle. Everyone suddenly turned to me questioningly while I tried to do damage control by coughing and lowering my face so I wouldn't make eye contact with them. I could feel Levi’s scrutinizing gaze burning holes into my body. They soon returned to their meals and continued eating again but I started feeling extremely uncomfortable with Levi’s stare. I could tell that he didn’t want me there since this was not the first time he had done that….so I hesitantly turned to Isabel and whispered in her ear, “Hey...uh..i’m not feeling so good, I think I will just return to our dorm a little early and try to get some rest. See you there…” She nodded with a small smile as I walked back to the girls’ dorm.
I was rooming with a girl named Ayume and she was a quiet one and never really bothered me so I liked her. She was not in the room so I assumed she was with her boyfriend who was also a trainee here, though I never really met him personally. The moment I laid down in my bed, I heard a knock.
“Who is it?” I yelled.
“Hange….Hange Zoe” A voice replied.
I immediately sat up wondering what she wanted with me, my anxiety kicking in. I had only talked to her once...and that was today so I can’t really say that I trust her but I hesitantly walked up to the door and peeked out looking at Hange standing with a calm look on her face which is very unusual considering her attitude. But then again I don’t really know her so I weakly smiled at her and asked
“Hey...How can I help ya?”
“I just wanted to talk to you about something...can I come in?”
“Yeah...sure…..”
I opened the door wide enough for her to enter and then I sat on my study table while she sat at my bed. She looked up slightly tilting her head and asked in a sheepish voice, “I heard a lot of rumour going on about you that you are one of the squad captain’s sister. I believe it was Captain Smith but that would make sense considering your name is Smith.”
I was quiet for a moment, shocked at how she jumped straight to the matter but also kind of impressed that she had the confidence to come ask me instead of talking behind my back like the others.
“Yep...that’s me”
“Oooh cool...that must mean your brother must have access to all secret information on the outside world and titans right??!!” She asked, jumping around enthusiastically.
I chuckled and replied, “Probably….but that doesn’t mean I have access to it...so no I won’t be able to get it for you” knowing that she must have wanted them considering her reaction.
She pouted and slumped back into the bed “Aw….man, I really thought you would be able to get them. Well, anyway….”
She suddenly stood up before continuing, “You have a crush on that shorty don’t you?”
My head snapped up to meet her eyes, and my mouth fell open as I tried to speak, but nothing came out.
She giggled as she went on, “I knew it….I have seen you from the first day you came here and watched you follow him around like a lost puppy while he kept ignoring you. To be honest, I wanted to befriend you from the first day I saw you but you looked like you were going to pass out if anyone even so much as approached you. So I figured you must be having social anxiety and let you settle in before I opened my loud mouth. I know that I can be overbearing which is one of the reasons why nobody wants to be my friend but I just couldn’t resist you. You are very pretty so don’t worry, one day the shorty will come around and realise your worth.”
I blushed at her compliment, feeling more comfortable in her presence as she continued, “Till then, how'd you like to be my friend?? We can go to the town tomorrow considering it’s a free day for us. What do you say??”
She was pretty loud, but I couldn't help myself and gave her a genuine smile, “You know what? Sure...let’s go out tomorrow. I actually do like you and I don’t find you overbearing. Yeah I don’t do well around people, but people not wanting to be your friend just because of your loud personality is really stupid. They just lost a gem”
She gave me a calm smile as I went ahead and hugged her.
“Welp...anyway it’s about time for curfew...got to run. See ya tomorrow Verity” She waved as she walked out the door towards the stairs.
I felt excited for tomorrow’s outing with my new friend and feeling more comfortable than before, I went back to sleep.

Omg....I was not aware that Chatbot could do that!
But seriously it's so unfortunate that people have started using such tools leading to lack of interest and discouragement from actually amazing fanfic authors. It's okay if your fruit of labour takes time, because the end product makes up for it.
So kindly support your fanfic authors and send love to them and their works!

kind of wanna reinforce this here. because i’ve seen ai writing become so popular on tik tok.
ai writing is not okay.
it’s literally theft. just like how ai art steals, ai writing steals. it’s using authors’ very real work to generate whatever you type in. and this also needs to be said as well.
writing is a form of art. fanfiction is a form of literature.
seeing this all over my fyp is REALLY discouraging. fanfic itself is already a labor of love and we love it when you interact. but please do not use ai writing for your fanfic needs when this writing literally steals from fanfic authors.
genuinely don’t know if this post will go around because my interactions outside of hcs are shit, but i hope it does.
This is such a cute scenario!!!

