One day.

I. Pretentious

Pairing: Tom "Iceman" Kazansky x OC!Nurse!Fem! (Yup I know some of you may not like it but I'm not comfortable writing with Y/N, sorry.)

Summary: The meeting between a shy, sensitive, introverted young woman and an uncompromising, cold, arrogant pilot. The meeting between the sun and the ice, the light and the darkness, the heat and the cold, two opposite beings that nevertheless everything will attract.

Warning: I plan to take your soul out of your body with so much fluff *evil laugh*. The pure love story as we all love it and melt for it. Also forgive me for the mistakes to come, English isn't my first language and i'm still improving with it.

There probably will be a taglist for those who are interested in, don't hesitate to show up to be added 🛎️.

One Day.

"Oh Helen I really don't know. I think I'm gonna stay here quietly."

Her friend and colleague poked her head out of her closet and stared at her sitting cross-legged on the bed.

"What for? Is there a party planned here? If not then you have no good reason to stay locked up here alone probably moping around." She inspected the garment she had just taken out of the closet before putting it back in and continued snooping.

"I'm not going to mope about myself, where do you get that from." She giggled.

"You're going to stay here alone, it's so sad, only sad people stay home, to mope." Lisa rolled her eyes at her roommate's words, there was nothing sad about staying home and enjoying an evening alone. What Helen couldn’t understand because she was the opposite of Lisa, while she wanted to enjoy time quietly spent with herself, Helen as for her only thought to go out and persisted in taking Lisa with her. Except that this kind of evening only made her tired, too many people around her and too much noise, too much of everything for a young introvert woman like her. Helen came out of the closet with two clothes on hangers that she put flat on the bed next to Lisa.

"You're not making it easy on me with your wardrobe. We'll say this will do."

Lisa glanced at the flowing white shirt and the black tulle skirt making a doubtful pout.

"I'll get you a pair of heels, no way you're going out in your sneakers." She pretended to be crossed by a shiver of disgust before leaving the room and Lisa let herself fall back on her bed.

"Get up and get active Liz!" She shouted from the living room on the first floor. The young woman prayed to be struck by a sudden gastro for not being able to accompany her. She then got up painfully and let herself slide out of bed, taking place in front of her dressing table, she removed the hairpins that held her bun which she had to style for work and let her hair fall in cascade on her shoulders. No, she had to, wanted to remain discreet. She grabbed a rubber band that was lying around and put her hair in a high wavy ponytail, perfect for this.

Grabbing her clothes from the bed she quickly changed and had only just finished when Helen entered the room with a wide smile stretching her lips.

"Perfect!" She approached to blouse the shirt she had tucked into the skirt and placed the high heels shoes at her feet that Lisa put on and lost her balance for a split second once perched.

"Starting tomorrow I'm looking for a new roommate."

Helen waved her hand as if to sweep away her words and pulled her by the hand to leave the room, the young woman grabbed her small purse as she passed and descended the stairs carefully so as not to find herself walking down them on her butt.

"You'll see, we'll see so many men in uniform there! It's so exciting, there's no way I'm going home alone."

"Speak for yourself." Lisa muttered to herself, glancing in the hallway mirror and sighed as she unhooked her jacket from the coat rack. "Danielle and Gina will already be here, you'll be well taken care of." She whimpered plaintively and stamped her feet like a child as Helen pushed her out of their home.

The ride to the club was silent, at least for her, silence being something foreign to Helen. Once there, she handed the cab money to pay for the ride, climbed out of the car and felt Helen put her arm around hers.

"Lisa try to smile you'll scare everyone away." She looked at her friend and a falsely cheerful smile appeared on her lips. "We'll settle for that."

When they pushed open the doors she froze for a second at the sight of all those people and her poor ears were assaulted by the music that was too loud for her taste. As the two young women made their way to the bar, they saw their colleagues Danielle and Gina waving at them in the distance, already meeting two men in uniforms. Helen giggled and put her purse on the bar.

"At least we have one advantage tonight, nurses attract men."

Great, all she had to do was invent a new job to be left alone.

"A Dry Martini!" She yelled to the bartender over the bar, loud enough for him to hear her over the music, Lisa arched an eyebrow and gave her an amused look that meant "Really?" which made her friend laugh as she shrugged and started to waddle around looking around.

"Target in sight, look at that tall, muscular man." Helen took her drink in one hand, her bag in the other and prepared to wiggle toward her target. "Be wise." She said to Lisa before frowning "No precisely in your case don’t be too wise." She addressed a wink to her before moving away and Lisa raised the eyes to the sky amused.

"It's not pretty for a young woman to roll her eyes." She heard to her left and turned her head to a blond mustachioed man.

"And what would be pretty in this case for a young woman?" Asked she to the man who began to imitate a very cliché chuckle that had the merit to make her giggle.

"I'm Goose!" He said before nodding his head in greeting and pointing to the free space next to him.

"Goose? I would feel very sorry for you if you told me it wasn't just a nickname." Lisa then stepped forward placing her small purse on the bar.

"That's my callsign." She tilted her head slightly to the side with a sorry look on her face to let him know she didn't know what he meant. "I'm an aeronaval navigator."

An "Oh" formed on her lips, then she nodded and glanced around, pointing to the crowd.

"So all these people in uniform, are they pilots or navigators?"

"Yes Ma'am."

"And do they all have such funny callsigns?" He took on a falsely indignant look.

"Are you kidding me?"

