The royalties of Mist were leaving.
For the entire two weeks that they have been here, you refused to talk to, or even look at Kim Hongjoong. The Prince of Mist kept to his promise and kept a distance away from you, but even though he did, you could always feel his possessive gaze on you.Â
âGoodbye, little Y/n.â The Queen of Mist says fondly, patting you on the head as Beomgyu, at the back, whines about not being her favourite anymore. Your parents had already bade them farewell prior to this. You said your goodbyes politely, sliding behind Yeonjun smoothly once you were done.Â
You could feel Hongjoong staring at you.
You look up to the carriage. Hongjoong was indeed staring at you. As your gaze met each otherâs, a smug smirk tugged at the corner of Hongjoongâs lips. His lips parted and closed, words soundlessly coming out from his mouth. You glared at him from behind Yeonjun, and he smirked again, disappearing from the carriage window.Â
âY/n, are you okay?â A warm hand was placed on your shoulder. Yeonjun looked at you in concern, and your anger dissipated. He must have felt the negativity radiating from you. You shook your head and gathered up a bright smile. âI'm fine, Brother.â
You're not. The Queen of Mist boarded the carriage, and you and your brothers stood at the gate, watching them leave. As the carriage disappeared into the distance, what Hongjoong said replayed in your mind.
âSee you soon, my Star.â

You rushed to your room, dismissing all the maids and servants. You headed straight towards your desk, taking out a piece of parchment and a feathered quill.Â
See you soon? You rolled your eyes. Hongjoongâs threat reminded you of something. You quickly scribbled down the names of the important characters and events of Utopia on the parchment, forming a complicated web upon the paper.
Utopiaâs story starts like this: A normal girl Lee Jiwon from a common family had transmigrated into the game after a car accident. She then became the youngest daughter of a fallen noble family in the kingdom of Mist. She then attended the power discovering ceremony when she was thirteen years old, and discovered that she has the power of light and healing - a power only the saintness have. She was then taken to the Temple, where she met Jeong Yunho for the first time. He was the first love interest that the players of Utopia came across.
You drew a line from Yunhoâs name to Jiwon, and then you linked both of them to the temple. While at the temple, she also met Kang Yeosang, son of the Southern Duke of Mist. The two met each other at the temple while Jiwon was tending to an injured animal she discovered in the bushes. Yeosang then slowly fell in love with her because of how gentle and kind she was, and so did Yunho. Yunho and Yeosang will then proceed to secretly vye for Jiwonâs affection, but she would be oblivious to it.
You drew a line from Yeosang to the Temple and back to Jiwon.Â
After spending three years of studying in the Temple, Jiwon will enrol into the Magic Academy of Utopia, becoming a student.Â
The Magic Academy is a prestigious school attended by royalties and the gifted with magic from all kingdoms. It is built on neutral land, and the closer kingdoms around it are Mist, Miroh and Klaxon It is protected by a mysterious force of power.Â
In the Academy, Jiwon will then gain the attention of Hongjoong, the crown prince of Mist, because of her status. Hongjoong sent Seonghwa to approach the soon-to-be saintness on his behalf, and the attendant fell in love with her instead. Intrigued by this, Hongjoong decided to approach Jiwon himself.
You drew two more lines, linking Hongjoong, Seonghwa and Jiwon together. Your quill hovered above your name.Â
You, the villainess Y/n, enters the plot here. You were invited to an event in Mist, and was soon enrolled into the academy. Choi San, the son of the war general of Mist, was picked as your guard. Through him you met Hongjoongâs younger brother, Jung Wooyoung. Through the event, you had fallen in love with Kim Hongjoong, and was jealous of Lee Jiwon. Wooyoung was the one who encouraged you to pick on Jiwon, roping in San to assist you, only to then expose you in front of everyone, resulting in your imprisonment. .
A war between Eternity and Mist began, and you watched your family die before you, before Hongjoong took your head off himself.
