I will never forget that special day.

It is the day that my Mother was diagnosed with severe lung cancer and brought to the Hospital. She was a non-stop smoker till her last breath. So while on my way visiting her I bought some assorted flower arrangements because nothing is more natural in these occasions. Especially on Valentine's Day.

But then she kept asking me "Why. All. These. Flowers!!!".

Like she couldn't remember what day we were or simply being in an Hospital.

But I personally knew that this, was her usual Mother-Dark-Side.

So while repeating myself more and more louder that it was Valentine's Day. The 14th of February. The "lover's day". Happy Valentine Mom!!! Everyone in the emergency room had turned their heads toward us with such a beautiful smile on their faces and, finally like she had no choice, she smiled back at me but without saying any words. My eyes were all wet, I'd stop breathing for a few seconds while my heart wasn't beating anymore. Then a few hours later she passed away.

Earlier in that morning I left the Hospital and, on my way back home, I realized that I was liberated, free, relieved of any pain on my chest and started to take bigger and bigger breath much more easily. Even feeling dizzy. But I was now able to begin a new life. My life. The one that I never had. And finally started to smile and be happy at 48 years old.
