A Break at Home - Deathbringer x (F) Hybrid Reader
This is on Wattpad, I wrote this I did not copy
Deathbringer x (F) Hybrid Reader (Rainwing sandwing hybrid)
Characters: Ark 1 and 2 characters (the character's from the quartz winglet, they are only named and never described in the books the picture above is someone's headcanon, the character will be replacing the rainwing Siamang)
Description: a hybrid character becomes friends with the dragonets of destiny and goes to jade mountain academy, she comes home to the rainforest during a break and meets a very charming dragon)

(the dragons mentioned in the winglets im just going off an image of reimagined versions of them since they have absolutely no info on them so they are just what I imagine they are like)

Ever since I had hatched, everyone knew I was different. I didn't look normal, I mean I looked like a rainwing, but instead of a normal tail I had a barb on the end, and instead of a bareback, I had a sail running down it. All of the other rainwings said I was unusually warm too. The thing is, I still had camouflage scales and venom (though not as useful as a typical rainwings venom), but I wasn’t treated like the others.
Once I was around 4 I realized that I was different. Everyone around me didn't really pay attention to me, they would overlook me. Then the dragonets came. For some reason, I was the only one in the village who read. I tended to venture farther out of the rainforest than I should have but learned so much. When they came I was so happy, I wanted to ask them so many questions.
Flashback:
I ran up to the new dragons.
“Oh, my three moons!! I can't believe you guys are here!!” I stopped and bobbed my head a little, the bag that goes around my neck and under my right arm bounced slightly. The rainwing looked at me funny.
“Are you really the dragonets of destiny? What is the war like? Were you really raised by the talons of peace?!” they all looked really confused and surprised.
“Sorry… I didn't mean to… umm... Im just a really big fan..” I spoke quietly hanging my head down slightly. I noticed the Nightwing looking at me curiously.
“If you're wondering why I look weird, I don't know, nobody here does.” I picked my head up slightly, and pulled my tail to my legs.
“You must be a hybrid..” the Nightwing pointed at my tail, “you have a barb on the end of your tail like sandwings do, as well as a sail” he pointed to my sail, and my scales rippled into pink, light gray, neutral blue, and light teal.
“Don't worry about being different, im funny looking too!!” the sandwing came up to me, she did look a little funny, at least compared to the sandwing diagrams I had. Why didn't I notice my own tail… I probably would have figured it out on my own.
"If you're a sandwing then why don't you have the tail barb?" I asked the tiny sandwing. She looked a little taken aback.
She smiled slightly "I don't know and I don't care, as long as I am me that's all that matters!" She chirped, and I smiled.
“Wait how do you know who we are?” the mudwing asked.
“Oh umm…” “D/N here is a little special… Y’know how none of us read or have any scrolls here? Well, she's the only one that does.” jambu interjected sleepily.
I sheepishly smiled and turned a salmon color. “You have scrolls?!” the Nightwing lit up and jumped in front of me, “Yeah!! You want to see?!” I jumped up, turning a bright gold color.
“Three moons yes!!”
I smiled recalling the memory. I was around the same age as all of the dragonets and was really good friends with all of them. It was really strange when the nightwings came to live in the rainforest but I didn't really mind. When they opened jade mountain academy after the war I was invited to go and stay there. That's actually where I am right now.
3rd person:
D/N was currently snuggled in a corner of the library reading scrolls when sunny came in and looked around until she spotted D/N.
She walked up to her “D/N I have a scroll for you.” the hybrid looked up from the scroll “I think I have plenty for now” sunny extended her claw out “It’s from glory.” she said, the hybrid perked up at this.
“Thank you sunny” she took the scroll from sunny’s talon. She opened the scroll and read its contents: Dear D/N was scrawled in beautiful talonship. Im writing this weird scroll thingy to you to ask if you would want to come back to the rainforest for the next two weeks. I know you have the days off at the academy and I would like to see you so… plus It's been a while since we have seen each other. I have some things planned if you do decide to come. Don't feel pressured to come, I understand if you can't make it. Can't wait to see you if you are.
Queen Glory (can't believe I have to write that now)
D/N pov:
Heck yes!!! I jumped up and ran out of the library quickly saying goodbye to starflight. I ran down towards my cave, bursting into it. Scaring my 2 cave mates. I was in the quartz winglet, siamang the previous rainwing of the quartz winglet decided that they didn't want to attend jade mountain anymore, and in turn, I was allowed to go.
I shared a cave with ebony the Nightwing of our winglet and coyote the sandwing of our winglet. Ebony jumped from her scrolls, while coyote merely lifted his head from his bedding with his tail up and ready.
“What's going on?!” ebony asked I started grabbing some of my stuff and putting in my pouches.
