Unpacking Witchcraft - Spell Types

A spell is a manifestation of intents, ingredients, and influences combined to bring about an intangible effect. However, there are a number of different of types of spells, intents, and methods.

image

CURSE— A spell designed to cause a person or place harm or misfortune of a grand scale. Occasionally used to protect when it used against a concept, “cursing out” infections and medical problems.

HEX— Commonly thought as similar to a curse, though it comes from a German word for witch. Commonly interpreted as a weaker curse, or a midpoint between a jinx and a curse on a scale of annoying to devastating.

JINX— A spell to cause momentary bad luck or annoyance, but can occasionally come back to bite someone later. Usually paired with irony, or used to bring about the opposite effect of what someone says out loud or hopes for.

BANISHING— A type of spell, designed to get rid of something specific, whether it be a concept, a person, spirit, or otherwise, and to keep it away.

WARDING— A type of protective spell in which you create and put up magical walls, usually against a specific thing, such as spirits or negative people, but could be used for evangelicals and teenagers that theoretically loiter on your lawn.

BINDING— Similar to banishing. Instead of removing a person, object, or situation from your vicinity, you prevent a person or creature from performing a particular action.

GLAMOUR— Often used for beauty spells, are a type of spell used for creating an illusion over a person or object. They can be used for a number of purposes, to make someone more attract, or to make an object harder to find, or a person be more or less likely to be noticed.

CONSECRATION— The ritual blessing of an object or place by cleansing it and instilling with a specific energy. Cannot be done to living creatures.

POTION— Any drink made to have a magical effect.

JAR SPELL— A spell made and contained within a jar, often herb sealed with wax.

these are just a few types, feel free to add your own!

Science is important.

I love spirituality, I love witchcraft, but we need to make something very clear.

Science and medicine cannot and will not ever be something that witchcraft can replace.

You still need to get vaccinated.

You still need to go to your therapist.

You still need to get antibiotics.

You still need your cancer treatments.

You still need your check ups.

You still need to believe scientists.

Do not fall into the trap that witchcraft will cure physical illnesses like Covid, diabetes, fibromyalgia, or anything else like that. It will not, and you need to take care of yourself.

Astrological Timing

[Thank you so much for the hearts, reblogs and welcome to my new readers! Y'all made my last post explode, I can't-]

In my not-so-long experience as a Strega, I've had some spells work fantastically and some other backfire in the worst possible way. I'm talking exploding in my face. I'm talking I felt like I almost hexed myself.

As I found out the other day, that there's a thing called ✨ Astrological Timing ✨ and apparently that if you fuck that up, it can really mess with your spells.

[me, a dumbass that hexed with no idea of astro timing -> 🤡]

For me personally, everything astrological is a headache. I don't hate it, I just don't get it and it makes me confused and anxious. Astro timing is NOT like full astrology, it's a lot easier and simpler to deal with.

Now, I'm not going to tell you to wait until every single planet and constellation is in a favorable aspect, but it's good measure to at least check if the planets are in an opposite aspect: if I'm working a spell on communication, at least Mercury and Gemini have to be in a good place. Also check on Mars and Saturn and their respective signs, Aries and Capricorn, to make sure they're not opposing.

Once you have a good idea on what's going on, you can weigh up the situation: do the good aspects outweigh the bad aspects? If so, you can work the spell with an extra layer of safety and a "stellar boost".

Note: Astrological Timing is ONE of the variables you need to check, ALWAYS make sure to have the others covered up, especially DIVINATION on your target. Even if you're trying to hex the mugglest muggle on Earth, they could still have some sort of natural barrier or shield. Also, protection spell on yourself never hurts, I do it periodically, like once a month or so.

Following, you'll find two pages straight from my Grinoir [let me know if this qualifies as a dad joke or if I'm just cringy af]; these are spreadsheets of information about Zodiac signs and Planets.

Astrological Timing

The source of all of this precious knowledge is the book "Planetary Spells & Rituals" by Raven Digitalis, published by Llewellyn. This book contains not only all the info above, but also a bunch of very useful spells! I think it's a little Wicca-ish but I may be wrong, and the info it's still legit.

To check the current planets and astrology transits and all that stuff, you can check sites like:

Astro-Seek -> shows regular chart + transits like conjunctions and stuff. PHENOMENAL COSMIC INFORMATION in a tiny living space

The Planets Today -> has a graphic thingy that shows the planets! it's so cool! Under the graphic thingy there's a list of each planet showing which sign they are currently in, whether they are in a retrograde motion, and what will happen to them next. But most importantly if you click the little arrows on the top it lets you see the movements of the planets hour by hour.

Astrodienst -> shows a basic chart, but if you click on "chart of the moment" you'll get a regular chart, with all the transits that you can immediately download as a PDF

[See ya in the next post, Witches! ❤️]
