summary:
Whrain Ashland is a sell sword in a time of raging war and dying magic. Seemingly destined to be the notorious orphaned hero, he turns his back on his past and all dreams of glory.
Instead he becomes what everyone expects him to be… a monster. Ruthless, sadistic and utterly conscienceless, he is the perfect tool.
Traveling with his very own band of mercenaries, he lives by a single rule: Get the job done. Move on to the next.
Having an unbelievably high success rate and the reputation of staying loyal to his current employer whatsoever, Whrain soon attracts the attention of a very desperate princess.
In exchange for a fortune, Whrain and his comrades are expected to break into the most feared prison of the known world and smuggle a group of aristocrats into an occupied city. Looking at it, the payment doesn’t align with the terms, but if that’s the price of freedom, so be it.
Just one last job, right?
But when the real motives of his client are revealed, and his past catches up to him, Whrain faces the bitter truth: He has more to lose than to gain in this bargain.
Set in medieval times, where only an ember of magic is left, and new technologies are on the rise, we follow Whrains story through his early years as an orphan, novice and later on assassin, before he becomes the leader of the countries most infamous group of mercenaries. The Kings Shadows.

Okay I just finished truthwitch and I am so hooked by this series can't wait until the other books arrive!
Oh and big shout out and thank you @laciev7gzb for sharing her faceclaim for Iseult with me. ❤️
Like es, wenn du auf #ruinofkings stehst, reblogge es, wenn du auf #nightangel stehst.

A prisoner chatting with his monstrous captor.
A burglar stumbling upon a secret better left buried.
A royal heir sold into slavery, captured by a dragon.
Kihrin is all of them and though his story has three different beginnings it can only end one way and it's unlikely he will be alive to witness it.

Normally I don't post book reviews on my Tumblr but I finished the ruin of kings on the weekend and I haven't recovered since.
I dove headfirst into this tale, unsure what to expect and though it started out as a epic fantasy novel it evolved into so much more after the first hundred pages.
Kihrin is a character you either hate or love and in my case I just adored him my little sunshine deserves all the love in the world and a time out. Honestly give this boy a break.
This book comes with a whole set of complex characters, including the protagonist and every antagonist he has to face of... Honestly there isn't a single character who's motives didn't make him the hero of his own tale.
So huge shoutout to Jenn Lyon for not only providing me with my favorite read of 2019. But also writing an finishing arc that left me breathless on a Sunday night when I was supposed to prepare for school!
To every fantasy fan out there who is sick of stereotypical characters, go and buy this masterpiece you won't regret it... And those books really deserve a Fandom!