“Sorry I scared you guys, just really excited,” I explained briefly not lifting my head.
“Excited for what?” this time it was Coyote asking the question, “im going home for the next two weeks since we have off.” coyote nodded and layed his head back down as I continued packing.
“Okay well I hope you have fun!” ebony said, I grabbed the last item and started hooking each of my 3 pouches around my body. One around my neck and arm, one around my tail, and the final one around my wing bases so it resides on my back. I hugged ebony goodbye, and pat coyote on the head since he doesn't like showing affection to other dragons. They both said goodbye and I headed out of the cave. I stopped by Tsunami before I left.
“Hey D/N, do you need something?” she asked looking over at me from where she was sitting in her cave.
“Did glory tell you I was going back home for our days off?” I tilted my head slightly, my scales rippled into light blues and bits of gold around my fringe and my ears, “yeah she did! So you can go if you want.”
I smiled brightly, “okay thanks tsunami!” I bolted out of the cave and ran towards the entrance. As soon as I was clear of the ceiling I spread my wings and jumped.
The next day:
I had finally arrived at the rainforest, when I left yesterday I didn't stop, not even last night. Sure I was tired but I wanted to get here as soon as I could. Plus I can always recharge during sun time. I glided through the trees, pulling my wings in slightly. Every couple of trees I would grab a branch and swing, giving myself more momentum. I headed towards the queen’s makeshift throne room hut.
When it got into view, there wasnt much of a line, a few dragons at most. By the time I reached the platform the last dragon was coming out. There were no others to be seen. So I walked in. glory was sitting in the room by herself it seemed.
“I see this place has changed, definitely more flowers.” glory whipped her head around, she had a slight gold hue to her normal colors.
“You came!” she smiled slightly, getting up and walking towards me.
“Of course! I wouldn't miss coming home for the world.” when we met in the middle we pulled each other into a tight hug.
“You better not tell anybody I actually show affection..” she hissed slightly, her usual sarcastic tone ever present. I laughed softly and pulled away. We both had smiles on our faces. Someone is watching us. Not a rainwing though.
“So what have you been up to besides queenly duties?” she laughed slightly, “nothing much, just answering random dragon's questions, most of which sound like ‘my mango tree was assaulted’ or ‘the nightwings keep invading our sun time spots’” I laughed softly at her mimics.
“My my and who do we have here, I've definitely never seen you before.” I turned my head to meet a Nightwing, (a very handsome one at that) my scales mixed into a salmon and a magenta color I noticed immediately and tried to go to my natural colors, glory noticed also and was amused. I hoped that this Nightwing didn't know what the rainwing colors meant otherwise I was screwed. Luckily for me my scales finally died down.
“My name is… D/N” I looked over in his direction but not at him, I knew I was going to get flustered again if I did. “Well D/N, im deathbringer, queen glory’s devilishly handsom servant.” he got one thing right he was devilishly handsome, but I doubt glory likes him that much.
“HA! If anything you look like a squashed beetle” she hissed back laughing slightly. “And as much as id like to insult you more, it's sun time, and I know ill get yelled at so let's go D/N, I've got the perfect spot,” she said slowly standing up and walking towards the door. I got up and followed after her, but stopped right at the doorway.
“Have you ever experienced sun time?” I looked back at deathbringer, and he shook his head, “you should join us then, even if you're not a rainwing, it's still really nice, at least coming from a hybrid.” I then took off after glory.
As we were gliding I could hear the faint sound of a few trees whacking someone behind me, assuming it was deathbringer. We finally landed on a large platform in the middle of a wide canopy, the sun was shining through the gaps in the trees, and most of the platform was covered in the golden warm light. I heard a light thud from behind me, I looked back to see deathbringer covered in leaves and some pollen dusting his body here and there.
Deathbringer walked over to me “so how does this ‘sun time’ actually work?” he asked, I chuckled slightly “I mean I've seen the rainwings do it, but im not sure I understand completely…” I laughed slightly, turning myself around to face him fully.
“Just pick a spot to lay down and go to sleep.” he looked at me then glory then back to me “that's it?” I nodded. He looked down for a second, then looked back up and found a spot to lie down, he was situated in the middle of the biggest sunspot. He circled for a second and was about to lie down when glory threw some pillows at him.
“It's more comfortable with pillows.” he moved the pillows and then laid down. I grabbed some pillows for myself and laid down right next to him, he flinched slightly, im guessing he doesn't understand why im lying right next to him, practically on top of him. Our backs were against each other, and glory lay down in front of me with her back to me. She didn't lay down very close, since she's not big on dragons laying on top of her.
