- he’s always been into performing, singing, and especially dancing

- sometimes you’d stay behind at school and watch him do taekwondo + dancing

- and while he was student body president, you were the president of broadcasting too!

- you loved to talk to others and be in front of a camera and also wanted to make your own padcast, but never really knew how

- so you two were definitely in communication because of your positions!

- and… drum roll please… jungwon gets a little crush on you

- let’s just say he started thinking about you whenever you started morning broadcast for the school… or when you announced his name and his plans as student body president he went all blush-y

- he thought you were super cool and loved how effortless you were in front of everyone

- when enhypen debuted, you stayed a fan not just because of jungwon, but because of his interactions and their music

- enhypen was popular from the get-go because of iland, and you paid attention to their comebacks and texted jungwon every so often

Jungwon shakes his head, dimples reappearing as he takes another look at you and nods. He sings his written part into the mic, and unknowingly, you smile too. “Ah- sorry, I’m too nervous to be singing it well.” And you scoff at him, looking around at his members. “He did it great, don’t you agree, Jake? Your voice is like an angel.” You call out to Jake, who originally sings that part.

Jake tells you, “Agh, he might steal my fans if he decides to sing that part live” and you laugh, eyes crinkling as you smile at Jake’s response to move onto the next question.

Luxurious living...

Orange and red covered the whole house. Dark shadows danced on the walls as the smell of a home cooked meal and smoke filled the air. The fire crackled on as they all sat around the table. The home was warm and peaceful. 

The palace was nothing like this. Where he lived regularly, it was cold. No one made eye contact unless spoken to directly and hardly even then. It was a place of loneliness and isolation attempting to cover it all up with lavish things, golden vases, silk curtains, extravagant jewels, savory foods and sweets beyond your wildest dreams. It was more painful than it was luxury. 

Being here, felt like he was alive. It felt like home. This was his home away from home. The people here showed their emotions, no matter how ugly they got. No matter what they always forgave each other. There wasn’t a silent treatment in sight, no shoving that person into a cold, damp room for days on end. 

He wasn’t told to stay back and not help out or pitch in. In fact, he was encouraged to help. He loved to help, sitting back and doing nothing always made him feel guilty more than anything else. He felt like he could be a normal person here and not just the spoiled prince most people thought that he was. He felt human. “Jungwon, dear, get some water down by the river, please. Before it gets too dark.” Jake’s mother asked him, not looking up from the knitting project in front of her. “Jake, go help him.” Jake clicked his tongue as he reluctantly got up following his friend to the river. 

Truthfully, Jungwon didn’t need help getting water but he didn’t mind the company. “She always makes me follow you everywhere. I’m starting to think she loves you like her own youngest son.” She probably did. She did baby Jungwon more than she did her own sons. 

Jungwon shrugged, “Maybe I’m her favorite child.” 

The other scoffed, “You wish.”

Riki had caused you enough trouble for one day. From not telling you about the dahlias days ago to trying to gamble away your most valued bracelet. He was just in one of those moods today.

At this point, you had enough of your friend. He was being a menace to society. He was hitting on anything with a pulse all the way home. You could not wait until you got home and away from him. Your mother would scold him, like she always did, after she caught wind of what her “son” was doing and you’d sit there enjoying the show that was unfolding right in front of you. It was always a glorious sight for you to behold.But all of that would have to wait until tomorrow, you were far too tired to even think about the day anymore. You had fallen asleep as soon as your head hit the soft plush pillow. 

The sun shone brightly through the trees, colorful flowers filling the surrounding fields.The vast pond glittering in the beautiful sunlight. Laughter filled the air. A little boy about your age and height, smiling and giggling with you. 

A worn out blanket laid out on the green grass, burnt bread sitting in the middle of it with a sweet piece of expensive candy your grandfather had given to you once many years ago. Birds fluttering about, tweeting as they flew above the two of you. 

“Here,” You held out a button for him to take. “Don’t lose it.” 

He took the button, clearly confused. “For what?” 

“It’s a best friend token, so you don’t forget about me.”

He smiled warmly before ripping off his neon yellow necklace and handing it over to you. “Don’t lose it. It’s a best friend token so you don’t forget about me.” He repeated back. 

You took the necklace happily and tied it around your wrist, “It’ll stay here forever!” 

The dream was hazy but it all felt too familiar. You had certainly been there before. The dream had felt all too real for it not to be memory.

The river babbled on as they approached. The night was quiet and peaceful. Not a cloud in sight, the moon was full and bright. The stars twinkled and sparkled against the dark black sky. It was a beautiful night tonight. 

Jungwon was trapped within his thoughts. He feared becoming like his father as a ruler. Someone who ruled with an iron fist. One who made children weep over spilled milk. Someone who took land away from the farmers for his own personal luxuries. One who pillaged and plundered for the thrill of it. A vile king who enjoyed the chaos he created. One who made his subjects fear him.

