Seungcheol sat amongst the masses of parents who looked on at their children, who were dressed in uniform teal gowns with matching hats –the ones that Seungcheol could never remember the name for– as he watched on in pride at the last of his children graduating their final year of high school. Of course, he wasn’t actually one of the parents but knowing his boys long enough, he had definitely earned the title as the group’s designated dad friend; the type that loved his kids but didn’t know how to raise them. Instead, the parenting was left to Jeonghan. He was easily the favourite parent that the youngest three loved to brag about, however, Hansol was happy enough to tell just about anyone he had two dads.

The sound of the rain hitting the windshield lightly echoed in the silent car as Yoongi let his thoughts fuzz. His brother’s quiet breathing in the front seat was the only thing pulling him away from his thoughts, his own voice poking through.

“What are we gonna do now?”

Yoongi knew that even if he got an answer, it wouldn’t be the right one. So he shrugs his shoulders, letting the question land gently on him as he prayed the car seat would swallow him whole. Maybe that would hurt less than watching his brother desperately wipe away at his face, pretending nothing hurt when they both knew it did. Yoongi wondered if he was supposed to hurt like that but then recalls what his doctor told him earlier.

Grief is different for everyone, maybe he might handle it better than you expect.

How did they expect him to handle it?

Was he supposed to be screaming, running around fighting everyone like his classmates?

Should he cry and throw himself over anyone who came close like he watched his aunts do?

Maybe he was supposed to be silent like his brother, pretending nothing was wrong as they waited for the light to change. He wasn’t sure, it’s only been a week after all.

“Well, maybe this won’t be too bad. We can do this together, right?”