POV: Deathbringer
I had laid down and started to get comfortable on the pillows that had been given to me when I felt a warm body lying right against my back. I could feel what felt like a sail on the dragon's back, so I assumed it was D/N.
Rainwings must not know personal space, although, it feels nice, she was so warm, so on top of having the warm sun warming my scales (which felt really nice) I also had her warm body. I so wanted to flip around and hold onto her but I knew that would be weird since I had only just met the dragon. But oh was she beautiful. That first time I saw her I was mesmerized.
A couple of hours later
POV: D/N
When I woke up I was facing the opposite way I was when I fell asleep. I had my head resting on Deathbringer's neck and shoulder. I had one arm up on him next to my head, and our tails were intertwined. I was going to move away so that if he woke up he didn't get angry we were like this, but what stopped me was his tail squeezing my tail slightly and the smile of contentment upon his face.
I noticed my scales had neutral blue splotches atop a light gray base with a hue of light pink and magenta on the tip of my tail, my ears, the end of my snout, and a little in my frill, wing gaps, and my sail. I tried to move as little as I could not to wake him but he slowly started to wake up after a little while.
POV: Deathbringer
I slowly opened my eyes and blinked a few times. I lifted my head softly and yawned, but I felt a weight on my shoulder and something around my tail. I lifted my head farther up and the thing on my shoulder slowly moved off but there was still a lightweight on it. I looked behind me to see D/N staring at me awkwardly.
She turned a jade green still with hints of pink, I couldn't pick out which though, whether it was a magenta or a light pink or both. She smiled a soft awkward smile and mumbled something as she slowly pulled away from my body. She got up and tried to walk away, with her tail still slightly intertwined with mine, but I tightened my tail's grip on her tail. She stopped and whipped her head around with a confused look upon her beautiful features.
“It's alright, I didn't mind,” I said and let go of her tail. I stood up and stretched my wings and legs. It was getting nearer to sunset by now. And the sky was turning all sorts of colors, as the clouds slowly turned colors to match the sky, kinda like how rainwings can change their scale color.

I stared at him as he stretched, why wasnt he angry, I mean I know he didn't exactly want to let go of me while he was asleep but he was asleep he didn't realize it was me, he was probably thinking of someone else.
I slowly walked towards the edge of the platform and sat, it was eerily quiet because it was sunset I presumed everyone was heading to their huts and turning in for the night. I looked back to where we had slept and I noticed that glory had been gone, im guessing she probably headed to her hut. I could hear a few birds cawing in the distance and some crickets. The sun was still shining through the trees, but instead of the usual day sun, this was the deep gold sun that made everything around it gold.
“You wanna go for a flight?” I called behind me to deathbringer. I didn't need an answer I simply spread my wings, and basked in the light a little.
POV: Deathbringer
“You wanna go for a flight?” I heard her voice call out, I turned my head to her about to reply but when I opened my eyes my jaw dropped, she had spread her wings in the golden light, her wings catching the light and they glowed and creating colors along the platform behind her. Her wings were an iridescent purple with hints of pink and orange, matching the sunset in front of her. Her scales were mixes of yellows, oranges, and pinks. She was beautiful. I don't know how I had fallen for her within a day but she had this effect on me that I couldn't shake.
POV: D/N
I stood up and basked a little longer, I crouched down and leaned forward off the platform. I pushed off and glided downwards, I shifted my wings and used the momentum of the air to push me back upwards, towards the edge of the platform. I was fully vertical and I whooshed past the platform and up into the tree canopy, I could hear wingbeats below me.
POV: Deathbringer
I saw her lunge forward so I walked to the edge of the platform to see where she went, right as I got to the edge she flew upwards right in front of me. I spread my wings and took off after her. We pass through the tree canopy, scaring a few birds on our way up. I pushed my wings to take me higher, moving my legs to gain more momentum, as if I were galloping.
We were above the rainforest and It was just trees for miles. She was glowing in the sun, she did a few tricks in the air. I moved forward and our wings lined up, I shifted over and touched my wing to hers, she looked over at me and smiled.
POV: D/N
I felt a wing graze mine and I looked over to see deathbringer in line with me. I smiled and I looked forward and saw a small clearing in the trees a ways in the distance. The sun was below the horizon now and the colors were slowly fading. I landed next to the tall grass in the clearing when we reached it.
Deathbringer landed next to me. The sky had finally darkened the moon was shining bright. The only light was coming from the moon. I looked over at deathbringer and smiled I motioned my head towards the field and he tilted his head questioning what I meant, I rolled my eyes and walked forward. With every step I took, fireflies jumped up.
