Recent updates: - Good news: A group of 30 Israelis and Thai workers were rescued last night by Israeli forces near Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha after being reported missing, three days after Hamas attacked southern Israel. - After strikes took place near the Rafiah crossing point, truckloads with fuel for the terrorists to continue attacking Israeli civilians, that were supposed to enter the strip from the Egyptian side, turned back (after receiving a warning that it will be targed of it entered). - After announcing that Egypt will allow only 2,000 people a day through Rafiah crossing from gaza, Egypt just announced that the Rafiah crossing is closed. At least 1 foreign national was murdered 2 in serious condition in the impact near Talmei Eliyahu - Hof Ashkelon regional council says that at least 4 terorrists were eliminated at Zikim beach  - Hamas threatens a major rocket attack, warns residents of Ashkelon to leave by 5 PM (please don't panic, prepare as always)

After Napolean was on the march through Italy & Egypt, he entered Eretz Israel (occupied then by the Ottoman Turks) in 1799.

He conquered Jaffa. 

And as he approached Acre, he camped and made a remarkable decision that could have changed the course of world history. 

Napolean issued a letter to the Jewish people offering they may return to their homeland & live as a free nation again, under French protection. 

The letter stated, among other things, that it was addressed “to the rightful heirs of Palestine … Israelites, unique nation, whom, in thousands of years, lust of conquest and tyranny have been able to be deprived of their ancestral lands, but not of name and national existence!” 

He went on to tell the “exiled” Jews to “rejoice” because France was offering “Israel’s patrimony!”

Then he exalted the Jews that “now is the moment … to claim the restoration of civic rights the population of the universe which had been shamefully withheld from you for thousands of years, your political existence as a nation among nations, & the unlimited right to worship Jehovah in accordance with your faith, publicly & most probably forever.”  

Unfortunately, this offer could never be accepted or enforced. 

Back then, the Ottoman Turkish Empire was still rather strong, and they sent a mass of troops that sent Napoleon packing.

I've seen a couple of comments, mostly from people abroad, saying things along the following lines. "Why were people at a rave on Shabbat? If they'd been in shul praying they'd have been safe." This is a warning. If anyone makes such a comment on any of my posts or I see them commenting this elsewhere, they will be blocked. I don't care how long we've known each other. Let me clue you in, Sherlock. They came for ALL of us. Not seculars, not Datim, not Haredim. They came for ALL of us. There are Bedouin dead, Druze dead, foreign tourists and workers dead. ALL of us. Maps found on a dead terrorist indicate that they knew right where the synagogues were and proceeded to attack them too, so no, being at prayer didn't save a lot of people either. I've no time for this nonsense.

If you don't live in Israel or consume Israeli media, you don't know who Yair Golan is. He is a 61-year-old retired Major General in the Israel army and a former parliament MP.  Spend a minute to read this story.

Yesterday, when IDF and the police were in complete chaos, Golan put on his old uniform, took his weapon, and drove into the war zone multiple times to rescue civilians under fire. He rescued two young adults hiding under a bush after 260 of their friends were murdered at an outdoor party. He answered a call from a journalist that his son was hiding under fire and simply said, "Give me his location, and I will bring him back home." An hour later, the son called his father from Golan's car. 

Golan collected a small crew and went in and out of the war zone, rescuing dozens of people while exchanging fire with Hamas terrorists. He is 61, he could have stayed home, but he chose to risk his life for people he does not know. 

Golan is one of the strongest voices from the Israeli left and was constantly attacked by the right wing in Israel. But when the time came, he was first fighting the barbaric attack. The same brain wiring that supports peace, is often the same wiring that drives people to do the right thing. 

A true hero.

By the way, he is not the only one. Major General Noam Tivon, also 61, drove from Tel Aviv, joined the troops on the ground and rescued his son and grandkids. He stayed and help the troops fight the terrorists that were still there.
