Shostakovich research update!
Hi all! As many of you know, I'm a volunteer news writer and editor for the DSCH Journal, a bi-annual publication on the life and works of Dmitri Shostakovich. Over the past year, it's been amazing working with them and learning more about my favorite composer, as well as keeping up with international Shostakovich news, such as concerts, music festivals, albums, and more. That's why I'm super excited to announce that the DSCH Journal, with the blessing of Irina Antonovna Shostakovich, is hosting a crowdfunding initiative to have Shostakovich's letters to the composer Nikolai Martynov professionally translated from Russian to English! This is such a fascinating project because there's still so much to learn about Shostakovich, and every primary source allows us to get a more and more complete picture of such an enigmatic historical figure. Making these letters more accessible to a wider pool of researchers and music enthusiasts will help us understand more about Shostakovich, and widen our knowledge of both his life and works. The crowdfunding goal is 1,000 British pounds ($1,274 USD), and donors can receive a range of really neat perks. For just 10 pounds, you can receive a one-year subscription to the DSCH Journal (which includes my work!), and for 25, you can receive the subscription in addition to a high-quality print of an archival Shostakovich photograph from the 1930s. The highest tier is 100 pounds, which will get you the subscription and photograph print, along with a signed biography from scholar Pauline Fairclough (whose work has been very helpful to me!). I'll definitely be donating, because not only do I definitely want that photograph print, it's also so exciting to be a part of bringing Shostakovich research to a wider group of enthusiasts just like myself- and I definitely look forward to the letters as well!
The four most miserable words a person can hear when walking into a Rudy’s Pizza are “We have no tiramisu”
If anyones interested in learning about the first black vampire short story, published in 1819, heres a link to the wiki, its called The Black Vampyre, and its about a former slave turned vampire who seeks revenge on his slave master. Its actually a first in many categories!
I asked my violin teacher, she said it was Elgar’s Cello Concerto, I’m glad I finally found it haha
Hello Classical Music Fans of Tumblr,
I have this piece stuck in my head, I managed to play this part of it on the keyboard but I have no idea what it is. If anyone knows what piece this is please tell me (help).
