Uses of Ashes in the Creation of Talismans

The incense ash from specific rituals tends to bear a resonance to that specific ritual, making it useful in the production of various items further. This does need to be taken into consideration with additional aspects such as the actual ingredients of that incense in the case that is was being used to infuse water, for example, with healing or love in which case it wouldn't be useful to include a herb that shouldn't be ingested or that the person would have a reaction to. Alternatively, Ashes have a use in the making of talismans, which makes them useful for carrying on petitions and rituals over a longer period.

For example, a ritual for prosperity which made use of a prosperity incense or a blessing incense could make use of that ash to create a talisman for drawing prosperity, thus a reasonably short offering rituals becomes a long-term benefit. The way that the incense ash is used would depend on what is to be done with it.

One way to use it is in bathing or libation of talismans. It could be mixed with water and used to soak, bless and libate an talisman. A wealth incense could be mixed with Sun Water, Holy Water or an Elixir prepared under a corresponding planet such as Jupiter, Mercury or Sol. It can then be mixed with that water and poured over something such as a necklace or ring.

Another way is to mix it with a small amount of water to create a paste. This paste can then be used to seal talismans. If one were to take the paste, they can then mark the talisman with it

An adaption of the above is to use a little more water infused with a resin, Gum Arabic is traditionally used, and a brush to actually paint and write the talisman itself. One could also theoretically take the ashes and mix them into water and use the water for watercolour or water-based pigments in order to do the same.

The incense ash may be used in the construction of other items. One may possibly incorporate the art of paper making to create a parchment, even a small one, for the talisman paper itself, or to create a seal. A solar incense used during a devotional ritual to the Sun, for example, could be mixed with water and then the pulp, which is then taken and left to dry. The paper can then be shaped into form and used to create a Solar Pentacle.

Although not explicitly talisman based, the ashes can be added to oil to infuse it with the resonance from the ritual to create a sort of semi-resonant magical oil. When the incense is burnt and offered to the Divine, or used in rituals, there is an exchange of energy between the Spiritual World that receives it and the incense. The incense also tends to attract the appropriate forces, acting as a space tuner in some rituals with most temples making use of auspicious incense like Frankincense and Myrrh. The incense ash thus holds that ability in its ashes, maybe a bit more purer now that gross material has been burnt or reduced. Calcination works to purify the plant materia into its purest mineral elements. In a similar way, the usage of the incense holds the purer spiritual elements which makes it more useful, not to mention it's easier to actually use a powdered ash rather than an entire plant material or incense stick or powder.

My favorite simple wards to guard the home

Hanging rosemary above the doorstep, and/or above doors of the house for protection.

Sprinkling a line of dried red pepper on a windowsill, to counter a curse.

Placing a mix of dried & ground eggshells and black pepper in every corner of a room to keep out unwanted spirits.

Placing a decoration representing a witch in the kitchen, to keep away illness and to favor health.

Crafting an effigie (no matter how crude!) and make it into the guardian of your home by charging it with your intent of protection and placing it near the front door.

Crafting small witch ladders to hang around the house.
