ADVAGDHSGFHHJGHHJ THIS MAN IS INSAAAAAANE
The Rings of Power
First off - this show is so much better than half the crap that gets produced, especially by Amazon. The quality is exceptional and so far the writing and world building are really strong.
Secondly - correct, it does not follow aesthetic Tolkien canon. Took me an episode to adjust. I'm over it now because the performances are really, really good, and dismissing the show purely because the elves and dwarves have boring gender isn't a good reason to dismiss it. Criticise that part, but by jove enjoy the rest of it.
Third - the characters are great. I love them. I understand that some people aren't fond of this take on Galadriel, but I'm really enjoying her! She's a character archetype we don't commonly see in women, and Morfydd Clark's performance is incredible. The two dwarven characters, Durin and Disa, were immediately fun and scene stealing. Nori and Poppy are passionate, down to earth and compelling.
I've run out of neatly numerated points, but the show is excellent so far. Too early to tell where it'll end up, but beautiful in it's conception of Middle-Earth and Valinor. I had two lone complaints, regarding Elrond's lack of admission to the council, and Galadriel's bullying by her peers as a child. Both struck me as manufactured and a little silly. But the cinematography and score were so great that I forgot about both elements almost immediately.
If the the inconsistencies bug you - as they did me at the start - then the best bet is to imagine the Rings of Power as Tolkien-adjacent, rather than Tolkien canon. A highly detailed work of fiction set in a parallel world.
This show just shouldn't be ignored for the two or three faults it contains, against the tens of things it does right.
YESSS
this man walks into hellfire every single friday and says "oh thats embarrassing, we've worn the same outfit!" and you cannot convince me otherwise

it just destroys me that wayne and eddie have a recliner and couch on their porch. like it couldn't have just been an issue of space for them- eddie's been with wayne for a while so it's not like he just recently gave up his room and had to find a place for the extra furniture. like how many evenings did they eat dinner out there in the summer? is that where eddie's banished to when he needs to practice and wayne needs to sleep? did wayne sit out there every night after the byers boy went missing to make sure eddie got home safely before heading to work? the fact that it's not just a set of lawn chairs, that it's as comfortable as could be, is such a window into their lives like things might be old and run down but there's still so much warmth
