Windswept Wanderings

Vitruvius (from The Lego Movie) really understood the fundamental operating principles of the universe.  Proof?  The secret knock.

That is such a dramatic picture of him!  He does such a fantastic job in Sherlock, and seems like an overall nice guy.  Kudos on your fandom.

We Are Proud To Share With You Today The Work Of Catlaina Vrana! She Has Written A Book To Educate Others

We are proud to share with you today the work of Catlaina Vrana! She has written a book to educate others about autism and generously agreed to publish a few excerpts to our sites and blogs. This is the first of three excerpts!

Catlaina has published two books, and written a graphic novel. She is autistic and cognitively disabled, and loves spreading information on neurodiversity. Her favorite advocacy network is ASAN, and her special interests include Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood and number sequences.

Sarah looked thoughtful. “Hey Ella, do you have any puzzle piece ribbon? I want to wear it on my wrist so I can show that I like autistic people.” I shook my head no. “Doncha like puzzle pieces? I thought that was for autism?” I ran over to my drawer and pulled out my watercolor painting I was working on. It was of a rainbow infinity sign.  That’s my favorite autism symbol. I showed it to Sarah and I tapped on my AAC to explain. “No. Puzzle. To. Fix. ” “Ella means that she doesn’t like puzzle pieces,” my mom said. “Why?” I typed again: “No. Solve. Puzzle.” “Oh! I get it! Like you are a whole puzzle already!”

“That’s right, Sarah! Ella is a whole person. Even if she thinks differently, she is all there. Ella is just like other girls, she just does things in a different way. She likes to play and laugh and color and learn, just like you. There isn’t any part of Ella that is missing.  Ella likes the rainbow infinity sign because it shows that everyone’s way of thinking is different, and that’s ok. Her sign says  ‘Nothing about us, without us’- that’s a disability rights slogan. That means that sometimes, when people want to help ‘Auties’ like Ella, they forget to listen to those who actually have the condition.”
