You think the officer gives you a second look as she’s stamping your passports and allowing your entry onto the boats that will glide its way into Ba Sing Se’s port. It adds to your nerves, makes you live inside your head a little more and a little longer. 

Despite that, you try to take your passports with a sense of ease—like you aren’t in a rush, like you don’t have anything to hide. In short, you are trying hard to embody the word ‘chill’. In contrast, you’re definitely moving a little too slow and smiling a little wide too. But the officer has dealt with people all day, and her attention slips away from you and Jungkook the moment she has stamped your passport. She probably doesn’t even blink twice at your strangeness. Strangeness is a norm here—being surrounded by refugees, people just trying to escape the clutches of the Fire Nation. 

You stay quiet as you and Jungkook make your way up the ramp into the boats along the docks, the murmurs of people all around you but the loud is quiet between the two of you. 

Jungkook notices your silence immediately, because of course he does. He’s quiet, but observable, and he seems to understand your habits quicker than you anticipated. He doesn’t ask, but he reaches over to hold your hand, lacing the fingers together. “You’re being quiet. What’s up?”
