what’s your take on asesprite vis-a-vis other traditional design software (photoshop, affinity, gimp etc.) is it worth the extra money for doing pixel art specifically?
I have being using PS for years. Not just for pixel art, but for other kinds of work (Illustrations, photos...).
I bought Aseprite about 2 years ago. So far I have no complaints. Is very focus and easy to use, especially for animations, that I did not used to do before I started using it. I bought it on steam and I can say already payed itself.
As for other tools. I have worked with Pro Motion NG. As far I can tell is the most complete one in features. Is an applicative made especcifically for doing game back in the day I think.
But is very hard to navegate(for me at least).
But all comes down to preferences in the end of the day.
Hope it was helpful.

I small token of friendship.

My pixel version of Doc Savage - The Man of Bronze. Will work a background for it and possibly give some more polish on the character too.

Doc Savage - The Man of Bronze. Based this one on the 1975 movie poster.

This piece is in a good place right now. I wanted to do some engravings on the armor, but I will need to figure those out first to reflect the culture around them. I was confined by the original drawing I did years ago, so it feels stiff, I problem I have in general when I portrait characters I think. I think I need to make the sword in 3D. That would help a lot. Upside-down face
