She shakes her head but looks a little dazed.

Jade shifts to sit in his lap, her legs hanging off to the side.

She snuggles closer to him and gets comfortable. She could totally fall asleep right where she is.

Jade tenses up the second she feels his fingers graze the scar on her back.

"Please.... Please don't.. please.."

Her heart begins to pound in her chest again. She's trying to keep her voice steady, trying to keep her breathing even, trying to keep her body from trembling. She doesn't look up at him, not wanting him to see the sheer panic in her eyes.

She grins the hem of his swim trucks so hard her knuckles turn white. She knows DJ is speaking to her but the words are muffled, like she's at the end of a tunnel, so she doesn't know what he said.

She opens her mouth to ask for help but the only thing that escapes her lips is a whimper.

She doesn't try to resist him at all, so it's easy for him to tip her chin up so she's looking at him. Her eyes are wide and her face is pale. She's almost hyperventilating.

"DJ.. I... I can't... I can't breathe...."

She watches and does her best to mimic the way he breathes, tears forming in the corners of her eyes when she can't do it as slowly as he does.

She raises one of her shaking hands slowly, reaching out to place it directly over his diaphragm so she can feel each breath he takes.

"Okay."

Being able to feel each breath he takes and how long he holds it before exhaling helps her to slowly get her breathing more in sync with his. It takes a few more minutes but her body begins to stop trembling, there's less fear in her eyes and the color begins to return to her face.

Jade keeps her hand pressed against DJ's chest even after she's calmed down fully. It takes her a moment to fully comprehend what he just witnessed. For a split second her face pales again and her eyes go wide once more.

She tips her head down slightly, allowing her hair to fall forward and hide her face from him. She allows the tears to silently roll down her face. When she speaks, her voice is so soft that she isn't sure if he can hear her or not.

"I'm sorry..."

Jade was caught completely off guard by being pulled into a tight hug. It doesn't take her long to wrap hers arms around him and practically cling to him as she lets the emotions she tends to keep bottled up, rise to the surface.

She presses her face against his chest and lets herself sob, her body shaking from the sheer force.

She holds her breath while he looks into her eyes, trying to read the emotions she sees there.

She doesn't have to wait long before she gets an answer to her question, just not in the way she was expecting.

She presses her body tightly against him, and kisses him back.

She takes his face in her hands again, wiping away any tears near the corners of his eye, shaking her head.

"It's the scars on my back. Sometimes having them touched gives me a panic attack because of how I got them. It isn't your fault, you didn't know. I should have told you... You deserve to know."

"Lilith gave them to me, with her trident. They go from my left shoulder down to my right hip. She left me to bleed out in an abandoned alleyway near the place Dante was staying at that time. To add insult to injury I guess, I don't know."

"She had kidnapped me a few weeks before then, as a way to get Dante to fall in line since he worked for her back then. I was distraught when I found out, told him I never wanted to see him again." She lets out a bitter laugh.

"He told me some things before I left that day and over the next few weeks I couldn't get them, or him off my mind. I had to go see him. It didn't matter that I was on house arrest for my own safety because of Lilith. I just.. I had to see him."

"I took a shortcut to get to the hotel he was staying at, through the alleyway, that's where I got ambushed. She jabbed her trident into my shoulder, ripped it down my back. At some point I must have passed out from how painful it was because the next thing I know I'm waking up in the hospital, again.."

She hugs him back, any remaining tension slowly leaving her body. It's then that she realizes just how tired she is but she also doesn't want to go home yet.

"DJ, would you like to cuddle on the couch or something? Although I might fall asleep if we do."

She gives him a tired smile.

"Okay. We should probably change clothes too."

Jade follows along behind him, noticing just how cold the air is outside of the water.

"I think being in the water for so long did warm me up a bit. I can feel how cold the room is now that I'm out of the water."

Jade quickly dries her body off as best as she can. She is more worried about how wet her hair is and getting it as dry as she can first. She watches him towel off, wanting to ask about his scars.

"DJ, how did you get some of the scar you have? What did you have in mind?"

She glances up from trying to wring water out of her hair so she can pay attention.

"Yeah. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I can wait until you're ready."

She gives up on trying to dry her head and opts to wrap it in the towel instead. She wishes she had another towel to wrap around herself while she waits for DJ to finish getting changed.

"I would love some hot chocolate!'

In the short time it takes him to get dressed, Jade is already shivering. She rubs her hands up and down her arms, trying to make herself a little warmer. She can't help but blush when he catches her.

"Probably a good idea.. I'm going to try off the rest of the way and then change. I'll be back in a moment."

Jade takes another towel and uses it to dry herself off. She dries herself off again once she takes her swimsuit off. It doesn't take her long to change back into her sweater and the leggings she was wearing when she first arrived. She makes her way towards the kitchen.

"Do you need help with anything?"

She smiles back at him and steps into the kitchen more.

"Hot chocolate! What flavors do you have? I'll drink almost any kind of hot chocolate."
