mercutio's "a plague o' both your houses" was essentially "fuck You AND You"

You know what I love? People seeing the queerness of Shakespeare’s plays.

Really. Not ‘cause “Straights suck lol” but because back in the days Shakespeare wrote the plays, he could have been jailed for making them gay. So he didn’t. Think about those thousands of queer men and women who had to hide it through history; today is the time to honor them. So queer productions of Shakespearean classics are amazing, because Shakespeare would have wanted it that way. Because I’m ready to bet that if there really is an afterlife, Shakespeare is watching us make Mercutio and Benvolio gay with pride.

Just a theory....

Okay okay so in Romeo and Juliet Mercutio is stabbed on stage and Benvolio takes him off stage, only to enter later saying Mercutio died, right? But what if, Benvolio simply took Mercutio off to some hiding place, patched him up enough so he wouldn’t die, then declared him dead because it was too much for him to take the thought of Mercutio getting hurt again and with all the tension going on it just wasn’t safe. So then he returns with medicine and stuff, nurses him back to health and after like you know all hell breaks loose, they run away together to live out their lives on some beautiful vineyard somewhere. Just think about it.

Romeo: Do you think I can fit fifteen marshmallows in my mouth?

Juliet: You’re a hazard to society

Mercutio: And a coward. Do twenty.

“You are a lover; borrow Cupid’s wings, And soar with them above a common bound.”

— Mercutio, Romeo and Juliet (1.4.15-16)
