I'm in shambles every time I think about them.

Arata truly is the most unhinged guy in chihayafuru and I absolutely love him for that.

He chases his friends who are on a train with his bicycle, he breaks free of his quarantine and interrupts a live interview with the meijin, and shouts at him to not quit while coughing wildly and being actively held down by people. He starts info-dumping paragraphs about karuta on the live stream. He confesses to the girl he likes a microsecond later after he realises his feelings. He starts playing 20 questions with the meijin mid-tournament because he realizes he needs to reach out to people. The elders of the karuta association are all fawning because, "he is meijin wataya's grandson, look at him being calm and composed" and then the camera pans out to him bolting because he is having stomach problems.

He hugs poles when he gets rejected.

"I'm not leaving this to something like luck!"
