Some Things I Wish I Knew as a Baby Writer

You can find writing advice of every shape and form online, and most of it will never fit your process entirely.

I wish someone had told me that it's ok to disagree with the advice you see, even if the person is more experienced than you.

I wish someone had told me that writing is part craft part art; there is no right way to build a fictional concept, only tried and tested ways to bring it to life.

I wish someone had told me that it's ok to fail.

So I'm telling all of you this:

Failure is a blessing because we can learn from it

Success is dangerous because it can make us complacent

The joy of creation outweighs the comfort of acclaim

Persistence matters more than talent in most cases

Writing as a hobby and writing as a job are two different beasts, neither is better or worse

The stories you hate most may be your best because they have tried you and frustrated you; we rarely see the beauty in our own faces - our writing is no different.

You deserve to love your stories, but it's not the only way to measure growth.

i think it might actually be beer? but yes. he is very sexy. this is an unflattering cap bc i was assessing the liquid but even at an unflattering angle he still makes me anxioussssss. what a baaaabe!!!

hurt - steadying breaths - overly bobbing head - teary - anger - trembling - pressed lips - insisting everything is 'fine'

lying (ticks) - picking at nails - touching hair - licking lips - laughing too loud - avoids subjects - won't meet eyes

worry - reaching out physically - pursing lips - looking to others - reassuring smiles - looking you up and down - tilted head - sympathetic nod

shame - will not meet eyes - feet turned away - teary - desperate - fidgeting - begging

humiliation - lashes back - cheeks flush - palms turn sweaty - face frowns -> brows scrunch, lips pull back - teary

love - looks for approval - blushing / turning red - clammy palms - nervous around certain people - laughs hard - turning clumsy - slip of thought

i know a lot of people know may 4th to be international star wars day (may the force be with you!!) 

but in my country, it is the anniversary of our liberation from the control and occupation of hitler’s nazi germany. it is the day we light candles and put them in our windows.

when freedom finally arrived on may 4th 1945, the blackout curtains/blinds that people had been forced to use for 5 long years were ripped down from the windows and mass burned in the streets. not only did the countless of “bonfires” light up the streets, where people were hugging and dancing, but every citizen decided to light candles and put them on every window sill in their home, bringing light back into their lives. 

the candles signify a future of brighter day to come as well as deep mourning for the many lives lost.

it has been a tradition ever since ♡ happy may 4th ♡
