thinking about how genius it was to give the name ‘persuasion’ to a novel where every character is constantly trying to persuade each other, in a time when society would try to persuade people to follow the rules & where one’s personal wishes had to be left behind in order to fulfill the expectations that social norms had set for everyone; but mostly, a novel where the characters are constantly trying to persuade themselves of what they should feel in contrast to what they really feel.

but yeah jane austen totally wrote EXCLUSIVELY about romance.

Life doesn't have to be spectacular to be spectacular. One time, me and a friend went to the grocery store together. Every time I go to the grocery store, I sniff a few candles (because I'm practically nose blind and the concentrated scents are just delightful to me). Anyways, this friend was shocked by this and was like "excuse me?? you are?? smelling??" and so I was like "its?? free?? real estate??"

She had never done this before. Never realized that smelling candles in target is legal, that you can Actually Do That with no repercussions. And so we smelled every goddamn candle in that store, because we could and because it brought us joy. And it was delightful. Life doesn't have to be spectacular to be spectacular.

I love that word. Forever. I love that forever doesn't exist, but we have a word for it anyway, and use it all the time. It's beautiful and doomed.
