Don’t over-identify with your chart.

Don’t get too worked up about it. It’s toxic.

Something that I see and hear way too often, mostly on here and when talking to people that don’t really understand astrology in real life, is people seeing their chart, exploring it, and then starting to act “more” like it, describe themselves according to their chart, or only just getting way too worked up over it. Stop. You’re not a chart. You’re a human.

Your chart is not supposed to be a guide for you telling you how to act, it’s not some sort of magical enlightment after which’s discovery your life will magically truly begin because you found out who you are and what you’re supposed to do. It’s easy to do, humans yearn for something that gives them direction. That can be the government, laws, their friends, families, institutions, it can come from within (meaning you built yourself your own structures and rules. Some of which are called morals. That’s besides the point, though) or from outside, and astrology is all to easy to use for this because it literally tells you “hey, look at this. this is you.” but that’s not what you’re supposed to do with it. I’m going to quote @astrologymarina here because she put it really nicely:

“Trying to play out your birth chart is not being yourself. Exaggerating all the traits associated with your placements is not authenticity. Don’t worry about becoming your chart, because you can’t not be it.”

ESPECIALLY as humans, we really tend to, at times (or really, all of the time, just to different measures), put a selective lense over our perception - we don’t see everything at once with complete objectivity, ever, not even our actual bodily sight works like this. When looking at your chart, you will always find one or multiple things that catch your eyes most - maybe because, at the time, this part is a big theme in your life, or maybe because it seems exceptionally fitting, or especially foreign. It really doesn’t matter. The point is that, with your selective perception, you will start to decide on (and will see this deciding as “finding”) “focal points” in your chart - something that not actually exists as your chart is just an objective screenshot of the firmament at the time of your birth. This is one reason why many astrologers don’t “believe” in dominants - it creates the illusion of a “focal point” in your chart that takes the wheel and drives around the globe with all the other planets, signs, placements, and aspects in the backseat. Back to the topic: With this selective perception, you’re bound to be tempted to over-identify and work yourself up over something. Very typical examples for this are the sun, moon, dominants, and on another, smaller level lilith and chiron. @venusian5 talked about this earlier, but people tend to get overly fatalistic over lilith and chiron because they don’t represent something (conventionally) “good” in your chart (you can read the rest of what he said here). The sun and moon are other common parts for this due to the emphasis many astrologers put on them. Especially people who don’t have a good grasp on themselves and are rather unaware of themselves are prone to over-identify with their chart. It’s easy, it’s comfortable. You have something telling you who you are and how to be, no need to figure it out yourself anymore, right? It’s natural to not be self-aware to some extent and to wish for it to be that easy, but you shouldn’t use astrology to escape the need for self-reflection and self-growth.

Don’t use your selective view of your chart to over-identify with some parts. You’re all of them - if you don’t identify with some, you either a) haven’t grown into them yet, b) have already transcended them (though in these two cases, you can still always see “traces” of them), c) don’t understand them properly, d) ignore other parts that influence this one, or e) simply deny this part. This is not supposed to be a call-out, we’ve all been there at some point. The thing is you shouldn’t stay there because it’s comfortable. Astrology is not designed to be comfortable. Modern western astrology likes to romanticize (and fatalise) lots of placements, but that’s not the way to go.

Astrology is supposed to enhance your life, not limit it even more by having you limit yourself to what you think your chart tells you.

What You Don’t Know

*Sun, Moon, maybe 12th house*

~May trigger

Aries: Afraid to be sad. Afraid to release emotions. They don’t want anything to come in their way of their positivism. Can not come to terms with negative emotions because they refuse to deal with emotional pain. After heartbreak, these people will hide from love because the pain and hurt that comes with it is simply not worth it. Let your Aries cry on your shoulder and be soft with them :(

Taurus: Can have an extremely chaotic mind when stress takes over. Can be brutally mean to the people around them if they feel like their being pushed. Being overwhelmed as a Taurus effects everything around them because its really a cry for help. If they say mean things when their upset, its not because of you, its because they need the help they are too prideful to ask for.

Gemini: Scared of being alone, scared to be alone with their thoughts. They’re so social because they constantly want to bounce ideas off other people, they want to be recognized, and they want someone to listen to what they have to  say. When their alone, its almost a panic, who is going to listen? Who is going to recognize them as a person? Its just the same thoughts over and over.

Cancer: Scared of never reaching their full potential. Scared of never losing the weight, never getting that job, never finding love. This people will sulk and become self-destructive at the THOUGHT of never being good enough for themselves. Everyone sees them as cute lil fairies, so they can’t understand why their Cancer friends are worried. Everyone sees the potential but them.

Leo: Scared of being alone. Like Gemini, but in the way that everyone will leave them. Leos don’t necessarily like being left in a home alone, but they can stand it. They are worried about their loved ones leaving them, and never loving them again, which could bring out their abrasive and controlling attitude. Hug your Leo beans tight, they need you more then they will admit!

Virgo: Virgos are humanitarians, they are cold with their own emotions, but empathetic with others. These beings hold a lot of guilt, because they soak up other people’s energies. They carry other people’s negative emotions, which could break these fragile flowers. If you’re a virgo and you feel down for no reason, meditate, take a bath, get lost in nature.

Libra: Libras are big spenders, they like luxury and they love buying things for others cause they’re cute lil guys. BUT, these people are worried that their never going to be financially stable enough to be happy. They want to spoil themselves and other people, and they want to do it the right way, extravagantly.

Scorpio: These people are sensitive af. They won’t show you unless they trust you fully but they are a water sign for a reason! They think compulsively about everything said and done, and the reasons behind it. Be soft with these creatures because they care deeply for everyone. Hug a Scorpio today and tell em you love their crazy ass.

Sagittarius: These people are scared of being stagnant. They want change constantly. They feel trapped inside of themselves looking for something to cause a thrill. Whether it be traveling, moving, a change of heart, these people need to see themselves flourish and change, they can’t bear to stay the same.

Capricorn: Scared of success. These people are scared of succeeding and not succeeding at the same time. They can handle the stress and responsibility of success, but they are scared of trying and not succeeding. They want to be successful so badly, but the chance of failure can be stronger than their determination.

Aquarius: Scared of being no help. They want to help and improve their friends, their family, the world. Like Virgo, they want the best  for everyone, but they have to realize you can’t fix everyone. They want to share what they know in hopes that it  can touch their lives like it touched their own. Sweet sweet beings.

Pisces: Pisces are extremely vulnerable. The way they grow up, the things they see, the people they meet, the thoughts in their head, and what they do with their free time is CRUCIAL to either being developed or undeveloped. Of course, if you grew up with a less than beneficial family or etc, they can always bounce back. But, it’s hard for Pisces and their emotional nature because their hearts bruise so easily :( if you’re a Pisces struggling, find a creative outlet for your free time i promise it helps!!!!
