Probably a hot take, but I honestly don't see why people hate Preston. (Keep in mind I only have 24+ hours on the game) cuz he just wants to keep the Commonwealth safe. People are asking for help, and he wants to help.

(Bayne is my current playthrough character, she's joining the railroad/minutemen, she's disgusted by what the institute did)

So i just romance Preston and he is the cutest thing. But when he says “i don’t think the minute man regulations cover our relationship” i can’t help but think of that one South Park scene where the town finds out PC Principal and Strong Woman are sleeping together.

How I would improved Preston Garvey romance.
I really like Preston Garvey, I agree that he can be annoying sometimes. Unfortunately, many of his problems tie to the game mechanics and writing, so I will try my best to address these issues, but please understand. I'm not a game developer or a writer, I just play FO4 a lot and wanted to show my favourite compainion some love. Please enjoy :]
TW: Mention of suicide
Put the "another settlement needs your help" aside.
Either make Preston have a cool down or a limit on how many quest he can gave you at a time. Or just remove it completely and assign it to a radio or something.
Give some hints or any mentions of his depression and suicide thoughts earler in his conversations.
Instead of you saying you love him first, i think he should.
After he tells you how much you means to him you can flirt with him which with him saying how he has started to fell for the sole survivor and how he can't hide it anymore.
Kind of like Cait final conversion ( which does have some issuse )
I think he should also have some more conversions with Mama Murphy and the rest of his group. They all have idle talk with each other expect for Preston.
Give him a hobby he might mention while talking.
I think he would like sewing.
And this really adds nothing but i think he should give you flowers after you romance him. Like how Maccready gives ammo