You shivered, goosebumps rising across your skin as you drew lines between Wooyoung, San and yourself, before linking your brothers to San.
Although you couldnât remember what happened next, you knew that Beomgyu was the only person left alive, and was crowned the ruler of Eternity. You stared at his name, before giving out a sigh in frustration.Â
Your gaze turned to the two more unlinked names: Song Mingi and Choi Jongho.Â
Mingi is the childhood best friend of Yunho. He had become a love interest after Y/nâs death as he had enrolled in the academy after her event. Jongho, however, was the most mysterious character.Â
You drew a line from Jonghoâs name to another name: âMagic Towerâ.Â
The Magic Tower is almost the same as the Magic Academy. However, its learning environment was more harsh and dangerous. Students of the Magic Tower are free to battle and kill each other to take places.
Beomgyu attends the Magic Tower due to his powers.Â
You bit your lower lip in frustration. You seemed to have found a key, but you have no idea which lock it belongs to.Â
Carefully, you linked Beomgyu to the Magic Tower, and then to Jongho.Â
Suddenly, a thought struck you. What if, instead of enrolling into the Magic Academy, you enrol into the Magic Tower?
Besides, youâll enter the tower one year earlier than him, which means that you do not have to face him. You could just avoid him at the tower and stay with Beomgyu. Since most of the plot happens in the Magic Academy, you can avoid them by going to the Magic Tower.Â
Right?

Seoul Hospital.Â
Urgent footsteps echoed off the walls of the cold corridors of the hospital. Kang Taehyun ran as fast as his legs could carry him, apologising profusely to the people he bumped into along his way. His eyes flickered towards the signs in front of the wards, counting them.Â
06âŠ07âŠ08!
Taehyun stopped abruptly, pushing the door of the hospital ward wide open. Inside, a blonde figure stood up at the sight of him, looking relieved. âTaehyun oppaâŠâ
âHowâs Y/n?â Taehyun rushed forwards to the unmoving girl lying on the hospital bed. âWhat did the doctor say?â
Hiyyih shook her head. She seemed tired, her lips dry and devoid of their usual rosy colour as she sat back down. âThey say that they have no idea what happened to her⊠She just had a shock and slipped into a coma.âÂ
âSo sheâs okay?â Taehyunâs heart broke at the sight of his little sister on the hospital bed. Hiyyih didnât answer that, but from her tired expression, Taehyun could only assume the best. âWhereâs Kai?â
Hiyyihâs eyes glinted at the mention of her older brother. âHe went to check with the doctor about Y/n. Iâve been taking care of her ever since I found her.â
âThank you.â Taehyun said gratefully. Now that heâs looking directly at Hiyyih, he noticed that she looked terrible - there were bags under her eyes and her skin was paler than usual. She waved her hand, cracking a small smile. âDonât, we have known each other for years now. Besides, Y/nâs my roommate.â
âStill, Iâm glad you discovered her.â Taehyun insisted.Â
The door opened. Kai stepped in, his eyes lighting up at the sight of Taehyun. âYouâre here!â Kai exclaimed, somewhat looking like his younger sister. There were similar bags under his eyes, and Taehyun couldnât help but feel even more moved. âYeah, I rushed here as soon as the plane landed.â
âSince youâre here, oppa, Iâll go and take a rest first.â Hiyyih yawned, grabbing her sweater. Kai and Taehyun nodded, as the blonde girl left the ward.Â
âThe doctors say that Y/nâs coma was sudden with no reason.â Kai said, sitting down on the couch where his younger sister had previously rested. âThere was no known cause, and Hiyyih said that Y/n doesnât have any drinking or smoking habits. They sent her down for the CT scan and there was nothing wrong.â
âSo she slipped into a coma without knowing why?â Taehyun carefully removed a strand of hair on his sisterâs face. âI shouldnât have flown to JapanâŠâ
Kai paused. He made a face, one that he would wear when he is in a dilemma. Taehyun saw it, and he said, âIs there anything else I should know?â
Kai fiddled with his thumbs. âWell, I know it's an inappropriate time for me to say this, especially when Y/n is lying here, but the VR program for Utopia has a problem.âÂ
