a concept in the sofia the first fandom that i find lowkey terrifying is the entire idea of sorcerers. now this might be addressed in season four, as i am only on season three, but to me, it seems like every sorcerer we've met so far is extremely powerful. with a wave of a wand, they can do absolutely anything.

i never quite understood why cedric wanted the amulet so badly because the way i see it, he's already powerful enough to take over the kingdom. the only reasoning i can think of is that cedric wants the amulet so that nobody has the power to stop him, though this is actively disproved in the episode when he gets the amulet and tries to extract its power. that episode just doesn't make sense to me because i feel like half of the things cedric got from the amulet are things he can already do as a sorcerer. but that's a bit of a tangent beside the point.

the real thing i'm wondering about is this: how do kingdoms ensure that sorcerers do not have too much power? like, i feel like it would be a valid concern for most of these kingdoms with mega-powerful sorcerers to try and suppress the abilities of their sorcerers so that they can't try and take over the kingdom or endanger the people. but there doesn't seem to be any sort of acknowledgement of that.

i think in the context of the universe, it would make so much sense if there was some sort of magic suppressant for sorcerers that they have to have once they reach a certain level of magical ability. maybe not in every kingdom, but i could definitely see it being a thing in a kingdom like enchancia, which is sort of traditional.

not only does this have some crazy angst potential, but i also think that something like that would make the story make so much more sense. is there something i'm forgetting or not considering?