“Lovely wedding, isn’t it?”
You smile at the man who had just joined you at the open bar as he hops onto the stool next to yours.“Mm, indeed,” you agree before taking a sip from your glass. Apple juice, because you can’t drink on the job. “Though, it’s bad manners to look better than the groom, don’t you think, Seungcheol?”
As disgustingly corny as it is to say, he’ll always be the prettiest person you know. He’s the prettiest when he’s greeting customers with a warm grin, when he’s wearing his pink apron that has Cherry Bakery emblazoned across the front in red bubble font, even when he’s pulling an all-nighter to put the finishing touches on his special orders, icing sugar dusted across his shirt and counters as though a mini snowstorm had wreaked havoc in your kitchen.
And he’s still the prettiest right now, in his wedding guest attire of polished shoes, slacks and a crisp button-up, the sleeves neatly cuffed to expose his forearms. I clean up well, you recall him joking earlier today as you both rushed around the reception venue. It’s perhaps the biggest understatement you’ve heard this week, but you only had enough time to respond with a teasing call of just don’t get frosting on your shirt!
“Have you seen the floral centerpieces?” Seungcheol asks casually, gently plucking you out of your thoughts to bring you back to reality. “The colours and composition are stunning, whoever made them must be an artistic genius.”
You hide your smile behind the rim of your glass, cheeks warming from his praises. “I could say the same for whoever made the wedding cake. Tasted as good as it looked too. Have you tried it?”
Seungcheol angles his body to properly face you. Your eyes naturally drift to his collarbones, now further highlighted by the glow of the fairy lights hanging above you. He catches you staring, and smirks. “No, not yet,” he purrs, “maybe we could share a slice before it’s all gone—”
“Oh, good! You’re both here!” The bride glides over to you from the dance floor with her husband not far behind, and you’re reminded of a princess as the floaty tulle of her gown kisses the polished tiles.
Radiating pure happiness, she takes your hands in hers. “I just wanted to thank you again,” she tells you sincerely. Her wide eyes, accentuated by shimmery makeup, brim with unshed tears. The flowers looked so lovely today. I’m so glad my friend recommended you, I’m already planning to press some from my bouquet!”
Unable to conceal your relief at the positive reception, you give her hands a reassuring squeeze. “I’m happy that you like them. Congratulations again, and thank you for letting us join the reception!”
The bride beams, cheeks aglow with a pretty pink flush that you liken to the roses from her bouquet. “Of course, you two helped make this possible!” She moves on to Seungcheol. “And you—the cake was incredible. I know I said the same at the tasting, but it really is the best cake I’ve ever had.”
“Thank you,” he says with a gracious smile, “it’s an honour to be part of your special day.”
“I’m no baker, but the icing details must’ve taken forever,” the groom chimes in, “you did a great job.”
Briefly, Seungcheol’s eyes meet yours, and you just manage to catch the mirth swirling in them before he turns back to the couple. “Ah, well, I got lots of encouragement.”
The glance you two shared had seemingly not gone unnoticed under the bride’s observant gaze. “Babe,” she chirps with a snap of her fingers, looking over at her husband, “don’t they look like they’d be cute together? A lot of people meet their partners at weddings, y’know.”
“Actually,” out of the corner of your eye, you catch Seungcheol biting down on his lower lip to suppress a laugh, “we…uh—”
Taking your hesitance for discomfort, the groom offers a sheepish smile. “Sorry, we don’t mean to make you both uncomfortable.” He gazes affectionately at his wife as he interlaces their fingers. “We should get you some water, hm, darling? You’ve already had a few flutes of champagne.”
Seungcheol waits until the couple are out of earshot before swivelling in his stool to face you with a pout. “I’m surprised they haven’t noticed,” he mumbles, looking down at his shirt, “I thought it was pretty obvious I matched with you too.”
You grin, wholly endeared by your boyfriend’s sulky display as you pat his knee in consolation. “You know what they say, love does make you blind. But if it makes you feel any better, I think you look really good today.”
He perks up at your words, a cheeky smile now playing on his lips as he leans in close enough for you to catch a whiff of his cologne. The warm, woody scent is comfortingly familiar, reminding you of rare, lazy mornings with your head tucked under his chin, face nuzzled into his soft T-shirt. It’s a smell you now associate with him, with home.
“Well, I think you look even better,” he murmurs, leaving you hypnotised by the adoration dripping from his gaze, “what do you say we go get some of that cake now?”
Your hand slips into his, much like all the other times you’ve done before. “I say that’s a sweet idea.”
“Not as sweet as you, though.”
“Mm, let’s leave the cheesiness to the bride and groom for tonight.”