POV: Deathbringer
She was so beautiful, the fireflies jumped in the air and circled her. As she walked, I found myself in awe of the fireflies and her. My jaw had dropped slightly, a smile evident on my face, as I stared at her as if she had told me she loved me. I think I might love her, I had fallen hard, and something about her drew me in, as no one had before. She soon turned around to face me and she had the most beautiful smile grazing her features. Her eyes were full of wonder as the fireflies sparkled in her eyes. Everything seemed to stop, nothing else mattered at that moment, just us, just her dancing under the moonlight. She looked at me and motioned for me to come closer. I was in awe of her but like a moth to a flame, I slowly inched forward. My mouth all the same was slightly agape with a smile unmovingly resting there.
“Close your mouth, if you're not careful you might start drooling," she chuckled as she tapped the bottom of my chin, I closed my mouth with a huge smile evident on my snout.
“Dance with me?” she said, even though the birds were making songs, there was no sound, “but there is no music” I hesitated, glancing at the ground “and I don’t know how to..” I trailed off when my eyes returned to hers, she had an eyebrow raised her smirk was wide.
“seems the oh-so-confident flirtatious deathbringer isn't so confident now” she teased softly, I scoffed sarcastically, with a smug smirk on my features. I lifted my head and stood tall. I sauntered towards her. I went past her, letting my tail brush her red face.
“getting cocky now, are we?” I questioned her, I continued to circle her. I stopped beside her and moved my head towards her ear, and whispered sweet nothings into her ear as her scales turned all sorts of colors, I smirked widely at this.
POV: D/N
I could feel his hot breath on my neck, his tail was running along my side, in a feather-light touch. It sent shivers down my spine. His husky voice started whispering in my ear, things that made me fall deeper into his grasp. He touched his snout to my cheek. I looked at him, I tried to speak but it only came out in a mumbled mess.
“Still want to dance?” he whispered, for a moment I stopped and looked at his genuine smile, and nodded, “I thought you didn't know how?” I inquired, and he chuckled softly.
“ill figure it out, I can't leave a beautiful lady hanging now, can I?” I chuckled, I quickly showed him how to, so there we were gliding in the grass, our necks wrapped around each other, our tails intertwined, and our wings tucked in. Nothing mattered at that moment, just the two of us. Even though there wasnt much sound, it seemed as though music was being made just for us, from whatever was around. The blades of grass were whistling, the rustling of leaves and the many birds singing out into the darkness. It was perfect.
Timeskip: 2 days later
Glory and I went to a local fruit stand and grabbed some fresh mangos to eat. We sat down in a splotch of sun with a table in between the two of us, talking as we ate. She fed some fruit to her sloth, silver, as we talked.
“So how have your classes been going at the academy?” she questioned, “made any new friends?” I swallowed the fruit in my mouth.
“My classes are going great, it's so interesting to learn about the other dragons from someone who is that species, instead of hearing stuff from books,” I answered thinking back to moments that I remember about some of my classes, “and I've definitely made some good friends, most of the dragons there are still not used to the whole idea of conversing with other dragon tribes in a friendly manner.” I chuckled softly.
“Hello ladies, how's it going?” a deep voice sounded from behind me. I turned to see a smirking deathbringer, he walked up to the table. In the process, he intertwined his tail with mine secretly. I smiled not acknowledging the presence of his tail.
“It's going alright deathbringer, what brings you over here?” glory skeptically inquired. I stood there and watched his features as he spoke.
“What? Am I not allowed to check in on the queen and her friend?” he chuckled glancing down at me quickly. I looked over to glory who was looking at me suspiciously, I gulped slightly and smiled nervously trying to act like nothing was going on.
“GLORY!!” a loud high pitched voice yelled, we all looked at each other and then looked in the direction of the voice. Jambu was coming straight for us, he landed next to the table panting.
“What is it now jambu?” glory rolled her eyes slightly, with a hiss in her voice. He took a moment to catch his breath before he started talking.
“Problem…angry dragons…your hut…” he breathed out still slightly out of breath. She sighed and rolled her eyes again before slowly standing up and walking away.
“Hopefully ill be back soon, dont have too much fun while im gone, lovebirds” she called out behind her as she walked, chuckling out loud to herself, we stared at her in disbelief as she walked away. “oh and D/N?” she turned around for a second to look at me.
“Y-yeah?” I gulped slightly, “be careful with him, he's tricky.” she pointed her tail towards deathbringer. She turned back around and took off.
“Im tricky?” deathbringer asked beside me. I laughed, and he looked down at me and laughed too.
I moved my head underneath his chin and rubbed my head against him, he wrapped one of his wings around my body and pulled me close.
I didn't want this love and attraction to seem rushed but I've definitely felt attraction this quickly, and that's what this is supposed to represent, attraction. Sorry if you didn't like this... but I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing it
