a lot of people asked about necks but i don’t  much to say so i covered a little of the muscles too HERE”S A MORE DETAILED muscle diagram if you’re interested! don’t overwork the neck muscles bc in a lot of people they actually don’t rly show up at all ALSO I tend to draw longer necks out of habit ,some people have shorter necks

REAL LIFE REFS ARE THE BEST GO STARE AT SOME NECKS

#03 _ Neck, sternocleidomastoid (side notes)

Alright, this time instead of doing a male/female comparison, I mostly tried to deepen my understanding of this muscles and the neck in general. I honestly really needed it.

#03 _ Neck, Sternocleidomastoid (side Notes)

So… the sternocleidomastoid starts round and sharp, attached to the sternum, and ends broad and flat, attached to the cranium. The joint over there is a little bit behind the ear (which wow, sounds obvious but is an important information). The fact that it starts sharp and ends flatter of course define its shape, and how shadows plays on that. The muscle contracts when the head turns, so that’s when it’s more visible.

The pit of neck (in green above) is defined by the two tendons attached to the sternum (my anatomy book draws them quite far away from each other, but I’ve always seen/drawn that part much more narrow… I guess it changes from person to person though).

#03 _ Neck, Sternocleidomastoid (side Notes)

This last part is new and helped me more than I thought. Surrouding the muscles there are two big triangular spaces: the anterior triangle stands  between the sternocleidomasoid and goes up until the bottom of the lower jaw. It’s basically where the throat is. The posterior triangles are at both sides of the neck muscles, and goes from there to back to trapezius (shoulder muscles). There are also two smaaaaaaall spaces between the two muscles of the sternocleidomastoid (in blu above) that could be visible in some circumstances.

Well, all of this helped me shade the last Ellyna’s drawing at the bottom, and for the first time, I felt like I knew what I was doing :3 Yay!
