The two of you are a couple no one would expect; Knowing Henry’s racism, and his harsh personality. However, that didn’t stop him from getting in a relationship with you. At first, Henry was a jerk due to his racism. He did manage to lighten up on some of his racist comments when the two of you started dating. It made him smile knowing that if he did terrible things, you would be turned on. The thought of being rewarded for doing something he did to cool off his anger, it turned him on. This made Henry want to hurt others more, so he could get some extra loving from you. Henry likes that you cling onto him at times, really boosts that ego of his. However, Henry really dislikes the high maintenance standards you have. Only reasons, he can’t meet them, and his sexist side comes out for an opinion. Its a bonus that you cook and clean, not only because he can’t do these activities, again, his sexism believes a good woman does these things. Henry would never confess to it, and would take forever to be down, but he likes cuddles. Of course, he always makes it turn into more. The cute part of your relationship, him stealing things for you. Cutest thing he has done, him carving your names into the bridge.

You tend to be sexual during the bad times with Henry. Usually when he is in a bad mood and is hurting some kid, you will start being sexual. Your a good person, but Henry just manages to have his actions slide past you. When Henry is ignoring you or just not giving you enough attention, you will go out of your way to make him jealous. His jealously is basically just him demanding why your doing what your doing and him retrieving you. Henry will also make sure that everyone knows you belong to him, and will hurt anyone who doesn’t know. Whenever you bake something or cook, you always leave some for Henry. Never make it look like your pitying him though, he would decline your treat so quick. Henry doesn’t know to show you off or to hide you away. He wouldn’t want his father knowing about him dating, and for certain someone who was not the basic white girl. Maybe he would make an exception since you know how to cook and clean.

Henry actually does care about you, and would admit it through his actions. The ways he does show his love, how he actually tries to not make you hate him. Henry would do things that you liked, that doesn’t make him look soft of course. Only says he loves you when he realizes you are there for him. Its out of the blue, but he’s been planning on saying it for weeks. Henry tells you when the two of you are doing something sweet. Your off eating some baked goods you made, and he would say it softly. That would be the only time he was soft and expressed his feelings.

The dull creaks and groans of the old Kissing Bridge serenades you and your husband as you two venture through your childhood town under pale moonlight. You share in laughs of forgotten memories buried deep within your subconscious, left to rot had your boss not relocated your office branch to the quaint town.

Walking hand in hand with your husband you find yourself content looking at the weathered fence that bears the scars of teenage antics in the form of names and hearts and the less endearing hate speech that should have died in the 80’s. All juvenile.

“How is it you’re only now remembering this stuff?” You husband laughs, tugging you closer towards him.

“I don’t know.” You answer honestly, looking at the ghosts of lovers past. “After leaving this place I just—never thought to remember it.”

It sounds strange now that you’ve said it out loud; an almost bittersweet thing to think about. A whole childhood lost simply because you moved on.

“Nothing?” Your husband presses. “Not your house or school? What about friends? Best friends?” A pause. “Boyfriends?”

You think, making that scrunched up face he loves to mock you for. A hazy face of a boy comes to mind but it’s nothing solid or tangible. It was the type of image that would fade away if you concentrated too hard. But a name sticks to tip of your tongue.  Only falling off in a soft whisper when you past by a familiar heart. “Henry