Jungwon knew what kind of ruler he wanted to be and it was nothing like that. He wanted to be someone who his kingdom adored. Someone who they could turn to in need of help. A dependable person. Someone who was just and kind. He did not want to be a replica. The generational curse of a wicked ruler was going to end with his parents. That's what he had decided both for himself and for his future kingdom. 

Being as close as the two of them were, Jake knew something was up and he knew exactly what it was. He knew Jungwon wasn’t going to want to speak about it, it was an internal battle between himself and no one else. He wasn’t going to stick his nose where it did not belong for the time being. Jake sighed, “I was thinking of getting a dog, what do you think?” He asked, trying his best to break his friend out of those spiraling thoughts. 

Jungwon furrowed his brows, “A dog?” 

Jake nodded his head. 

Jungwon stared at his friend in blatant surprise, “You can’t even take care of yourself and you want a dog?” 

“I can take care of myself! I take care of you, too! What’s so different about getting a dog and babysitting you?” 

The younger one let out a loud laugh. He couldn’t believe what his friend was saying. If anything, it had been the exact opposite. Jungwon had been taking care of Jake for their entire friendship. “Get a dog then. But I get to name it.” 

“Why do you get to name it?” 

“Because we are going to raise it together!” 

“No we aren’t!” 

Jungwon got up from where he was sitting and started to run back towards the house, “Mom! Jake doesn’t want to raise a dog with me!” 

“Jake, raise a dog with your brother!”

hi guys!! this is my very first piece of writing! constructive criticism is always welcomed. please don't mind any grammatical/spelling errors. i wrote this at 2 in the morning and just wanted to do something fun. i still have a lot of room for improvement but i hope you guys enjoy!

he was the sweetest boy to you when you had first met. his puppy eyes, gorgeous smile, and brown fluffy hair were what drew you in. his flirty words towards you, and only you, had you captivated in a heartbeat. 

that’s why you couldn’t believe what was unfolding in front of you right now.

“oh god please don’t start.” jake groaned as you stared at him with angry eyes. or was it hurt? he couldn’t tell. 

“i’m not starting anything! if anything you are! why are you still talking to your ex after the countless times she’s crossed the boundaries in our relationship? i’ve told you how i feel about her!" your voice croaked and you felt helpless.

you had always tried your best to not be that jealous girlfriend everyone hates. but how could you? jake was attractive and every girl tried to get at him. it didn’t help that he was oblivious to the advances the women around him would give. that’s why you would get angry, but never at him. 

“how many times do i have to tell you that she came up to me? i was just being polite by having a conversation with her”.

jake was sitting on the couch now. his hands covering his face, unaware of the tears forming in your eyes.

it always came down to this. you voicing your problem with jake entertaining other girls and him trying to reassure you.

you both were growing tired of the constant arguing. 

“jake she was pushing herself all up on you and you just stood there! can you imagine how that made me feel? watching my boyfriend have another girl's hands all over him as if she were the girlfriend?” you were hurt. it hurt. all of this hurt. you knew this wasn’t your boyfriend’s fault. he had always been a gentleman, one of the many qualities you loved about him. but his next words made you second-guess yourself.

“that’s just her character, doll. she’s always been like that from the moment i met her. this jealousy thing of yours really needs to stop, it’s not cute anymore”. jake almost immediately regretted his words as he saw your reaction. he knew he was wrong.

“you think i do this to be cute? am i joke to you?” you cried out.

you don’t remember when everything went wrong. you don’t remember the last time you felt secure in your relationship. maybe you weren’t ready for all of this. 

“no, love i’m sorry i didn’t mean that” jake said as he quickly got up and made his way towards you.

“i’m so sorry, i just had a difficult day that’s all”. he slipped his arm around your waist and used the other to wipe your tears away.

“jake”

he looked at your eyes.

“whatever you’re about to say please don’t” jake pleaded.

“jake i just think we aren’t ready for this. for us”. you started to sob again. 

“i think we need to let each other go. we need to grow and learn to understand ourselves before we can understand each other".

“please” jake said as he dipped his head into your neck.

you let him stay there for a while before you detached yourself from him. it was hard to because jake wouldn’t let go. he knew it would be a while before he held you again. 

“i’m sorry jake, i really am” you said with a small smile, trying your best not to completely break down again. 

“no i’m sorry, this is all my fault.”

“we both had fault in this jake, don’t blame yourself.”

you both stood there for a moment, observing each other. it was as if you guys were taking in your last moments together. 

“i’m leaving now jake”. you wasted no time in collecting your things in order to head to the front door. 

“thank you for everything, really. i know things didn’t end how we wanted them to but some of my best memories were with you. thank you jake”. 

jake just stood there, still in disbelief at how quickly things had unraveled. 

right as you were about to walk out he calls to you.

“can we still be friends?” a little hope is visible in his eyes. he hopes that you say yes so that he’s able to see you again.

“we can’t be friends”. and just like that you were gone. the only evidence of you ever being there was jake’s broken heart.

i’ll wait for your love jake thinks as he slowly walks over to the sofa and slumps down.