Pairing: Deity!Seonghwa x gn!Reader
Genre: one shot, meet cute, fluff, god!au, magic!au, sfw
Word Count: 1.1k
Summary: You accidentally make an offering to an ancient and obscure god. You didn't expect him to show up in front of you, his first worshipper in centuries.
Warnings: Friends who leave you behind in the forest, mentions of drinking, a tiny bit of angst if you squint

You felt foolish.
You should have known your “friends” would pull such a nasty prank on you. At this particular moment, alone in the forest at the edge of the town, you felt like cursing your friends to the fiery depths of hell.
This morning, your childhood friend had asked you to accompany them and a few others to the pub. You’d agreed, it had been an exhausting week, and you needed a pick-me-up to start the weekend on a better note. After a few drinks, the four of you found yourselves in a McDonald’s, playing a game of truth and dare. Your friend was dared to step into the forest and stay there for five minutes. The others had agreed to walk to the edge with them to ascertain they’d complete the dare. But you weren’t expecting your friend to turn the tables on you and ask you to go deeper and wait for them to come to you. A few minutes later, when no one had arrived, you shouted their names to no avail. The fact that they had left you in the forest with nothing but a bag of french fries sobered you up quicker than anything else.
Sighing, you looked around, hoping to find a trail to get back to the edge and make your way home. You didn’t find one, but something else caught your eye. It was a moss-covered statue similar in style to the Roman ones you’d seen in books and documentaries. Intrigued by the random statue in the middle of nowhere, you approached it cautiously. You went around it, looking for a name or something that would tell you something about it, only to be disappointed.
Finding yourself at the front of the statue again, you decided to get closer, only to trip on a raised brick. Looking down, you realized it had some text, and you dropped down to brush the leaves aside.
The God of Stars
“So, you’re a god, huh?” Your eyes took in the statue’s almost life-like features, wonder filling you at the artist’s beautiful craftsmanship. You chuckled sadly, “Must be pretty lonely to be in the middle of nowhere.”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have much to offer you, my friends left me in this forest, and I’ve nothing but this. Something tells me you’d appreciate these fries more than I do right now,” you mumbled a prayer under your breath and placed the bag of uneaten fries at the feet of the statue.
It happened in a flash, one moment, the forest was calm, and the next, a gust of wind had caused all the fallen leaves to rise from the ground. You closed your eyes, crouching to protect yourself from the sudden onslaught of wind, leaves, and dust. You opened one eye when the wind died, only to choke on air when you saw a beautiful hand stretched out in front of you.
Your gaze followed the hand up the person’s arm and landed on his face. He was beautiful, to put it simply. His hair was silver and shone in the dark, the silvery wisps glowing in the moonlight. Though his expression was impassive, his eyes were shining with glee, so much so that it seemed as if there were stars in his eyes. His skin seemed to shimmer with gold, like the rings that adorned his fingers. You blinked at the man, wondering who he was and how he’d found you. You were sure no one had been around moments ago.
“You know, my hand is going to start cramping if I hold it out much longer,” his voice was lovely too, like how you would imagine silk would sound, and a few octaves lower than you imagined it to be, what with his delicate features. You hesitantly placed your hand in his, allowing him to help you into a standing position.
“Who…” Your voice caught your throat when you saw the bag of french fries in his other hand. You looked behind him to see the empty pedestal where the moss-covered statue had once been.
“I see you’ve put two and two together,” the corner of his lips quirked upwards when he saw your shocked and mildly fearful expression. “I won’t hurt you, mortal. After all, you’re the first person to have prayed to me in centuries.”
“Centuries?” You asked softly. The way he’d said that sounded really sad, and you felt a tinge of sorrow for the man– no, god in front of you.
He hummed, his eyes gazed into the distance as if he was seeing things that had long since passed. “I used to be one of the gods of the pantheon the humans of this place worshipped long ago. Then one day, they were driven away because of famines, and it wasn’t until your ancestors built the town that I saw humans again. But a few decades later, everyone forgot about me, so here I’ve been, sleeping through it all.”
“I’m sorry,” you mumbled, not knowing what else to say.
He shrugged, “It’s not a big deal. It’s just what happens with the rise and fall of civilizations. Anyways, do you have a name?”
“Do you?” You retort, curious to know the name of the deity in front of you.
Your question caused him to chuckle, a melodic sound that reminded you of the wind chimes you’d hung on your windowsill. It was a sound you could hear for the rest of your life.
“Of course I do,” he replied, amused by your curiosity. “My name is Seonghwa.”
“That’s a surprisingly fitting name,” you commented. You were surprised by how you had taken this whole meeting with a god thing in stride. It was either due to you still being slightly drunk or because he had a calming presence. You’d like to think it was the latter.
He huffed out another chuckle before humming in agreement. “I still don’t know your name.”
“Ah,” you smile apologetically and introduce yourself.
“So, what kind of people are your friends? You don’t just leave your friends in the forest, in the middle of the night, no less,” he said. His tone reminded you of a disapproving parent disappointed by their child’s actions.
“They were drunk,” you shrugged.
“That doesn’t excuse their behaviour. You should make new friends.” Then as if suddenly remembering the bag of fries in his hand, he grabbed one, looking at it in fascination. With a bit of uncertainty, he nibbled onto it, eyes lighting up at the taste. “Oh, this tastes better than I expected.”
His awed tone caused you to laugh, and you made a decision, “Hey, Seonghwa, would you like to get some chicken nuggets to go with the fries?”
He smiled, nodding in answer, “Lead the way.”
My sister just gave birth like 2 days ago and it was total chaos so this hit close to home for me...