Taehyun and Kai have been best friends since young, having known each other when both of them were in diapers. Two years ago, Kai had developed an otome game - a present for his younger sister Hiyyih - and it became so popular that Kai began to gain profit from it. Taehyun was his first investor and the biggest shareholder of his little gaming company, and since then they have been working together.Â
Recently, Kai had come up with the idea of inducing VR - Virtual Reality - to the game, where players of Utopia can have a more surreal gaming experience. Taehyun had flown to Japan to attend a techshow to know more about it, before he received the call about Y/n.Â
âThatâs not the only problem,â Kai added carefully, watching the frown deepen on Taehyunâs face. âThis might sound crazy, but yesterday, when I was trying out the VR version, there was something⊠weird.â
âWhat do you mean, âweirdâ?â Taehyun repeated. Kai breathed in deeply.Â
âYou remember the beta version of the villainess route, the one we accidentally released but called back?âÂ
âYes.â Taehyun remembered, vividly. Kai was spamming his phone with texts and panicking while the rest of his employees tried their best to salvage the situation. Luckily, only one user was able to update the game fully, and they have been trying to contact that player. âItâs about Player 1117, right? Have you found them?âÂ
âNo.â Kai shook his head. âBut, the thing is, while I was loading the game up to the beta version in the studio, there were some⊠really weird changes.â
Taehyun raised a brow. âWhat changes?â
âRemember Y/n, like, the villainess of the game?âÂ
Taehyun almost laughed at that. Yes, he remembered suggesting the name to Kai because he and Y/n had a little squabble, and Taehyun was feeling petty at that time. âYeah, what about her?â
âShe was originally supposed to attend the Magic Academy, right?â Kai questioned, taking out his own phone and tapping away. He then showed the screen to Taehyun. âI was just trying to load the game back, but I just kept failing. When I was going through the cutscene of Y/nâs backstory, it said that she had a big quarrel with her brother about attending the Magic Tower instead of the Magic Academy, so she ran away and left Eternity on her own.â
âHow did that happen?â Taehyun grabbed Kaiâs phone. On the screen, a picture of a dark haired girl disguised as a young male teenager sitting at an inn, listening to the conversations others were having. Taehyun had not remembered any of their artists showing a storyboard like that in any of their team meetings.Â
âThatâs not the only weird part.â Kai said, taking his phone back. âRemember the villainess was supposed to be powerless?â He paused, waiting for Taehyun to react. âWell, it is said that she developed an ability.â
âWhat is it?â
âShe can turn into an animal at will. More precisely, she can turn into an owl.â

back to masterlist?

"I don't want to be friends with Kim Hongjoong."
Hongjoong's smile faded, splintering like a crack spreading across a porcelain mask. However, he quickly recovered, his eyes shining with tears as the table fell silent.
"Y/n-ah..." Yeonjun started awkwardly, unsure how to salvage the situation. Your father cleared his throat, signaling for the servants to serve the dishes. The silence was soon broken as the dining table came to life with the sound of light, animated chatter.
For some reason, the adults did not want to get involved in this matter. Unbeknownst to you, your three brothers exchanged worried glances, shifting their eyes from you to Hongjoong. You ignored their looks, focusing solely on the food in front of you.
If falling in love with Hongjoong is the reason why Eternity became a broken kingdom, that just gives you more reason to avoid him. Now that you are 'Choi Y/n', there is no way you are going to let the fall of Eternity happen. The characters you see in the game are living and breathing, and even though you've only interacted with your older brothers for a short while, it feels as if you've known them your entire life. How could you still let the same plot from the game unfold?
But why can't you remember who killed Yeonjun?
A small voice at the back of your head nags ominously, whispering that something is wrong, that you have forgotten something very, very important. But what is it? What have you forgotten?
