Tired of seeing people say "if you identify as [x], you're misgendering yourself," or "if you use [x] pronouns, you're misgendering yourself."

You do not get to decide what other people feel misgendered by. The whole point of the word "misgendering" is to describe the experience of being called something that you don't want to be called. If someone has voluntarily opted into any word or label, then they are not misgendering themself, because that is what they want to be called.

Identity is complicated as shit, and you don't get to decide how other people feel about their labels and pronouns. You have literally no idea what it's like to be them, nor what's best for them, because you aren't them.

People don't need you to assist them in not-misgendering-themselves, unless they've explicitly asked for that because they're still breaking into their identity, or they feel like they're faking.

Don't infantilize us by assuming we don't know how to validate our own identities. Don't assume that we need you to hold our hands and guide us. Don't assume that you know us better than we know ourselves. Don't assume that you know what's best for us more than we do.
