hi

"What the hell is that thing, Charlie? Why is it on the bar?"
"Wh-what what do you mean what is it? It's-he's-"
"Look at it, Dee, it's Glep"
"It's Glep, dude!"
"What the fuck is a Glep?!?!?"

in light of recent events, i have decided to draw some of my favourite characters reaction to such an event
horrendously low-quality screenshots of the Balladeer from Assassins just sitting in places

Bonus:

the one time there's actually a chair present, it's already occupied

and then he nearly fucking falls over once Byck pulls it away
When people ask me what my favorite musical is, I say “Assassins” because
1) It’s true
2) I then introduce someone to the fact that Sondheim was unhinged enough to write it
My Favorite Musicals (Part 1 of 10...maybe.)
I choose Sondheim and Weidman’s Assassins as my favorite because I think it opened my eyes to the fact that not all musicals had to follow a certain type of plot and story line.

I met the show in college (1996-2000.) We did Unworthy of Your Love and Gun Song in a musical revue for our musical theater class. I didn’t sing either of them (I’m not much of a singer,) so I owe a great deal to the performances my friends were doing. The songs were great, and the performances were fun. This was only part of the show? I had to learn more.
My security password for the next two years became Guiteau, the security team at my college couldn't spell it or pronounce it. Such is fame.
I bought the script from the Broadway Circle on a trip over the summer. I’m not sure when I got the CD or where it was from. I bought the vocal book from Colony a few years later. I convinced a friend to use some of Byck’s passages for a monologue competition he participated in.

I listened to the original recording with Terence Mann, Victor Garber, Jonathan Hadary and the rest a lot. I mean a lot a lot. I still do.
I saw the show on Broadway, the 2004 revival… And I, against conventional wisdom, used my playbill as a Show and Share with the kindergarten class I was teaching at the time. Not a shining moment explaining presidential assassination to 5-year-olds. The show affected me so much, I just had to talk about it.

The Studio 54 production was the first inclusion of Something Just Broke that I had encountered. I love the concept for the song, the time was just bad because it really inserted itself into the musical transition I had come to know and love from my repeated listening to the original cast recording.
Showing the Zapruder film on Oswald was a masterstroke and the scenic design was on point. Viewing the Proprietor through the animalistic portrayal of Marc Kudisch was eye-opening from a directorial choice perspective.

Overall, I still love Assassins and while it’s been a conversation for me to direct it at two of my local venues, the opportunity continues to elude me.
Of note, I have always had a fascination with the Lincoln assassination and the sinking of the Titanic because they happened around my birthday. I know on some level it plays into me love for this show.
Favorite Song: Ballad of Guiteau (Naturally. 😉)
Song I Sing the Most: Everybody's Got the Right to Be Happy (I have a t-shirt!)

you’re telling me this little doe eyed guy shot the president
what is blud babbling about 😭💀💀💀
me when musical characters are desperate

"i'm gay" "i'm straight" ok?? have you considered that i got this really great gun?? shit where is it
hey so the choir kids died on september 14 the same day that president william mckinley was shot and killed by second generation polish immigrant leon czolgosz in buffalo, new york and that means that assassins the musical and ride the cyclone are both in the same universe. in this essay i will
bitches be like I don’t believe in violence to solve any problems and then go listen to a musical about killing presidents for two hours
if any of my musical theatre mutuals haven't listened to assassins yet this is what you're missing out on