The rest of the dinner went by in a blur. When your plate was clean, you wiped your mouth neatly with the napkin Yeonjun had fetched for you earlier. You got off your seat and turned to your parents.
âThank you for the dinner,â you started, ignoring the piercing gaze of Hongjoong. âI shall excuse myself.â
âAlright,â your father replied, his voice warm yet slightly concerned. Your mother gave a small nod, her eyes filled with unspoken questions. You bowed to the Queen of Mist, who inclined her head to you, and gave a quick bow to Hongjoong.
You felt Hongjoong's gaze follow you as you left the dining room. You walked down the hallway alone, each step echoing in the quiet halls. As you reached your room, you dismissed the servants and closed the door behind you before you leaned against it, taking a deep breath.
Youâre scared.Â
Hongjoong is a good actor. But his crocodile tears did not fool you, not when you knew the plot of Utopia. If you had not known what kind of person he is, you would have fallen into his web of deceits.
Get a grip on yourself, Y/n-ah.

Seonghwa knew that his prince was not in a good mood.Â
He stood behind Hongjoong, watching the prince roll a brooch between his fingers. Hongjoongâs expression was hidden in the darkness of the flickering candle, but Seonghwa knew he was thinking.Â
He couldnât help but wonder why Hongjoong was in such a bad mood. Did something happen at the dinner with the Chois? Seonghwa thought of the dinners he had attended with Hongjoong back at Mist. Anger crept into his thoughts as a strange black mist gathered at the tips of his fingers. Was his prince ridiculed? Did they insult his highness?
âHwa.â Seonghwa cleared his thoughts, his attention immediately shifting to his prince. Hongjoong was looking up at him with a lost expression on his face. âWhat do you know about the Star of Eternity?â
Seonghwaâs fingers curled into a fist. Was the Princess of Eternity the reason for Hongjoongâs mood? He quickly skimmed through his memory, trying to recall what he had heard about the Princess before.
âThere wasnât much news about her, except that the Chois are very protective of her,â Seonghwa replied carefully. Hongjoong looked at the brooch in his hand, a troubled expression on his face.
âProtective?â he repeated, his voice tinged with a manic edge. Suddenly, a crazed smile twisted his lips. Hongjoong laughed loudly, slamming the brooch into the couch. âNo, no, no⊠She saw right through me, Seonghwa-ahâŠâ His laughter turned into unsettling giggles as he spun around to face Seonghwa. His eyes were wild with excitement as he kneeled on the couch, gripping the attendantâs arm with a vice-like hold. âIsnât it exciting, Hwa? Someone who saw through me⊠Even Mother fell for my innocent facadeâŠâ
âYour highnessâŠâ Seonghwa began, his eyes filled with a mix of intrigue and worry.
âSuch an interesting person, the Star of EternityâŠâ Hongjoong muttered, his tone a disturbing mix of fascination and obsession. Seonghwa bowed his head slightly. âDo you know how she looked at me, Hwa? She didnât trust me, not one bit!â Hongjoong sighed dreamily, loosening his hold on Seonghwa. âSheâs not as easy as we thought, Hwa, noâŠâ
âDo you want to get rid of her then, your highness?â Seonghwa asked, treading carefully.
Hongjoongâs smile vanished, replaced by an eerie stillness. His eyes flickered with a dangerous light as he considered Seonghwaâs words. âGet rid of the Star?â he repeated slowly, leaning towards Seonghwa. The older boy immediately let his knee fall to the ground, bowing his head. âMy apologies, your highness-â
The attendant held his breath, bracing for the blow. True enough, a force threw him up in the air and sent him flying backwards into the wall while something sharp grazed his cheeks. Seonghwa let out a groan as he wiped the corner of his bleeding lips, picking himself up. Hongjoong looked at him from the couch, his eyes cold and unfeeling.Â
âHwa.â Hongjoong called. Seonghwa crawled onto his knees, hearing the appending thunderstorm in Hongjoongâs seemingly calm voice. âDo you know why I left Wooyoung back in Mist?â Of course Seonghwa knew why. Wooyoung is Hongjoongâs younger half-brother, a result of the drunken King of Mist, who had forced the Queenâs maid into serving him whilst the Queen had just given birth to Hongjoong. The maid, who is loyal to his mother, had begged for the Queenâs forgiveness, and died shortly after giving birth to Wooyoung.Â
The other royalties looked down on Wooyoung because of his birthing, but the young prince paid them no attention. In fact, Seonghwa thinks that that brat does not see himself as a prince at all. He was always out of the castle, creating havoc and pranks on the other prince and princess.Â
But at the same time, that troublemaker is loyal to Hongjoong. He has no intentions of the throne, and sees Hongjoong as his only master, just like Seonghwa.
