Untitled softball fic, buck/tommy

Thought we might have finished this but @liminalmemories21 and I were both crazy busy this week. We did manage this little snippet of joy, so happy 911-return eve.

Buck parks himself directly behind home plate for the tournament, as much so he’s not clearly rooting for either side as for a clear angle of Tommy crouching behind home plate. Maddie joins him with Jee, looks up, blinks at Tommy's ass, nicely framed.  "Right, so we're here for the view?"

He shrugs, because can you blame a guy?  She tilts her head and nods.  "It's a good view." 

He gives her a mock shocked look. "And you, a married woman."

"Married, not dead," she tells him placidly and hands Jee an apple slice.

Chim waves at them when he comes up to bat, and Buck holds his breath through his three strikes.  Maddie gives him a betrayed look when he cheers. "It would have killed your boyfriend to let him have one?"

"Tommy's not the one who struck out," he protests.  "Not my fault he’s good at catching."  Then flushes, and can’t look his sister in the eye as she snorts in laughter.

You know how we can very easily tell Buddie ain't happening this season? The 9-1-1 instagram now wants nothing to do with Buddie canon and anti-BuckTommy comments. Why in the world would a social media manager remove comments about a specific ship, whether positive (Buddie) or negative (BuckTommy) unless they were attempting to send a direct message? Why would anyone care about the fandom baiting itself unless it's causing more harm than good?

Between the death threats and the fics and speculation about sexuality OUT IN THE OPEN WHERE PEOPLE CAN SEE YOU...Buddie fandom really stepped in this time, didn't they.

Once again seeing/hearing the whole "no one shipped BuckTommy before it went canon" and it always makes me giggle.

For the majority of the fandom, for the majority of shippers of course they're not gonna look at Buck and ship him with the side character from 3 random episodes of Season 2 that he'd literally never met until Season 7...

But apparently my crackshipping ass was that was far ahead of the curve or something...

What Happens in Texas - because apparently I saw Chim call the water bomber in Season 2, decided it was actually Tommy in the plane before Tim confirmed it, and figured "well makes sense that Tommy'd be in Texas for the wildfire soooo "what if?" Jan 27th 2021
