hi yes my first time posting my art here and I come bearing fanart for @hella1975 ‘s amazing atla fic The Art of Burning, you can find this specific scene in chapter 28! if you haven't read it yet I highly recommend.

zuko has spent his whole life fending for and protecting himself. at such a young age, he was forced to eliminate and kill the softer and gentler parts of him because they were seen as weakness by his father and sister and most of the people in his family. but the thing is that zuko at his core is simply a loving and gentle person and even when zuko had lost himself, that part of him was still there. and it’s so important for him to get the chance to bring back that part of him and relearn and express those emotions and be able to show people how much he cares with actions rather than words (yeah he could use words but things don’t always come out the way he wants so..).

AND sokka has spent his whole life protecting and fending for others. with his father and all the men in the tribe gone, he was forced to take the role of the sole protector to the point that it became his identity and all he really was. sokka is paranoid and he’s always afraid that something/someone is going to get them and take the people he loves away from him and being the warrior is such a burden and it’s so heavy and deep down, sokka wants someone that is willing to take that burden away from him and allow him to relax and let himself be vulnerable SO HOW COULD ZUKO NOT BE THE BIG SPOON AND HOW COULD SOKKA NOT BE THE LITTLE SPOON?????