âWooyoung is a good boy, but he likes to question my decisions.â Hongjoong answered his own question, picking up the brooch he was previously playing with. âBut Hwa, you know better than to do that, donât you?â
Seonghwaâs breath hitched. âYes, your highness.â He answered.
âGood. Donât let Mother see you in this state, Hwa.â

You frowned at the boy in front of you. Hongjoong stood before you, looking as innocent as a young foal. âGreetings to the Star of Eternity, may peace be ever in your favour.â
âGreetings to the Prince, may peace be ever in your favour,â you replied, setting down your cup of tea. After transmigrating into Y/nâs body, you had retained her memories and most of her behaviours. Y/n would often have a tea session by herself in the Royal Garden of the Eternity Palace, sometimes joined by her brothers if they had the time. However, you had only just started drinking your first cup of tea when Hongjoong barged into the garden with another tall teenager behind him.
At first, you paid no attention to him. The only thought in your mind was to keep Hongjoong as far away from you as possible. âWhat has brought the Prince into my garden?â you questioned coldly, your eyes conveying your dislike. Hongjoong looked a little hurt, his golden eyes staring sadly at you as though you had done something tragically wrong to him.
âWould you let me join you, your highness?â Hongjoong asked, with a hint of cautiousness in his voice. You opened your mouth to refute, but accidentally met the gaze of that boy behind him.Â
Long black hair, green eyes. A strong jawline, sharp cheekbones, and full, plump lips. This was Park Seonghwa, Hongjoongâs loyal attendant.
Park Seonghwa was one of the more popular characters in Utopia. He was a commoner on the streets who had pledged his loyalty to Hongjoong after being saved by him from an illegal magicianâs tower. As an experiment, Seonghwa was different from ordinary men, and his elemental powers included the mysterious mist magic.
There wasnât much detailed description of his display of power that you could remember, but one thing was certain: Seonghwa was not what he seemed to be.
In Jiwonâs route, Seonghwa was an elegant man who could make her blush with the simplest gestures. His charm was undeniable, and he expressed his affection through numerous courting gifts. From delicate roses and precious stones to exquisite clothes and even rare animals, Seonghwa spared no expense in showing his devotion.
One scene stood out vividly in your memory. Seonghwa had presented Jiwon with a precious tiara crafted from the finest amethyst after Mist had conquered Eternity. The tiara was breathtaking, its deep purple stone shimmering with a brilliance that captivated everyone who saw it.
But there was more to the amethyst than its beauty. That stone on the tiara was once part of the crown your father wore. It was the one precious stone that symbolised the enduring power and legacy of your family. Seeing it on the tiara was a stark reminder of the fall of Eternity and the painful loss of your kingdom.
In Y/nâs route, however, Seonghwa is no more than a cruel lapdog of Hongjoong. No matter how many times you have tried to court him, he has not once trusted you. Your brows furrowed at the thought of the amount of currencies you have spent to make choices for Seonghwaâs affection level to just go past fifty percent.Â
Stupid currency, what a scam.Â
âYour highness?â Hongjoong called out, noticing that your attention had swayed from him. His voice, tinged with irritation, cut through your thoughts. He frowned, following your gaze. His jaw tightened when he realised you were staring at Seonghwa, and that his attendant was the one who had distracted you from him.
