I wonder if -during the pursuit by Mirio- he thought that he was experiencing his last moments of being together with Shigaraki. And when faced with the possibility of being separated from the first person he truly bonded with, he decided that he was willing to do anything to stop it.
How sad is it then… that the method he used to try to reawaken his friend ended up being the final step needed for AFO to take over Shigaraki’s body, separating Shigaraki from Spinner anyway.

I'm glad Nana didn't stick around to see the rest of the confrontation. She would've survived seeing Kotarou die, but seeing Kotarou and AFO having late night bar dates and Kotarou being happy around the man would've killed the poor woman again.

I thought of this and i had to draw it immediately,
I find it kind of funny people still don’t think All for One had a tragic backstory cause, well, he did.
I get it, though. People believe that if a character has a tragic backstory, you’re supposed to feel sympathy for THE character or that the backstory excuses that character’s actions.
It doesn’t.
All for One’s backstory IS tragic because of what All for One COULD have been.
That’s the point. Even Yoichi states it.
AFO had the greatest Quirk of all time. He could have done so much good with it, but that didn’t happen.
This was because of multiple factors:
-Born with only each other in the gutter.
-Quirk activated in the womb. His urges already manifested. The “arrogance” and believing “everything belonged to him”.
-No parental figures at all
-A tumultuous time when society was collapsing
-Hunted and looked down upon as less than human if anyone looked at them at all.
-Living in the slums
-Having to scrap, steal, and kill to survive. To eat.
-Having the first escape from all this terribleness be ratty comic books
-Having no goal, no purpose, until the comic books. Until Yoichi decided on his.
-Comic books set in a world of black & white morality. Confusing them into believing this is reality.
There’s more, but this is a quick list.
ALL of that is why All for One ended up the way he is.
Others state in the epilogue that the state of society after the war is like it was when Quirks first manifested. That it’s the same kind of world that CREATED All for One.
Yoichi says he couldn’t steer his brother down the right path, but that alone means there WERE paths.
But everything was set up perfectly to create a monster.
It IS tragic. Tragic because of what could have been.
Things that are in canon that I find interesting: (Villains)
Both Afo and All Might use strength Quirks and a lot of them instead of any other? Like if Afo used the permeability for example, or even just Hagakure's. He had a plan that was well-thought out, but the end result was not smart at all? He was affected by the quirk discrimination, even dismisses Best Jeanists quirk as being too hard to control- doesn't want to spend time mastering things and basically has minimal control over his Quirks. Like if he had stolen Shinsou's he would only need one other quirk ( a quirk that forces one to respond to questions) (maybe something with electronics) and no one would be able to stop him. It's legit said that he has like thousands but the only ones we really see are these strength quirks.
His manipulation of Shigaraki- made him really immature and childish, which, kinda dumb, even if you just want him as a pawn.
Red Shoe Theory: Shigaraki was originally Quirkless and Afo gave him the quirk so he was conviently crying in an alley after people ignore him to be approached and twisted. Both Shigaraki and Izuku have same shoes, and they need the special shoes because of the extra toe joint. (Also stolen)
Izuku Quirk options if Dad for one
Honestly, a majority of people create, Izuku has All For One angst, you know? Or like oh no its slight harder to give quirks back and oops now he has trauma and his mom is dead. Or he can steal quirks from dead people too but still basically Afo. And the concept is really cool, I agree. I've also enjoyed many of those. But there is a path in-between that I would also like to pursue.
Consider this. Midoriya's mom doesn't have attraction of small objects specifically, her quirk is just very weak telekinesis. As such, she could, hypothetically, with a lot of training, have increased that. But she didn't, either because it would take too long, or just wasn't at the right time.
On the other hand, All for One has a very powerful quirk that has continued (or so i would like to believe) to grow over the centuries. He wasn't born to be able to steal thousands of quirks, it had to grow.
Now, if you merge these two, you get several ideas that people have already capitalized on.
A stronger Afo.
An afo that doesn't need touch to steal quirks.
A copy quirk.
A quirk that inverses other quirks
Afo but for dead people too.
A quirk that prevents other quirks from working on him.
However, no one thinks of like indirect things too?
For example, a quirk that just hairline shifts control of the original person's quirk, or gives Izuku a bare minumum of control (this would be a hard limit on amount of control, and gets better at using directly affected by experience) Like for example, if Snipe was to shoot from 2 meters, nothing. If Snipe was to shoot from 25 meters, maybe a couple millimeters off. But if Snipe was being a sniper and from a couple hundred feet that minimum of control could save a life. It wouldn't work very well with big quirks (unless it was percentage that scaled, not just a set amount) , but it would be an interesting concept.
Or, for example, a quirk that borrows. Literally. Izuku would borrow it, and get to use it until the other person decided to use it. (which would make using it on unsuspecting people tricky, but also be a cool trick to work around/ throw off suspicion) it would then be as if nothing happened until Izuku reinitiated touch/contact or found someone else
Furthermore, what if Izuku could steal one quirk, but only one. It would go back the person he took it from after he switched it out, but he wouldn't be able to keep it past that. (Dead people maybe?)
Maybe it could be attracting people with powerful quirks (ie: if he's in danger, he just amps it up and hopes a hero comes, and not just a stronger villain)
Finally, it could be a small repulsion of quirks/powers?/objects?. Nothing big, but quirks never quite seem to hurt him/impact him as much as they thought it would. A fire villian burning him? It's not that bad there was some wind that didn't allow for direct contact, he only has heat burns. You thought you playfully zapped him with electricity like kids do by dragging their feet over the carpet? Nah, nothing happened.
Again it would be very minor and have a hard limit, but his resourcefullness would make it special and important. Just me and quirk theories.
