i'm not into ronance but perhaps i could be persuaded into reading a fic that actually let steve have realistically complex feelings about his best friend dating the girl who broke his heart and let him and robin talk about it. like that would be neat. but so far most of what i've seen is just like "and steve is happy for them :)" which like sure that's nice but where's the drama where's the emotion where are the complex character dynamics. where is steve feeling hurt that robin could so easily fall for someone who hurt him so much. where is steve worrying that robin could get her heart crushed like he did. where is robin feeling weird and guilty about being into her best friend's first love. where is robin being afraid that what happened to steve might happen to her too. like sorry but that is the only thing about robin and nancy being romantically involved that's actually interesting to me!!

this is my exact hold up with them like yes i think they could be cute and it’s a little too perfect that their name almost spells romance but i can’t get over all these points that op laid out i’ve yet to see a fanfic include ronance that touched on this at all like idk i’m totally fine with all of us just going ‘oh vecnas dead and max and eddie are fine’ but then it’s like okay so we’re skipping all that now we’re focusing on character dynamics you know and then ronance is just magically happening in the background without any conversations that need to happen beforehand robin and steve’s relationship is so important to me they love each other so much you know i just can’t accept that robin would get with steve’s ex without a conversation or knowing the whole truth of what happened with them say whatever you want but nancy cheated on steve that shit had to have hurt i just feel like robin’s loyalty and love for steve is stronger than a crush and honestly once that one post opened my eyes to buckingham it’s hard for me to picture robin with anyone else i personally would love to see more buckingham in fics if we can bring eddie back to life we can also bring chrissy back these tags are getting away from me also i’m high key a jancy shipper and i don’t like how they’re handled in fics it just feels messy the way ronance is usually presented stranger things