Hongjoongâs eyes darkened with a mix of annoyance and jealousy. The prince moved swiftly in front of Seonghwa, blocking him from your view. âYour highness,â he repeated, his voice more insistent, drawing your gaze back to him. âMay I join you for a cup of tea?â
You blinked, pulling your thoughts away from Seonghwa and back to the prince in front of you. Most of Hongjoongâs flaming red hair was tucked away into the black beret he was wearing, decorated with rubies. His golden eyes peered out at you from under his fringe, and you shook your head, steeling yourself against his intense gaze.
âYouâre not welcomed here, Prince of Mist.â You said slowly, each word deliberate and firm. âAs I said before, I donât want to be friends with you, so do not come close to me.â
A sudden chill crept up your spine after you have said those words. You hear one of your maids gasp at your boldness, but you didnât care. Behind Hongjoong, Seonghwa could feel his anger rising. How can anyone treat his prince like this? He thought, biting the inside of his cheeks while keeping his head low. His fingers twitched as a small cloud of dark mist began to form around it.
No, he couldnât take this lying down.
But before he could do anything, Hongjoong took a step forward. You straightened your back, your eyes wide with alertness. âMay I have a word with you in private, your highness?â Hongjoong asked, his silky voice laced with forced politeness. âJust this once.â
You gripped the hem of your skirt, your gaze shifting from Hongjoong to Seonghwa. After a moment's hesitation, you nodded. âLeave us,â you commanded, and your maids bowed respectfully to Hongjoong before quietly exiting the garden. Hongjoong was only thirteen years old; what danger could he pose? Besides, you recalled that his powers hadn't developed until he was fifteen. Seonghwa gave Hongjoong a long look, before bowing and leaving as well.
There was a moment of silence when the both of you were finally alone. Hongjoong advanced forwards and you tensed up, gripping the arms of your chair tightly. âDo not come closer, Prince of Mist.â You warned, as Hongjoong paused, his expression unreadable.Â
"I have a question, your highness," he began, his voice steady but with an underlying chill that seemed to lower the temperature around you. "As far as I am aware, yesterday was our first meeting, correct?" Hongjoong's long fingers toyed with a brooch on his collar. "I do not recall having done anything to warrant your dislike, your highness."
"I simply do not like you, Prince of Mist," you said coldly. For a moment, you thought Hongjoong was about to cry. Pools of liquid gathered in his eyes as he stared at you, but the emotion within them told a different story.
Heâs not sad, you realised.Â
And then Hongjoong started to laugh. Tears of amusement rolled down his eyes as he grip the back of another chair for support, his laughter reverberating around the garden. You frowned, not understanding which part of the conversation was funny.Â
But you sensed something was amiss. Hongjoong breathed heavily, wiping the tears from his face. "You amuse me, my Star," he sighed, his intense gaze sending goosebumps along your skin. "You're the first, my Star."
The first person to see through him, the first person to not fall for his mask, and the first person to so blatantly show dislike towards him. Hongjoong licked his lips, and without warning, he pounced on you, leaning dangerously close. Your mouth opened in a silent scream as Hongjoong placed his hands on either side of you, trapping you in the small space of the chair.
