@sirgeist420 ADD is still used in some places but in the DSM-IV and the DSM-5, which are the two most recent DSM’s, there’s only adhd which is split into three subcategories. You can still get diagnosed with ADD but only with older criteria’s and only in some places. Also i’m not american lol

ADD isn’t a diagnosis anymore, it was replaced by inattentive ADHD ages ago, tho lots of people still refer to it as ADD. But yeah inattentive adhd is still adhd and is as real as hyperactive and combined adhd.

I’m hoping this blog will over time develop its own following, and when it does people will inevitably see my bio and notice what I included: I’m visually impaired.
Yes, a visually impaired writer, and I’ve written with two blind characters before so I have some practice in the field.
So, inevitably, someone is going to ask how to write a blind character.
Or, at least, I hope you’ll ask someone who’s actually blind or visually impaired about writing a blind character before you get too involved with your new WIP.

- hijabis get really excited over pretty scarves - they also like to collect pins and brooches - we get asked a lot of questions and it can be annoying or it can be amusing, just depends on our mood and personality and how the question is phrased - common questions include: - “not even water?” (referring to fasting) - hijabis hear a lot of “do you sleep in that?” (we don’t) and “where is your hair?” (in a bun or a braid, usually) - “is it mooze-slim or mozzlem?” (the answer is neither, it’s muslim, with a soft s and accent on the first syllable) - “ee-slam or iz-lamb?” (it’s iss-laam, accent on the first syllable) - “hee-job?” (heh-jahb, accent on the second syllable)
- “kor-an?” (no. quran. say it like koor-annn, accent on the second syllable) - people tend to mess up our names really badly and you just get a sigh and a resigned nod or an awkward smile, maybe a nickname instead - long hair is easy to hide, short hair is harder to wrap up - hijab isn’t just covering hair, it’s also showing as little skin as possible with the exception of face, hands, and feet, and not wearing tight/sheer clothing - that applies to men too, people just don’t like to mention it ( i wonder why) - henna/mehendi isn’t just for special occasions, you’ll see people wearing it for fun - henna/mehendi isn’t just for muslims, either, it’s not a religious thing - henna/mehendi is not just for women, men also wear it, especially on their weddings - there are big mehendi parties in the couple of nights before eid where people (usually just women and kids) gather and do each other’s mehendi, usually just hands and feet - five daily prayers - most muslim kids can stutter through a couple verses of quran in the original arabic text by the age of seven or eight, it does not matter where they live or where they’re from or what language they speak natively - muslim families tend to have multiple copies of the quran - there are no “versions” of the quran, there has only ever been one. all muslims follow the exact same book - muslims have no concept of taking God’s name in vain, we call on God at every little inconvenience - don’t use islamic phrases if you don’t know what they mean or how to use them. we use them often, inside and outside of religious settings. in islam, it is encouraged to mention God often and we say these things very casually, but we take them very seriously - Allahu Akbar means “God is Greatest” (often said when something shocks or surprises us, or if we’re scared or daunted, or when something amazing happens, whether it be good or bad; it’s like saying “oh my god”) - Subhan Allah means “Glory be to God” (i say subhan Allah at the sky, at babies, at trees, whatever strikes me as pleasant, especially if it’s in nature) - Bismillah means “in the name of God” and it’s just something you say before you start something like eating or doing your homework - In Shaa Allah means “if God wills” (example: you’ll be famous, in shaa Allah) (it’s a reminder that the future is in God’s hands, so be humble and be hopeful)
- Astaghfirullah means “i seek forgiveness from Allah” and it’s like “god forgive me” - Alhamdulillah means “all thanks and praise belong to God” and it’s just a little bit more serious than saying “thank god” (example: i passed my exams, alhamdulillah; i made it home okay, alhamdulillah) - when i say we use them casually, i really mean it - teacher forgot to assign homework? Alhamdulillah - our version of “amen” is “ameen” - muslims greet each other with “assalamu alaikum” which just means “peace be on you” and it’s like saying hi - the proper response is “walaikum assalam” which means “and on you be peace” and it’s like saying “you too”

