Tony Stark Defense Squad - Tumblr Posts

When it comes to favorite characters in whatever fandom I'm in I tend to have multiple lists.

Favorite hero, Favorite Villain, Favorite side character...that sort of thing. Characters positions on the list change as the story progress' and how they develop through the story. It also depends on which version of the character I am talking about.

There is one character that will forever be at the top of my list.

Tony Stark from the MCU

Now before anyone leaves or decides to rang on my favorite character I would just like to tell you why.

The first time I saw the Iron Man movie was during a very low time in my life. I was struggling with multiple different things all happening at once which were not kind to my mental health.

I was young, barely a teen, and I was tired.

I saw this character. He was not a hero right from the start, heck he wasn't even portrayed as a very good person (not the worst but still). He was brought low, he voiced his thoughts on just giving up. I then watched him pull himself out and do his best to make himself a better person.

Through the movies I watched him slowly progress into what he wanted to be, which makes sense because such things are NOT quick fix changes to make.

Seeing this character struggle not just physically but also struggling with his own trauma inspired me to keep going.

He isn't perfect, he makes mistakes just like everyone else, he tried his best to make up for those mistakes in some of the few ways he knew how, he is the most realistic human character in the MCU to me.

He is my favorite because of his struggle, because he tries so hard, he actually WANTS to be better and actively tries to BE better instead of just saying it and not actually doing anything different.

Once I started reading some of the comics I grew to have favorites between the comic versions and MCU versions. I also am disappointed we didn't get so many amazing developments/friendships/moments that were in the comics.

Just because he is my favorite character doesn't mean I HATE other characters. Dont get me wrong I do have some that I dislike but that is my own business.

I also don't agree with some decisions made in the writing of some of the movies but that's just how it goes.

So please

be kind

We all have our favorite characters that we love for one reason or another. Some, like myself, have more personal reasons for why we love the characters we love.

So go enjoy content of your favorites, be happy, don't spread hate just because someone doesn't have the same opinion as you.

while i like iron man 2, the scene where tony is opening up about howard to nick fury is legitmately revolting to me. here tony is talking about how he never felt loved by his own father, and that howard was HAPPY when he sent tony away to school, only to be invalidated by nick who literally claims “oh you’re wrong” “i know your dad better than you do”, basically implying that tony is unreasonable to feel unloved by his father

and what’s worse is that the movie later proves that nick is CORRECT because howard is all like “tony you’re my greatest creation” except the guy is drunk and he kicked little tony out not too long ago. marvel fuck off with your abusive father apologism

Tony Starks Skepticism Is Born Out Of His Life Experiences.

Tony Stark’s skepticism is born out of his life experiences.

Tony ‘isn’t a team player’ and ‘doesn’t stick to plans’ not because of his ego or ‘narcissism’; rather because his hero (Yinsen) abandoned the plan & sacrificed himself thereby ensuring the safety of Tony’s own life. Tony is just following in Yinsen’s footsteps. He is trying to emulate his hero, and he is justifiably wary of people (even well-intentioned heroes) who emulate his antagonists.

In Tony’s personal experience, words have no weight. Promises change. There are already people who made promises of trust & being a team, only to misuse that trust and back-stab him. Ideals and ideas (even that of Avengers itself) can be corrupted. Hence, he doesn’t blindly accept slogans and platitudes offered.

Because Tony knows the reality: An assertion does not a truth make.

everyone always focuses on Sokovia and Ultron and Tony's involvement but no one ever thinks about how Bruce was also involved completely because they're both scientists. no one thinks about Wanda purposefully going in and digging in Tony's head, amplifying his PTSD and putting visions of all his friends dead in his head with the intent of making Tony create Ultron

Everyone always focuses on blaming Tony for the bomb that killed Wanda's parents but no one thinks about Tony being so shit faced he couldn't see straight at that time bec he was so deep in self-medicating his trauma that he could not even run his company and that it was Obidiah Stane that was the one in charge of the company and illegally selling the weapons that killed her parents

Everyone focuses on Tony selling weapons in the first movie but no one thinks about how it was Howard Starks company and that Tony was groomed from birth to run it and that he had tried multiple times to make something else of the company but was constantly shut down with guilt tripping until he was kidnapped and he forced the manufacturing to end

Everyone focuses on Tony being "conceited" and "arrogant" and not "caring about anyone but himself" but no one thinks about how every single action he makes in his movies are about protecting the people he loves and cares for. His biggest fear is his friends- not himself- dying. he goes into every battle he's in fully prepared to die and does make the sacrifice play many many times

everyone always focuses on what Tony did wrong, but no one thinks about how much he has grown and how he spends every single waking moment trying to be a better and better man who cares so deeply about everyone and is trying to protect everyone the only way he knows how- and that is with the brain and intellect that had been the only thing about Tony that was ever praised about

IRON MAN WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT TONY STARK. TONY STARK CREATED THE SUIT OUT OF A BOX OF SCRAPS IN A CAVE WITH NOTHING BUT A WILL TO SURVIVE AND A DETERMINATION TO FIX HIS MISTAKES AND TO HELP PEOPLE.

AND THAT IS WHY HE IS EARTH’S GREATEST DEFENDER.
