Encanto Symbolism: Pearls
Encanto Symbolism: Pearls
Was looking up Colombian Wedding Superstitions for reasons and found something.
This Specifically:
"Pearls on the wedding day? Do not do it
Let’s start with the omens of weddings in Colombia that are bad luck, the bad news first is better. Although you don’t have to see it from the negative side but as a way to prevent not so good things.
Wearing pearls on your wedding day is not a good omen, it is said that pearls symbolize tears and suffering, (emphasis mine) pearls are known as mermaid tears, which is why we recommend you not to wear them for any reason, only if you believe in superstitions for weddings."
But we see 3 women wearing pearls in the movie: Alma,
Isabela:
And Señora Guzman
Think about it.
Alma has never stopped mourning Pedro, so her wearing them makes sense. She cannot heal from what happened, and she wears a reminder of her sorrow for all to see.
Isabela is suffering from the expectations put on her. mourning the loss of her freedom and having little to no say in her future, (and maybe subconsciously trying to foil her wedding.)
And Señora Guzman? Given her age, she is most likely a widow. She may also be sad to see her grandson moving on in life, but since weddings are happy occasions and she is really enthusiastic about it, I'm going to go with the first one.
Now, in a regular film I wouldn't think anything of this, but every choice in an animated film is a deliberate choice, and given how closely the dev team focused on the Madrigals and their clothing, making them color coded to family sides as well as distinct enough to stand out from the highly colorful town, as well as the fact that they made the conscious decision for Bruno's vision tablets to be made of emerald due to it's esoteric link to divination, adding pearls to these three women specifically makes a good bit of sense.
I love this movie!

🚨 HIGH URGENT CASE 🚨
In short, I want to tell you that the quadcopter sniped my brother in front of us and left him bleeding in front of us until I was able, with my little experience, to stop his bleeding. We were besieged and starved until they bombed our house and killed a number of my family members. Please, the last thing I have left is my future, help me build it. Any amount will make a huge difference to us
Overlooked paralleles between the grandkids and triplets
You know how much people talk about how triplets and sertain grandkids share simularities. But some of them have never got their chance to shine. So, overlook things that unite them!
Julieta and Camilo
Their gifts both are very people orientied and is used to make people feel better. Either by helping their physical state or entertaining. Also both Julieta and Camilo is shown to "hold it together" the best out of their generations (we have never seen their actual problems in the movie). And are shown to have strong parental instincts. Julieta is responsible and helpful. (And her gift can be viewed as having caring nature). Camilo is shown to take care of an infant during TFM while still being a teenager
Pepa and Mirabel
Another pair that deserves more attention is Pepa and Mirabel! What unites them is the fact that they can't hide their trauma/feeling the same way the rest of the family does. Everyone saw how Mirabel's door disappeared, therefore knows about her trauma unlike the rest of the grandkids. And everyone can see whenever Pepa is happy or upset. She can't hide what she feels. And Mirabel is also the person who is bad with hiding her emotions overall, just like Pepa is.
Bruno and Luisa
The last two! It was harder to choose because of Bruno's popularity. The most overlooked thing about them two is how they use humor to distract attention from their problems/cope. Bruno was constantly cracking jokes during his scene and is clearly using it as his own way to cope with loneliness. What Luisa did after nearly having breakdown in the song? She started dancing with the donkeys. (You cannon convince me she did it not to distract Mirabel). Both also seem to run/try to escape problems/talk with Mirabel. Luisa is just running away all the time before SF and Bruno's reaction to Mirabel is "bye"
So, I made a tool to stop AI from stealing from writers
So seeing this post really inspired me in order to make a tool that writers could use in order to make it unreadable to AI.
And it works! You can try out the online demo, and view all of the code that runs it here!
It does more than just mangle text though! It's also able to invisibly hide author and copyright info, so that you can have definitive proof that someone's stealing your works if they're doing a simple copy and paste!
Below is an example of Scrawl in action!
[Text reads "To humans, this text looks normal, but to computers, it's unreadable!"]
Of course, this "Anti-AI" mode comes with some pretty serious accessibility issues, like breaking screen readers and other TTS software, but there's no real way to make text readable to one AI but not to another AI.
If you're okay with it, you can always have Anti-AI mode off, which will make it so that AIs can understand your text while embedding invisible characters to save your copyright information! (as long as the website you're posting on doesn't remove those characters!)
But, the Anti-AI mode is pretty cool.
Are these children terrorists?
✓Answer me, intellectual?
We kill in cold blood without mercy May God’s curse be upon the occupation and its agents.
✓Everyone must cooperate and donate to crush those collaborating with the occupation
Stand with me, donate, and share this photo to bash this collaborator
Okay but can somebody actually explain to me why people are coming to take a vacation in the mf WAR ZONE???
