alright fine, here's a chuuya's pov/soukoku analysis

I see so many people using Dazai leaving Chuuya alone in the mafia at 18 as angst material, and oh boy does that not even scratch the surface. Here's my lengthy analysis on Chuuya's perspective in soukoku's relationship. (I've wanted to write this for a while, this post finally pushed me over the edge.)

(STORMBRINGER/MANGA SPOILERS)

First let's start with Chuuya's character and his relationships with Dazai & the Sheep.

Chuuya is a pretty tragic character already, even if he had never joined the mafia. He had known Shirase and the rest of the Sheep for 8 years when they betrayed him. Dazai left the Mafia after working with Chuuya for 3, but somehow I still see more people writing about Dazai instead of the Sheep when it comes to Chuuya.

He never wanted to join the mafia, Dazai manipulated him into it. He was planning from the start to get Chuuya to join with him, purposely inflicting doubt into his friends in the Sheep. Hence, one of the reasons he doesn't "like" Dazai at 15.

Now, I'm going with the assumption that during their time together in the Mafia the two of them grew closer, as they were partnered together on many jobs. Maybe at some point they grew to like each other, but even so, Chuuya's most likely completely over Dazai by now.

In Stormbringer we get to see a 16 year old Chuuya, 1 year after he was betrayed by the Sheep and joined the Mafia. He hardly even thinks about them anymore. It's clear he wasn't happy to see Shirase when they did eventually reunite, but they ended things on a good note, so Chuuya was able to move on from them past that point. That's how long it took for Chuuya to (supposedly) get over his friends of 8 years, 1 year.

Second, I'd like to talk about Chuuya and how many times he loses his friends.

I know it's like a running joke at this point, but seriously, my man can not keep a friendgroup. First the Sheep, then the Flags, then his unnamed friendgroup in Dead Apple and then literally everyone else in the Mafia. All this, but people still linger on Dazai leaving him. Chuuya is over the Sheep, the Flags, his Dead Apple friendgroup and, most importantly, Chuuya is over Dazai. I'm not trying to say that Dazai has no influence over Chuuya's life whatsoever, though. I think the main issue with Chuuya and Dazai's relationship is that everyone I've just mentioned has died or left permanently. The Sheep are all relocated in other cities, Shirase is in London (for good, probably), the Flags are dead, his Dead Apple friends are dead, and the Mafia members are (most likely) dead. The problem with Dazai is that after 4 years of them being apart (4 years in which Chuuya absolutely got over him), Dazai is back and is now actively playing a role in Chuuya's life. It's harder to get over someone who isn't out of your life forever.

I don't think Chuuya is mad at Dazai because he left, I think he's more pissed that he came back.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely do think the two of them still care about each other, much like Chuuya still cared about Shirase after not seeing/forgetting about him for a year. I just think Dazai leaving the Mafia is the least of Chuuya's concerns.

That's just my two cents, tell me if I'm wrong.

the dead apple light novel makes me laugh sometimes bc in the scene where Chuuya shows up to the Special Division— he not only caused a shit ton of property damage, but the world was also burning outside yet the main focus was just: bro is BEAUTIFUL. SOPHISTICATED. PIERCING EYES. UNIQUE. GENTLEMANLY. A DOMINATING AURA.

I also just found out about the Goncharov Game Jam.

It appears this opened a day after after the meme took off.

Goncharov was first entered into Wikipedia between Day 4 and 5 (attempts to vandalise it with fake info don't count, incidentally – please knock that shit off) under List of Internet Phenomena. This was then expanded into its own Wikipedia page at the end of Day 5 because, according to the talk history: "the topic now meets the notability threshold for its own artice due to significant coverage in The New York Times and other sources cited." We're on Wikipedia, people!

And then we made The Guardian half a day later. So while the meme is definitely dying down to embers by now, it still stays winning.
