HE WANTS A MAN!
Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan (Ilya Repin, 1883-85) x LONGLEGS (Directed by Osgood Perkins, 2024)
More miscellaneous Satan Family Headcanons. YAHOOO lots (and I mean LOTS) of rambling below!!!
How do you like your steak?
Lee:
Medium Rare. It's not something she eats or indulges in often - honestly, Lee has a bird-like diet at times, indulging in snacks and nibbles to keep her energy up.
She gets so wrapped in work that she forgets to eat, so she aims to correct that with bulky breakfasts of granola and yogurt. Dinner suffers the most with how busy she gets, though, so steak isn't something she regularly gets to have. She'll tear up a cheeseburger when she gets in the mood/has the opportunity.
Ruth:
Rare. She likes it bloody. The fattier the better, also. She likes gnawing on those bits before discarding the gristle on the end of her plate.
She wouldn't do this in front of Lee - it's impolite. Can you imagine her daughter seeing her like that??? No way. But if/when she eats nowadays, she doesn't really care about her current company seeing.
(Which is bad for other reasons. Dale enjoys seeing her tear apart her meal. Funny to see a hare with such sharp teeth. Animalistic? Yes please.)
Dale:
Rare as well, but LOVES for the meat to be charred while keeping that level of cooking. He happily muses to Ruth that he LOVES that burning, ashy taste that's left on the fat when the steak is barbecued in the way he prefers.
Compliments to the chef, since he so dutifully picked out the BEST cuts the supermarket had to offer and cooked it juuuuust right.
He insists on doing the cooking when the pair indulge. Which is fine by Ruth. Not like anyone is going to see him doing it in the backyard.
They only really eat big dinners, and only together, on certain days.
This feeds into another headcanon I have:
Dale insists that he and Ruth have a little celebration on January 13th every year. Some fun for the adults before the kiddo comes home to visit, haw haw..
"It's our anniversary, riiiight? That's plenty to toast to!"
He buys a bottle of red wine to go along with their fancy meal (in this case, I'm thinking a steak dinner, althought it could change over the years) - specifically because he knows it's Ruth's drink of choice.
This is something he also loves boasting about. I know you so well, don't I? I know you better than ANYONE.
Ruth has stopped fighting his desperation over the years, at least regarding this. It took a while, but he won her over.
"Sure. Fine. An anniversary."
She won't call it theirs. That's too much commitment. Even though she wore the ring he gave her for years.
"We'll eat over it. But I'm eating in front of the TV, and you're not watching me."
Dale likes calling Ruth "Ruthie" because it gets under her skin, but also because it sounds better when paired with "Lee." Lee and Ruthie! Ruthie and Lee!
Lee really isn't a fan of sweets, especially not extra sugary ones like icing - which I touched in my other headcanons post. She prefers tart desserts, so for some birthdays, Ruth would bake her a lemon meringue pie, or a key lime pie, depending on what Lee was in the mood for that year.
She doesn't comment on it. She especially ignores it when she hears him singing it, turning her name into a little song as he creeps up the basement stairs.
Ruth has a knack for memorization - something that really helped her through med school. She only has to read a piece of text, whether that be a speech or notes, to memorize it completely.
That happens when he's especially bored and craving her attention. Not a chance.
Lee is ambidextrous and double-jointed. Think of this in any of the terms that you please (😏). She favours her right hand most days, but sometimes she'll switch to her left if she wants to subtly show off around her peers.
Dale gave himself the middle name "Ferdinand" because "Dale Ferdinand Kobble" sounds like a really sick and groovy musician.
At a certain point, Ruth's hair got so long that she couldn't braid it herself anymore.
So, begrudgingly, she gets Dale to braid it when she needs it out of the way. She has to deal with him breathing down her neck, but he has very precise and careful hands, and she needs the help...
Dale enjoys naming all of Ruth's stray dolls and stuffed animals that are sitting in various boxes around the house. He's not allowed to touch or move them, but he'll sometimes wave to them as he walks out the door to run his errands.
Lee has a bad habit of chewing her pens and pencils. Ruth used to try to get her to stop by putting a rubber covering on them, you know, the things that are typically meant to help with your grip? But she'd just chew on those too. The habit started when she was a kid and never really went away.
Ruth enjoyed pressing various plants into pages of books - primarily the journals that she used to write in. She fell off of that habit, despite journaling from her early teens into adulthood, but opening an old diary (all of which she keeps close by, under the couch in the living room where Dale will NEVER FIND THEM) and finding a leaf neatly pressed between its pages is always a delight.
Dale delights in using the corniest idioms. It's raining cats and dogs. Easy as pie. Once in a blue moon. Piece of cake. Curiosity killed the cat. Oh, Ruth is angry at him? Looks like he's in the doghouse tonight! Etc. Very infuriating.
When she was younger, around 10 or 11, Lee learned about the concept of Guardian Angels. Ruth wasn't sure where, exactly, probably from one of her books. Lee was an avid reader and artist in her spare time growing up. She learned a lot of neat tidbits.
This was a fairly innocent fascination, Ruth thought, until Lee began describing her Angel as tall, pale, and ever-smiling... Ruth demanded Lee tell her where she got this idea from, but Lee simply shrugged and went back to her reading. She sometimes dreamt about someone like that, that's all.
Ruth didn't ask about it again.
i think he’d like cats … cats don’t know the entanglings of evil or place judgement, they only see a hand willing to pet

Hello lovely people, here are my first attempts at making Longlegs phone wallpapers, hope you enjoy these. 😊 Made in Canva from movie screenshots.
i think dale cries so much because he mourns the children he murders by proxy. especially with lee.
in the interrogation room, he wiggles a little in his seat like hes gonna jump up and give her a hug. think hes happy to see her as she is. that she was allowed to grow up. to see her older than nine despite her being kinda stunted. he practically watched her grow up.
i think he is more overcome with grief than what is shown. with how nicolas describes his character, its not really a stretch that the crying is a genuine show of empathy though he doesnt stop because at this point, he's a vessel for darkness.
he knows little autonomy both physically and mentally. his face not his own, he doesn't even own a house. what little he has is his grief, his anguish, and the devil.
or maybe he is just evil and does it all willingly and doesnt care, probably enjoys being a pawn like a FREAK. idk i just think hes neat,,, and i wanted to talk abt Him