âLetâs get engaged, my Star.â His words sent your eyes widening, shocking you. The Prince of Mist slid down towards the floor, kneeling in front of you. His head laid on your lap, his eyes boring into yours. âOur mothers would be elated at this news, no?â
At the mention of your mother, you finally found your strength back. You kicked Hongjoong off you, standing up so fast that the chair was knocked over. Hongjoong fell backwards onto the floor, his snake-like eyes capturing your attempt to escape from him.Â
âIf you come close to me, Kim Hongjoong,â your voice was shaking as you pulled a long hairpin out from your long hair, causing it to fall over your shoulders. Pointing the sharp end of the hairpin at Hongjoong, you tried to control the trembles on your arm. âIâll stab you with this pin. Have I made myself clear?â
Your chest rises and falls quickly as you watch Hongjoong pick himself up, patting off the dust on his clothes. âAs you wish, my Star.â He answered, a smirk playing on his lips. You were aware of the possessiveness in his voice, gripping your hairpin tighter. âBut this isnât over yet, my Star.â
When Hongjoong left, your legs finally gave way and you collapsed in relief. When the maids entered, they were surprised to find you sitting on the ground with your hair untied. As they helped you to your feet, you turned to them with a cold expression. 'Not a word to my brothers,' you commanded. 'If my brothers hear anything about the Prince of Mist's meeting with me, be prepared to face the consequences.â
âYes, your highness.â

a connection once had, broken with the expectation that the ending is final. but life has an odd proclivity of making attachments from detachments. in the end, we don't know what we lost until we look at what we have

It was obvious that Wooyoung didn't want to waste his time helping Mingi but because he would be helping Yeosang's parents in extension, he decided that he needed the brownie points. Sorry, he meant that he needed to be helpful to people he cared about. So begrudgingly, Wooyoung used the card Mingi hid in the shoe rack outside to get in.
The place was just the same as when Yeosang was living there. Of course, he only said so because he forgot he had only been there once when Yeosang invited his friends over to celebrate he (and Mingi) moving in. Wooyoung completely missed the subtle proof of life, or more life, in the apartment.
"Where's the damn thing?" Wooyoung muttered, looking over the dining table and other surfaces in the common area but he couldn't find any box, big or small. It wasn't until he passed Yeosang's room that he noticed a box on his desk, in front of Yeosang's giant computer screen. "Stupid Mingi," Wooyoung grumbled but still walked into Yeosang's room to retrieve the box.
Mingi's instruction was clear, he wasn't supposed to open the box but of course, Wooyoung being Wooyoung, the curiosity got the best of him and he just had to take a peek.
Just as he was about to lift the box, the computer turned on and Wooyoung's gaze immediately shifted to the now functioning screen in confusion. "What the fuck?" he muttered to himself.
At first, the screen turned on and showed a blank black screen save for a single pulsing line and then a text showed up as the line moved from left to right.
'Wooyoung, help me.'
Wooyoung's eyes widened and he took a step back, creeped out at the sudden appearance of the text. "Shit, what the hell?" he gasped just as the words disappeared and another one was retyped. 'Wooyoung, I'm scared, help.' it said. "This is a prank, right? This is a prank," he muttered, trying to convince himself that Mingi had lured him in just to mess with him for whatever reason he might have. "Sick ass fucker thinking he can mess with me, well he's a fucking idiot," he muttered and moved to grab the box from the desk but as he was being distracted, the lights were turned off and the door was slammed shut, causing Wooyoung to yelp loudly. "What the hell!?" The sound didn't only surprise Wooyoung but it made him scared because he was the only person in the apartment. Or so he thought because had he gone into Mingi's room, he'd seen you, Hongjoong, Yunho, and Jongho hiding until Hongjoong quietly got out to slam the door.
The first thing Wooyoung thought to do was to try to open the door by rattling the handle and pushing the door open but it wouldn't budge (courtesy of the four people behind the door).
"Wooyoung."
Goosebumps stood from the back of Wooyoung's neck down his back and Wooyoung felt like the room went cold at the sound of his best friend's voice calling out for him after not hearing it for over a month. Slowly, Wooyoung turned around and when he got a good look of the monitor, his knees buckled and he fell onto the floor as his jaw unhinged but no sound came out.
"Wooyoung help me, help me please," Yeosang pleaded.
The screen showed Yeosang's face up close and he was looking at Wooyoung dead in the eyes with a pleading gaze. "Wooyoung, I thought we were friends," Yeosang spoke in a tone that made Wooyoung's stomach flip. The words circled his brain and penetrated deeply, causing nothing but paralyzing fear. "Wooyoung, were we not friends? What happened?" Yeosang called again.
