5 of the worst character mistakes
Hopefully you’re not making any of these mistakes in your novel, and if you are - maybe this post will help in how you can resolve it! ✨.
📌 Here are 5 of the most important ones to be aware of:
✨ No internal goals
A character will inevitably fall flat if they don’t have an internal goal. Achieve an internal goal by giving them something to learn, or a flaw to overcome.
✨ Black & white traits
Unless you’re writing a fairytale, your characters should have both good and bad qualities. Don’t make them too good to make a mistake, and don’t make them so flawed they become annoying.
✨ Fitting character into plot
Never under any circumstance should you force your character into fitting your plot. The plot should be built around your character instead.
✨Everyone is smart & witty
It can get very exhausting if you have a specific character type you love writing, and then the vast majority of your characters share the same traits - like being smart, snappy, and sarcastic. In order to create good relationship dynamics, you need contrast.
✨ Same-purpose characters
If you have an overload of characters in your story, it’s very likely that a few of them share the exact same purpose. Are they both necessary? Can they be merged into one character?
