the fact that, after having to kill detective carter, ruth is like "move away from the girl" and lee is like "mom, please-" and ruth, voice distorting, shouts "dont call me that" before lee has to shoot her too...

my heart broke.

her relationship with her mom was all she had, literally. but maybe, after ruth started delivering dolls and watching the carnage, maybe eventually her mom was eroded until she was completely taken over by the devil. tbh it had been on edge since the day they first met Longlegs.

and perhaps that distortion Lee heard when she called her mom, after seeing the remains of the family where Longlegs left the note deciphered to "DOWN LOW TOO SLOW", was that distortion/corruption by the devil coming through...

either way... it's so sad...

I'm stuck on thoughts of Ruth. How she's still wearing the same knit sweater around the house 20 years later. How she spends her days in front of the TV in a semi-conscious state. Surrounded by piles upon piles of clutter, because it's the only thing she can have any control of.

Consequently, this "habit" drives her daughter away. Makes her dread visiting her. Even setting foot in that house.

Ruth has her own dread to deal with. Even answering the phone is a coin toss. It could be Lee checking in... or a demand for bloodshed.

So she let's it ring, and ring, and ring, and even then it isn't private. HE listens in. The hydra or its head. Another thing she can't fully control. It may not even be Lee on the other line. It could be another trick. Something else HE could laugh at her about.

Just thinking about Ruth. 🙂‍↕️
