A Guide To Exploring Abandoned Churches
If you go alone, don’t bring a flashlight. You’ll see things you don’t want to.
Don’t bring groups bigger than 12.
Bring water and some snacks, but no wine.
If you have to sleep there, sleep in the sanctuary, but not on a pew.
If you try to read the hymnal, the words won’t be english anymore.
The Bibles will be blank until you confess.
Don’t go into the confession booth. The man talking to you is not the priest, and you don’t want to know what he really is.
The cross on the wall changes locations, don’t look at it for too long.
If you see someone praying at the altar, don’t approach them. If they approach you, don’t talk to them. Leave immediately.
If you hear the organ playing while you’re in the basement, know that your time is running out.
If it plays while you’re in the sanctuary, your time is up.
Take whatever you want, but if you find that one of your possesions is missing, don’t look for it. Let them have it. It’s not worth your life.
If you find a rosary, don’t put it on. It won’t help.
The water isn’t holy anymore. Throwing it on the demons in the shadows won’t work.
Drink the wine if you wish to never leave.
Don’t get seperated from your friends.
If you spend the night, leave at sunrise otherwise you’ll enter another plane of reality with no way back.
If you don’t spend the night, leave through the doors you came in.
You might look behind you after leaving and see that the church isn’t there anymore. It means that they took what they wanted.
Never enter the same abandoned church twice. Even (especially) if you forgot something inside. That’s a lure. On your second tour through, they will know enough about you to keep you there.
Before the rain
Art by Ian Llanas
Last night. A thick fog fell onto the beach and the surrounding areas. I was getting phone calls telling me I needed to get out to the beach asap to see it. They know I loved fog. Even though I had JUST gotten home from work and changed into my pjs - I threw on a jacket and crocks and drove over to the beach anyways.
Truthfully, I had to drive home through this thick fog, and I was doing everything in my power to ignore it. Isn’t that sad? Something I use to love is something that takes me to a rough place mentally.
Fog can be so picturesque and beautifully eerie in settings like this, but when you have to constantly live IN it, it takes the fun out of it for sure. Now when I see fog, it reminds me of mornings in Greenville. Riding to work. Having panic attacks every single morning. Riding through thick fog and rain almost daily. You think PNW is the only place with perpetual rain and fog? I did too. But apparently them saying the Jocassee region is technically a temperate rain forest - they were right.
At a glance, this is beautiful:
This was pretty much 80% of my days there. Gray winter and fog. But take that fog and place it over interstates, retail and industrial hell. Heavy traffic just to go to the grocery store. Parking lots. Walmart. That fog eventually made me feel like I was in hell. I didn’t take pictures of it when it wasn’t pretty. You get the idea.
Fog doesn’t belong on the beach. The reason I use to be so enamored by it is because it was something that NEVER happened here. But the rare occurrence happened last night. And boy am I dealing with combating some terrible memories today.
It still looked really cool tho.
I love the eerie storms on these volcanic worlds.

my sadness haunts me day and night, never leaving me.
Home.
— +you feel a sense of uneasiness as you step through the abnormally small doorway. The seemingly vacant apartment looked eerie, empty to the point it was almost unnerving. Luckily you were alone.. for now.+
— +you then hear footsteps. Fortunately for you they sounded human. But the source of it..? It didn’t look human. Not at all. The figure was at least 7”2, its blazer swaying slightly from an unseen force.+
“Ah.. one of you again. Apologies for the sudden scare. My name is [!Simon], the [[-.0nLY !!]] thing that resides here. Please, make yourself at home. =)”
— +the being reaches its hand out. Luckily it didn’t seem hostile. Best not agitate it.. whatever it is.+