Perhaps the guilt had eaten through Wooyoung so much so that the next thing he knew, he was openly sobbing with his hands clutching his ears to block any sound (in this case, Yeosang's voice) from passing through. He didn't know until that moment that he was holding onto so much stress from holding onto so many secrets that he simply broke open like a coconut. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry Yeosang, I really am. I didn't mean to cover up Ryu Seungyeon when we were in middle school but she blackmailed me into making a cover story. She had told me she wanted to get (y/n) in trouble but she didn't expect for you to get hurt, believe me! And- a-and y-you, I don't know why but you just HAD to snoop into the past and jeopardize everything! You almost got me in trouble and I just had to stop you! You should've fought me back, you should've not let me drag you to that alley! How was I supposed to know that you'd fall and that you got hurt? Huh? You were the one who went to the gym and all, why did you fall when I pushed you? I should've stayed and helped, I definitely should've, but I didn't want you to keep looking into the past! But you can't blame me on your accident! You can't! I heard about the diagnosis, I heard about you being electrocuted and that's not me, that wasn't me! I'm innocent, I just didn't want things in the past to be revealed. If anything, I'm the victim here! You people had it out for me! You and (y/n) and everyone else, and fucking Ryu Seungyeon. Out of all the things I did though, I did not regret getting (y/n) kicked out because she would've made my life an absolute living hell, especially with grandma. You need to see it from my perspective, you need to understand what I needed and why I needed them. You were caught in the crossfire before but this one, the one you looked into yourself, you butted into issues that didn't concern you and you got yourself hurt. You got yourself hurt and I hated to have been the one to witness it all. We're friends, Yeosang, and we still are. But I can't let you out me so why do you have to go this far?"
Yeosang, still staring Wooyoung down, watched as his friend was reduced to a bumbling mess. The more Wooyoung confessed, the angrier Yeosang became. The betrayal, the hurt, the realization, it was almost all too much for him but he had a role to play so he remained quiet, allowing Wooyoung to simply have the stage as if that was not the default setting with him during their whole friendship. But a little bit closer to that surface, there was concern and sadness over the fact that his friend of over a decade had been holding something that big for so long. The secrets, while horrible, must have not been easy to handle. And not just about his involvement in the incidents but also whatever secret about himself.
In a flash, Wooyoung went from sobbing and screeching to falling out into the living area. The impact was so sudden that it took a moment for Wooyoung to realized that he was released from the room. Dazed and still confused, Wooyoung blinked and sat up, staring at the now black screen in Yeosang's room, expecting Yeosang's face to pop up again but the more he waited, the more anxiety built up inside him. "Fuck this," he huffed in one shaky exhale and he immediately dashed out of the apartment, completely missing the figures emerging from their hiding spots.
Once again, Yeosang popped up on the computer screen, this time looking less sombre and more neutral. "Did we do it? Did you record everything?" He asked, eyeing the figures that were standing outside the room. Yunho walked in and grabbed the box Wooyoung had forgotten to bring, showing Yeosang the recording device they had hidden. He gave him a tight-lipped smile and answered him, "Yup, we got it." While he was glad to hear that Wooyoung's confession was recorded, Yeosang was still in anguish about what he heard Wooyoung say.
At the same time, you stood still in the middle of the living room, glaring at the door with shaky hands and teeth grinding. You had had a feeling that Wooyoung was part of the problem but to hear everything and to hear how he basically used you as a shield just so he could save his own ass was infuriating. It made you feel worthless, unimportant, and sadly, very aware of the reality of how you had always been viewed by your family.
"(y/n)? What's wrong?" Hongjoong asked, catching Jongho's attention who rushed to your side. "(y/n), are you okay?" Jongho asked, adding to Hongjoong's sentiment. You looked up at both of them, trying to formulate a response. Any kind of response. But what you could muster was simply the will to move your body away from them and rush to Mingi's room, locking the door behind you and slid down to the cold wooden floor, gasping for air as the intensity sunk in.