"Oh no I wouldn't dare! You serve your country uh ..." She glanced down at his uniform looking for any indication of his rank. "Lieutenant?" He nodded proudly. "It's to your credit, from now on you can have any ridiculous name you like." She teased him to add a layer and he brought his hand to his chest to simulate a blow to his heart.

"Alright Goose, why are you alone at the bar when this place is filled with young women just waiting to be wooed by a military man?" She took a seat on the leather stool next to him and asked the bartender for a cocktail before turning her attention back to the blond man who held up his ring finger to reveal the wedding ring. She pouted and nodded. "So many hearts have just been broken tonight."

Their laughter mingled together and they toasted then she waddled on her seat to better sit, surprised of so much ease of her part. It is necessary to say that he putted her at ease a lot.

"Okay, I'm curious, what are the callsigns of other of your peers here?"

"Well, for starters you see the little leprechaun running the ladies over there?"

"Wait, there's a lot of leprechauns running around the ladies tonight." She giggled and he almost swallowed his drink wrong.

"Good point! Miss?"

"Lisa."

"Well nice to meet you Lisa, my real name is Nick." He held out his arm to point to a short, pretentious-looking brown hair across the room. "This is Maverick, my pilot who is trying to win a bet."

"What kind of bet?" She turned her head towards him and when he opened his mouth to say something but paused she shook her head. "Nop, never mind I'm not sure I want to know."

He chuckled not without embarrassment and scanned the room with his eyes, pointing to men whose callsigns he would state, "Sundown, Wolfman, Hollywood, Chipper, Slider."

As she looked around the room, her gaze was drawn to a blond man at the other end of the bar, sunglasses on his nose, bringing his glass to his lips.

"Who is it?" She asked Goose without looking away from the stranger.

"Oh, it's Iceman."

She frowned, confused.

"Iceman? Is he that unpleasant?"

"Oh, it's up to you. But it's mostly to do with the way he flies." He was about to add something when the brown hair leprechaun joined them and gave Lisa a seductive smile.

"Hey there."

She looked at Goose amused who shrugged with an apologetic smile for his friend's behavior.

"He probably hasn't filled the bet yet." She said to him and Goose came to toast his glass to hers.

"Mav here is Lisa, young woman abandoned at the bar who understood who were the real men to date tonight." He said to Maverick speaking of himself which had the merit of making her laugh.

"Your approach was worth it." Nick brought his hand to his chest thanking her with a humble nod.

"Liiiiiiz!" Turning her head to her right she saw Helen happily raising her glass in her direction coming up to a tall dark-haired man who had his arm around her neck.

"Liz, you loosened up, I'm proud of you!" She threw out a little too happily, obviously tipsy. "He’s - " She glanced at the name tag of the man she was with to remember his name. "Slider."

"Slider, didn't you want to be a pilot? What happened?" Nick threw mockingly at the man.

"Goose, you such a dickhead, whose butt did you kiss to get in here?"

"Oh the list is long but distinguished."

Charming, she said to herself as her gaze passed from one to the other as they passed the ball back and forth.

"Hey Mother Goose, how’s it going?"

She turned her head as she heard the voice of a newcomer in the small group and her eyes couldn’t take her eyes off the man who had been at the bar a few minutes before, she found his eyes so beautiful that she found it hard to look away before he caught her in an obvious staring. He was even more attractive without his sunglasses, which gave him already a so sexy attitude. She bit the interior of her cheek to her thoughts to return to the present moment.

"Pete Mitchell, Tom Kazansky." Goose was making the introductions between the two pilots and she glanced at her friend who was observing the situation with a blissful look on her face, if she wasn't hammered already there she wasn't far from it.

"And who are these lovely ladies?" Tom asked, looking at Lisa and Helen in turn.

"Helen." Said the denizen pointing her index finger at herself and then pointed at her friend. "Lisa."

It was at that exact moment that Lisa's social skills and extroversion took a backseat, when she found herself surrounded by too many people and their eyes turned to her. To socialize with one person was one thing, two at the most, but this was too much, especially in front of such imposing people. She looked at them in turn like a lamb trapped by wolves and her gaze was caught by Iceman's who gave her a charming smile.

"Iceman."

"What kind of name is that? You belong to the Justice League or what?”

Goose burst out laughing, quickly joined by Maverick, Helen looked at her with her mouth open, never having heard her friend show such confidence, Slider raised an eyebrow and Iceman didn’t lose his smile amused by her reaction.

She bit her tongue, not knowing what had gotten into her. It was too much confidence for one evening, she put it down to the cocktail she had drunk.

"No, I'm just a pilot. But probably the best." He added, raising his gaze to Maverick, who was leaning on his elbows on the counter of the bar, and answered with an arrogant smile.

"What pretension, does it come with every pilot or is it in addition?"

Maverick laughed silently at this remark about his rival and Tom looked at her again with a smirk.

"Helen let's go." She declared as she grabbed her friend by the arm.

"But-”

She didn't give her time to protest. "You've had enough to drink for tonight. And I like you too much to leave you in the middle of these idiots."

Helen then followed her friend, dragging her feet, and Slider patted Ice on the back as he drank his shot in one go.

"You know what Slider, one day I'm going to marry that girl." He said as he put his sunglasses back on and chewed his chewim-gum. She had caught his eye, it hadn't taken more than that for a sudden interest in the young woman to awaken in him, and he didn’t intend to stop there.
