Soop Edits
So I've noticed there have been some people saying that they're not happy with the way this season of Soop has been edited and then there have been people saying 'you're just mad the jikook moments got cut' or 'you're viewing through shipping goggles, it's OT7 content' and I would just like to make this to point out these little details.
So first off, I kind of agree, this season of Soop is a little all over the place, members disappear for long stretches of time and we have no idea where they are or what they're doing, and for those saying they were probably spending time alone, it's for their privacy, I'd like to discuss other BTS shows. Bon Voyage, ITS 1 for example, yes there were times when members weren't around but it was either for a short period or we got a simple yet justified explanation like 'Jin went for a walk around Bergen on his own', or 'Suga stayed back to work on music', or for the ITS1 they would show Suga in his van on his computer and even though we obviously weren't allowed to see what exactly he was doing, we still knew where he was and a general idea of what was going on.
Also when we would be shown a member or a couple of members doing one thing (like LEGO) we'd then be shown what the others were doing at the same time (like JK playing guitar or V in the canoe) so we knew what was occurring and most importantly when it was occurring, which is kind of necessary for a cohesive show.
So far on ITS2 members have completely been MIA from content then showed back up and we're left thinking, 'wait weren't you last playing games on the computers? Why are you now coming from the bedrooms? How much time has passed?' It's very jarring to watch.
And now we'll get to the editing. So we were shown content in the trailer, I won't talk about the jikook pictures we've gotten but I am going to discuss the trailer videos that haven't been shown. Now I understand why they could have cut some of the jikook stuff we were looking forward to from the trailer, the night time work out (they were likely a little drunk or tired and playing around, remember the jikook drunk night content was only in the behind from ITS1 so understandable that it was cut), the scene of JK behind Jimin rubbing his shoulders, this was either from when they were watching the Olympics (and once again understandable to cut a small scene like that) or it was from after an entire scene we never got at all, which is where i'll start adding the picture of all the scenes from the trailers that we haven't gotten yet. Now I will say, these moments might happen in the next episode or in the Behinds but as of right now nothing has been shown.

The whole content surrounding this has been cut, Jin and Jimin riding the ATV's, based on Jimin's clothes, I'd say it happened the first day but idk (once again it may be yet to come), so the jikook scene that was cut may have been directly after this and since they cut this out, of course they'd cut out the scenes following it where they mention what happened.

Then we get to a few other scenes from the trailer that either haven't happened yet or were cut, i'll start with the ones I think were cut then go the ones I think will happen in the last episode.

So, we've got J-Hope playing Tennis, this was right before Jikook started playing I think, we only saw Hobi watching them from the seat. Then Jin on the ATV again, same day as when he was with Jimin so yeah that whole thing was cut, despite being in the trailer. Hobi with his camera from I think the second day? Maybe third, this was clearly when he gained all his polaroid's that he showed Jimin when they were doing footspas. We have Jin and JK hanging out in the lounge eating pears (sorry Jin there was no good screenshot, the others have your mouth wide open). Also a scene of JK doing flips on the trampoline (I couldn't add the pic cause of limits) not when he was with JM and V but alone that must have happened either on another day or before they joined him. Then there's an extended scene were JK comes out of the camper van after recording to joke around with RM and Suga, now this could have been cut because they were discussing the album but they only cut the volume when RM and Suga were talking about it and then why add it to the trailer if you knew you couldn't use it?
Lastly there were four scenes I think will show up next episode (I've hit the image limit so you'll have to take my word), I'm certain the fireworks scenes will as that was in the promo from last week, then some scenes of them around the table eating. Two separate times so probably breakfast and lunch, then dinner at the RV. And there is also a scene with Jin and Hobi using sparkles which I assume will happen next episode before the fireworks and based on Hobi's outfit will also be apart of the scenes from the teaser last week of him and Jimin cooking on the BBQ.
Now based on all this I have to wonder (apart from the stuff that will happen next episode) why did they cut all these scene, especially when a bunch of them contained the boys doing stuff, like JM and Jin riding the ATV's? They were safe enough for the trailer but not the official content?
I get there's a bunch of reasons cuts are made, privacy, to condense an episode, to stop spoilers, but the amount of cuts this season make the show feel very hard to follow as there are huge chunks of time when members are just not on screen and we get no explanation of where they were or what they were doing, even when these images from the trailer show they were only hanging out and enjoying their break, like why can't that just be shown a little so we know 'oh for this whole three hour period Jin wasn't just alone in his room, he was hanging out with Jimin'?
And you can also add the constant 'flashbacks' into the mix of confusing and jarring editing choices because they are not helping things. Last episode we learnt the members watched the Olympics on the first day. Why didn't they just show us, them watching the Olympics when they watched it? We also learnt over the previous days they'd been making their paintings, we were only show RM doing his painting real time, Tae, JK and Hobi were all shown in flashbacks so we have no idea what day they did them or when during the day.
I don't think it's malicious or intentional to 'hide' pairings or secrets I just think whoever edited this season is taking a completely different route and it's very confusing for me, as a viewer, to keep up with a timeline of events.
Don't get me wrong, I will still watch ITS2 multiple times, and I just might have to, to piece together any sort of timeline, but that's kind of the problem, I shouldn't need to investigate to know when things happened on a show.
BTS In The Soop (Season 2)
I don’t know how other fans have been feeling about ITS s2, but, personally, I’m not the biggest fan. I enjoy watching the episodes, but I also feel a bit indifferent towards the series as a whole. I think part of the reason why is that it airs on JTBC. I felt this with s1 as well, but BTS almost don’t feel like BTS. We see them be playful and touchy with each other, but it also feels like their playfulness, silliness and skinship is toned down a lot. If we think about Run BTS, Bangtan Bombs, BTS Episodes, Memories footage, vlives, etc. they paint a different picture of BTS. Even when we have longer footage of them, their intimacy is obvious. In ITS, their closeness is there, of course, but overall they feel more distant from each other than usual, and I feel a bit distant from them as a result.
For example, we saw from the teasers and the official pics that Jikook rode the ATV together, and worked out together, and JK gave JM a massage. Why is that content not in the episodes? We have Taekook riding the ATV together, so I can understand that Jikook doing it would feel repetitive. Pls do not think I’m making this a Taekook vs. Jikook thing. Under no circumstances am I doing that. What I mean to say is that certain footage can’t air if it’s just a repetition of what we’ve seen already, but most of the episodes are pretty much an eating show.
Jikook working out is something the fans would’ve loved to see; BTS playing games together like in Run is something that fans would’ve loved to see. Yet every time they play sports we only get to watch a fraction of it… Instead, we get a lot of footage of them cooking and eating. I know fans like to watch BTS cook, but isn’t it a bit excessive? An episode is supposed to represent a day, but half of the episode are the few hours they spend in the kitchen. I personally got bored watching this last episode (episode 4) because they all had lunch separately and we watched all of them make their food and eat it. I would’ve loved to have seen more of BTS playing volleyball, or Vminkook’s ridiculous challenge, or OT7 watching the Olympics.
My point is that I doubt ITS would be edited like this if it weren’t airing on JTBC. We’d probably be getting more OT7 content in that case. But since this is a family friendly show, as it often happens when BTS makes content more geared toward the Korean GP, we get a cooking show.