Hello, hope all of you are safe and doing well.
You may have heard of what happened in Lebanon today and if not, basically, there was a big explosion in Beirut that affected many cities, destroyed shops, homes, cars, caused many injuries and deaths. The cause is uncertain.
As a fellow lebanese myself (that also lives there), today was absolutely terrifying, probably the scariest moments of my life. We heard a deafening sound as the floors were shaking. Some of us thought it was an attack, others thought it was an earthquake. As soon as it ended many expected a second one, which luckily never happened.
Here's a video of what happened that was sent to me, there are also many others that you can find online.
Windows were broken, doors wrecked, cars flipped over, buildings collapsed, people hit by flying or falling objects, and unfortunately, many didn't make it out alive.
We were one of the lucky ones, our families and friends were all safe and our homes were fine.
Some people couldn't even get out of the crumbling builings, so we saw corpses being pulled out, although some people survived the crash. But wherever we looked, there was blood, poeple were half covered in it, their shirts, pants, hair, everything. And that sight was traumatizing.
We watched the news with elders severely injured, children with blood-spattered shirts and people in pain that couldn't get in the hospitals because they were full.
Some people are missing. Just try to imagine the pain and fear their families and friends are feeling.

Not only are we in the middle of a pandemic, but Lebanon is also going through a very serious economical crisis. To give you an example, before, $1 equaled 1 500 lebanese pounds. Nowadays, $1 equals more than 7 000 lebanese pounds. Not to mention that we obviously don't have any dollars at disposition, so yeah we're fucked.
People are hungry, homeless, unemployed. And even if they are getting paid, it'll be useless since the prices of everything went up because they were affected by the economical fiasco.
Important additional information
Today, I heard my 7 year old cousins scream in fear that they were going to die. I saw my aunt shaking, worried that her children won't survive. I saw my dad freak out while trying to reassure us when we both knew that we were uncertain about the next minutes of our lives. I heard the panic in the trembling voices of my family and friends as they couldn't believe what had just happened. I thought my loved ones and I were going to die in the next seconds.
I'm never forgetting those moments and feelings.
I don't think signing petitions will help, i don't even know if the following links will help either, I just know Lebanon and it's people are desperate for anything because the future of this country is extremely uncertain.

Having a white (and coloniser-race-coded) character usurp said disabled LGBT PoC in terms of ability and authority when he really didn’t actually do anything in the narrative worthy of taking over
Keith stealing the cathartic “I have risen above what you did to me” and badass victory moment of Shiro over Sendak and instead pushing a narrative of “he will always need someone to come save him” BITCH?? GLADIATOR CHAMPION??
In general just giving Keith all the bells and whistles (he gets to have 2 years of bonding with his mum, he gets a cool pet space wolf, he becomes a BoM and BP, etc, etc) and stealing development from other characters (so many of his lines were clearly written for Shiro) to the point that I actively disliked him
Treating Kuron as just a wholly evil thing despite him expressing emotions including fear and guilt and eventually just basically using him as a soulless vessel
Never finding out anything at all about Shiro’s family, despite the fact that every other major character (except Coran I guess, but even then we got stories about his grandfather and his time with Alfor) had their entire family shown on screen
The Lion Swap remaining permanent leading to some truly unpleasant colour combinations, and also tearing up any importance of the personal paladin bond that had been so crucial in the first 2 seasons
Not making Allura, the one person who is explicitly linked to all the Lions and the one in charge alongside or even above Shiro, the new Black Paladin
Having Allura’s only other explicit love interest be a member of the coloniser race who was also personally committing atrocities at the time
Not having Hunk and Pidge develop past s2. Like… what did they do, character arc wise? How did they change?
Letting the woman who almost completely destroyed reality itself get to live out in a happy fantasy with her husband and son
That entire scene with Shiro’s new arm. It was ugly. It did not need to hurt him. Allura had to give up her last remnant of her home planet and authority.
Not seeing Shiro’s bayard form (it! should! have! been! his! new! arm!!)
Scrapping the explicitly romantically-framed dynamic between Allura and Shiro and thereby ruining their team-leader positions (which were stolen from them) even more
Trivialising every Voltron-related achievement Allura/Shiro ever managed by making everyone super-duper-linked paladins out of nowhere instead of slowly developing it over time like they started off doing in s1 (and s2 a bit)
