For Those Of You Saying That It Was A Translation Issue, Even So, Some SuperM Members Have Said Racist

For those of you saying that it was a translation issue, even so, some SuperM members have said racist / colorist comments when they were in their respective groups like EXO or NCT. And i also said idols in general, because many idols have said many ignorant things.

unpopular opinion: SuperM controversy

I have a small rant about the recent controversy with SuperM (and other idols in general) being colorist / racist. As some of you might know I love Baekhyun with all my heart, but this racist shit is not it. I’m glad they’re being held accountable for being colorist toward Lucas even if it was a joke. Idols need to stop saying these Black / dark skin color jokes because they’re extremely offensive and unnecessary.

And I know that there are some people who defend them by saying, “But they’re from Korea, they don’t know any better. They’re not knowledgeable about race” (and some of the people making excuses for them are not people of color). But the korean entertainment market has been globalized and if they’re trying to reach international audiences, they should be aware of the issues and discussions had in other nations and take into consideration the biases and stereotypes they have within themselves, especially since they’re trying to make it in West. Korea even had they’re own protests and marches in solidarity of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and BTS even donated 1 million dollars to the BLM movement (with armys matching their 1 mil). So people can’t say they’re not aware of race issues when we have other idols donating and posting about racism in the states (and other countries).

I’m a huge fan of these people but I will not sit here and let them say racist shit and get away with it. And tbh Mark should know better than to contribute to these jokes and laugh at them. He’s from Canada for fucks sake. And if they’re going to profit off of Black culture with their raps and aesthetics then they better pay their respects. I’m still waiting for that apology / statement from SM or SuperM. And I’m tired of these idols who get called out for being racist and then they apologize and do it again (*cough* Oh My Girl *cough* Mamamoo *cough*). I want to see not only an apology but genuine action being done. Take classes and educate yourselves on different races and do the work to understand why people are offended, donate to those causes you’ve harmed. I don’t want an empty apology, I want action too. Anyway this was longer than expected but necessary for me to put out there. I’m just sick of this y’all. Continue holding idols accountable.
