This is the newest dinosaur discovered in the tiny-dinos series; Halszkaraptor! It was a small, duck-sized relative of the mongolian dromeasaur mahakala, and mighy be the weirdest dromeasaur itself with its gracile swan-like proportions. It's the 2nd semi-aquatic non-avian dinosaur discovered after spinosaurus. It likely hunted small fish and arthropods in the oases of the Mongolian desert in the late cretaceous times. It lived at the same time and place as the famous velociraptor and protoceratops in the Djadochta Fomation For this one i tried a new technique to shape feathers, drawing them on rather than making each wing feather on its own, they really were too small and fiddly for that. . We're closing in at the end of the first round of the tiny-dinos! I'm looking for suitable materials to mould and cast. Thylacoleo carnifex enters the arena! Thylacoleo, commonly called the "marsupial lion" was the largest carniverous marsupial to have ever lived, and could reach about the same weight class as an African lion! Some of it's closest relatives are the kangaroos and wombats. It has a series of adaptations suggesting it stems from an arboreal ancesstor, and it may have evolved carnivory from a mostly herbivorous diet along its evolutionary tree. It actually doesn't have usable canine teeth like most carnivorous mammals do, instead it used its well developed incisors, possibly in combination with its meathook "thumb" claws to deliver a fatal bite to the neck or back of the skull of its prey. . Still a wip, but here is a long promised update on the kelenken sculpt 2.0. Been working on it on and off for a while now, and i keep running into problems with it. I think the glue in the masking tape i foolishly tried to use again (after learning not to while making the platybelodon), has been deteriorating the bulk layer of clay, and the the bulk layer has been drying out and cracking up the outer layer😓 so much back and forth and so much material.. Here it is! Kelenken guillermoi. This apex predator ruled Argentina ca 17 million years ago. One of the largest of the known terror birds, it had the largest skull of any known bird ever! The holotype specimin sported a skull meassuring 70 centimeters, and it might not have been fully grown yet. This callback to the non-avian dinosaurs likely used it's long and well-developed legs to ambush and run down the unique megafauna of South America, dispatching them with vicious kicks, pecks reminiscent of being picked by a pickaxe, or by grabbing them and violently throwing them to the ground, like it's closestliving relatives; the seriema. . Finally! I've been working on this for a LONG time! It feels really good to have the sculpture finished. I learned a lot making this one, and you can see a clear progression from the first model i posted, and this one. This is sort of a re-take on that first model, tho the actual remake of the first one is still early on in the making, being a scantly clad armature for now.
